Things seem a little slow here, and I don't remember this topic coming up before so I figured I'd give it a shot.

If you were to put together an all-time Packers team covering every jersey number who would make the cut? Doesn't necessarily have to be the best player to wear the number, maybe just the most memorable. I've filled in a few and left the remainder open for some of you old-timers to fill in before we move to the recent past. List your picks and I'll update the list accordingly.

Who is Henry Jordan? I don't think I've ever heard him mentioned when talking about the Lombardi defenses.

I looked up Jackie Harris to doublecheck what number he was. I guess my memory is off, because I remembered him being a lot better than his stats showed.

Henry Jordan was to DTs what Willie Davis was to DEs in the 1960s.

Part of why he has been forgotten is probably because he died so young. Dropped dead at 42. I believe he was the first of the Lombardi era greats to die. A real shock at the time.

He was one of Lombardi's "steals". Got him from the Browns for a fourth round draft choice, I think the first year Lombardi was in GB. Jordan was a "no body" who then went on to a HOF career.

Bob Skoronski played with Starr, Taylor, Hornung, Gregg, Kramer, Dowler, etc.
Bob Skoronski was the offensive Captain.
That alone explains the type of player that he was.

Most of mine were on ability, except for my specific "memorable" nomination for Frost, and the lifetime award to Fuzzy T over Timmerman, who may have been better for his time. Brown/Eddie Lee Ivory I think is close. In my opinion, Jeter was a much better player than Newsome. and Robinson was much better than Chmura.

Henry Jordan also had a great sense of humor and was a locker room leader. I had the pleasure of attending a sports banquet with Henry as the featured speaker. The guy was fantastic.

I agree - a tough one. Brockington's candle didn't burn very long. I would have to go with Sharper

I think only one, but the feeling at the time was that he was always deserving, but with Gregg a certainty at the other tackle Skoronski was overlooked. I consider Skoronski and Clifton as equals in pass protection, with Skoronski a better run blocker than Clifton, so my pick is Skoronski.


80 - James Lofton/Donald Driver

Lofton is a Hall of Famer, but Driver may have had a better Packers career. For right now, Lofton. When DD retires, he might edge him out.
I can't see Driver being considered a better player than Lofton, regardless of how his career ends.


82 - Lionel Aldridge/Paul Coffman

Not sure. I liked Coffman a lot.
I liked Aldridge, and thought he was under-appreciated on those teams; but I would probably have to pick Coffman based on performance. It is hard to compare a DE and a TE.

#42 is John Brockington. Guy was a truck, a hard-charging back out of OSU, and for his first three years, until he was hurt, I believe, he was a thousand yard rusher at a time when the season was still only 14 games.

He went about 225 at a time when that's how much a big linebacker might be, and he ran - if I remember correctly - with his knees churning high.

If Sharper hadn't played with Minny for those few years I might say him, but no, John Brockington for me.

Also, to support patler's assertion on Henry Jordan - at that time I don't think the league kept track of individual tackles (I tried to look Jordan up). However, he was named first team All-Pro five times and was named to the Pro Bowl four times.

In 1964 he recovered a fumble and took it sixty yards to the house.

And here's how much the game changed: he was 6'-2" and weighed 248 pounds as a defensive tackle.

Today he'd be a linebacker.

John Hadl. Dan Devine, I think, traded the mother ship to the Rams for a 34 year old QB who proceeded to play about a season and a half for the Pack. In his only full season, he threw 6 t.d.'s and 21 int's. Had a passer rating of....53.

I think Devine gave up two firsts and maybe another pick. Has to go down in Packer history as one of if not the worst acquisition ever. Ever.
