The AFC is all over the place, two weeks ago the Bills were #2 seed.

Cardinals over the 49'ers,
Panthers over the Lions,
Eagles over the Giants,
Chargers over the Bears and
Redskins against the Cowboys.

If the 49'ers lose the odds of the Packers gaining the #1 seed goes up by 18%.

Could both wildcards really end up coming from the North? It's starting to look like a serious possibility. Dallas still has to play the Giants twice, Atlanta's schedule isn't bad, two tough road games, four very winnable home games but neither of those teams really impress me.

I think Detroit will tank though.

Bears should make it. They are through the toughest part of their schedule. Lions could be in trouble. They still have 2 games with the Packers and have to play road games at New Orleans and Oakland.

What stood out for me is that the NFCN has the 1st (Lions), 2nd(Queens) 5th(Rejects) and 6th(PACKERS) hardest remaining scheduals

Exactly. And even though the opponent win percentage will fall a bit after all the division games (.500 record for the slate of division games), the league has pushed many division contests to late in the year, the North will still rank as the toughest division.

Didn't their QB break his hand this week as well. That could make things more difficult.

and have Rams yet. They will have tough games against Ravens and Steelers yet. That will show how good they might be.

It's conference record which would be the same if 49ers win and Packers lose.
Next is common opponents, with a minimum of four. That hasn't happened yet.
Next is strength of victory, which I believe is won/loss record of teams that you have beaten.

Strength of Victory is the win/loss record of teams you've played not counting the games in which you have played. Only an academic difference if both GB and SF have the same record.

I heard elsewhere that common opponents would be a crucial step in the tiebreaker process because the 49ers will have four common games with the Pack and they are already 4-0. Lions, Rams, Bucs and the GI ants.

Regarding strenght of schedule, by the end of the season the Packers will have had the far harder road to travel, no team left on our slate is more than 1 game below .500, SF has to still play most of the NFCW (or looserville).

The Packers are one win, one conference win ahead of the 49'ers. If the Packers lose a conference game the 49'ers take over #1 because their strength of victory is higher.

Their schedule is pretty easy, being in the NFCW. Packers would almost certainly have stronger SOV.

Okay, right now, before the Thrusday Night game. The Packers SOV is .411 and the 49'ers SOV is .472.

However, the Strength of Schedule of unplayed games is .587 for the Packers and SOS of unplayed games for the Niners is .402.

Almost every game affects these comparisons. Don't get caught up in it until after the entire weekends games are played.

The 49'ers still have the Ravens on Thanksgiving and the Steelers in December. .667 and .700 respectively.

The Packers have the Lions .667 x 2 and Bears .667 and the Giants .667. But after the Packers beat them their Strength of Victory will drop.

If the 49'ers lose one to either the Steelers or Ravens the Packers would have to lose 2 of the above mentioned games to lose 1st overall.

One good thing about the 49ers nipping at our heels is it will keep the guys focused on the goal of home field advantage and will not let them take any team lightly.
