Thread: Minorities in America

    Minorities in America

Can you believe that a black man and a woman are stealing 98% of the press this election? Wow, to think that the year I was born, 1969, blacks and women were fighting a HUGE uphill battle just to be viewed as equals to white males. This country was founded by immigrants, and it finally looks like it may embrace a minority as it's leader. I am so excited to be a part of this historic time. This election is the most exciting thing I have ever witnessed. A part of me thinks there is no way that a woman or black man could ever win a presidential election, then I study their opponents and wonder how either could fail. Republicans might as well sit at home and watch this election, because, there is nobody running that stands a chance at winning. The fact that Hillary and Barak are winning almost all the primaries is astounding and shows us that America's youth are decidedly sick and tired of being lied to and are actively looking for change. Whether or not either democratic nominee can offer that is yet to be seen, but the voice of America is screaming out and showing it's disgust ... FINALLY. This will be a historic year, and I may not choose my vote until my finger reaches out behind the curtain, but one thing is for certain, I will be choosing change, for good or for bad.

You know, I just wanna say, I was raised strict Baptist, and all my family are out of their minds with conservative lunacy. I used to believe in conservative values, and then I matured. I don't understand how "christian leaders" don't give a shit about the earth. They ridicule global warming, and then preach behind the pulpit that god is proven by the perfect "delicate" design of the universe. Well, if it's so damn perfect and delicate, then why aren't they concerned that we are messing with that perfection and delicacy. I grew up believing that republicans were the god fearing people, the party that cared about family and values, etc. and then I turned 30 and realized that they don't give a rats ass about the earth and all of nature. Hypocrisy. Double standards. I'm voting for Hillary. I just decided that now. I WANT a woman to be our President, if for no other reason, just to piss off the conservative extremists. (Most of my family).

I was born a year after you, and I couldn't care less what color or gender the President is. I think the candidates that we will get this Fall are the worst we've had since Jimmy Carter vs. Gerald Ford. Just bad, and I can't get excited about any candidate on either side. It blows. Nothing wrong with having minority or female candidates, but I'd rather have two good, white male candidates over breaking some kind of ground.

Wow. I can't believe you are down playing the importance of this country choosing a black man or female as our leader. It's not about the issues this year, it's about a nation overcoming hundreds of years of segragation. Remind yourself of how women and blacks have been are still being treated in this country and around the world, and then tell me your "concern" is whether we get a universal health care system. I'm not saying I believe a damn word Hillary or Obama is saying, it matters not, all politicians are full of shit and bought by lobbyists, this election is about America proving to itself that we finally can act PUBLICALLY on our "belief" that all are created equal, bar none. Don't down play this historic time, it may change us as a nation in a positive way more than you can imagine, and I believe if one of the two become president, it will.

I just want good candidates; not too excited about this group. I fall more to Harv's view here. It'd be cool to have a female or minority president. But I'd want them to be very qualified. This year's group is the worst I can remember. Harv must be older than me; I hardly remember Carter or Ford
LIFE IS ABOUT CHAMPIONSHIPS; I JUST REALIZED THIS. The MILWAUKEE BUCKS have won the same number of championships over the past 50 years as the Green Bay Packers. Ten years from now, who will have more championships, and who will be the fart in the wind ?

As long as we can finally take the plunger to the clogged toilet in the WH and start cleaning up this mess....maybe we can get a bunch of "turds" in Congress at the same time.

How on earth is Hillary not qualified. She was the first lady for eight years, and has been a senator ever since. She's probably more qualified than any nominee in America's history.

So this election is about proving to ourselves that we are capable of changing and voting for a minority?

At this point, when you vote for a candidate you are voting for the person, not their stance on the issues. Pressure within each party respectively has made about every candidate a clone of each other on the issues (nothing wrong with that) so it's not like when you are voting for Clinton or Obama you are voting for two different sets of ideals.

I think Barako is a better choice than Jesse Jackson. Hillary will always put the fear of god into me.

Wow, didn't wanna go head to head with you, Zool, I like to stay in good with commishes, but, I have spent more hours of my life reading and debating these issues than you can imagine. Interact with people much? Way too much actually. Makes you realize how narrowminded people are to their own situations. Wish I interacted less.

I understand a lot of the points you are making, but your last entry has me wondering if you like to frustrate yourself on purpose? I will use one of my famous quotes in this situation, "talking politics with people is like masturbating with a cheese grater, slightly amusing, but mostly painful."

OMG, you made my point for me. You admit that at this stage of the game, all nominees are puppets and don't give a shit about issues. That's a given, which is why this election becomes about America being able to free itself from its steriotype of "white males dominating EVERYTHING". If you guys can't see the importance of that, you aren't being very openminded. I can see by the few reactions I am getting here that most here are just like most people I deal with every day. You are white males in America and love it. Anyone who wants to impede you're comfort zone is either "crazy" or "drunk". Whatever. Just look in the mirror and know that you're opinions are based on truth and not bias.
