    Happy Veterans Day

    FREEDOM IS NOT FREE
    Written by: Cadet Major Kelly

I watched the flag pass by one day.
    It fluttered in the breeze.
    A young Marine saluted it,
And then He stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert.
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
    Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
    How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
    How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
    No, freedom is not free.

I heard the sound of taps one night,
    When everything was still.
I listened to the bugler play
    And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times
    That taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
    Of fathers, sons and husbands
    With interrupted lives.

    I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
    Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
    No freedom is not free.

    A SPECIAL THANK YOU
    Written by: Unknown

Life without that of one who serves their country proud, freely, and valantly would be a life void of love, dreams, freedom, a life void of the many treasures so many of us call life. Children, mates, cars, boats, planes, photos, books, stories, smiles, all a part of life. To those of you wear the uniform of your country with pride today, and for those of you who wore the uniform in days past, these few words go out to you, and hope they bring life in its fullness unto you and yours. You gave of yourself, to protect and keep that life which you had learned and begun to love. You gave of your family, you gave of your life, some came home, some never did, some live in our memories, some in our tears, taken in life both young and old, no score card to determine who went and who returned. So accept these simple words of thanks. THANK YOU...

Good thread 7. I'm glad I don't have to head out into the shit and get shot at. Its very much appreciated by me and mine what the people in the service do.

Actually, a guy I grew up has been in Iraq twice and may go to Afghanistan has told me the airport scenes are common here and abroad!

    Thanks Indeed!

On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress commissioned Samuel Nicholas to raise two Battalions of Marines. That very day, Nicholas set up shop in Tun Tavern. He appointed Robert Mullan, then the proprietor of the tavern, to the job of chief Marine Recruiter -- serving, of course, from his place of business at Tun Tavern. Prospective recruits flocked to the tavern, lured by (1) cold beer and (2) the opportunity to serve in the new Corps of Marines. So, the U.S. Marine Corps was born in Tun Tavern on November 10, 1775. Today, the Corps celebrates its 233rd Birthday. Each year, the Commandant of the Marine Corps distributes a birthday message for all Marines. The Commandants message for this year is attached. Please take a moment to read it and to honor the Marines who have proudly served our Country.

    Thank you, Veterans.

432rd from GB arrived in the US yesterday and they could be back home as early as this weekend. It's kind of a big homecoming for them. I hope to read more stories about soldiers coming home safely.

Think they will do some sort of special salute to them at the game Sunday?

I'll be at the game, so I'll let you know!

I know one thing, every time the National Anthem ends and the F-18's do the fly over, I get teary eyed. This week will have even more of a meaning.

Great story about a vet who served his country in WWII. Horrible that the govt. wanted them to shut up about it and didn't give them full benefits until much, much later on (Not starting political discussion here.)

    God Bless our troops.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

God and the Soldier, we adore,
In time of danger, not before.
The danger passed and all things righted,
God is forgotten and the Soldier slighted.

I have (especially if he's cute...) and I've been out with my parents and had someone anonymously pay for our dinner because my dad came in wearing his WWII Veteran hat. If it was one of you guys, thanks!

    That is a great idea.
After lunch the players lounged about the hotel patio watching the surf fling white plumes high against the darkening sky. Clouds were piling up in the west… Vince Lombardi frowned.
