the show has "gone dead" 20 times during its long run.
I don't think it has ever been all that great, half the skits fall flat. That's just the nature of the beast. People get attached to certain actors, then they think it sucks when their fave leaves. But really, the overall quality stays about the same.
Mad TV has always been funnier than SNL, IMHO.
