This is my most anticipated movie in awhile. Any see an early showing or plan on going to see it today?

A review I read said it is based on some sort of hallowed underground comic book/novella revered by all of geekdom. The plot was described as being rather beyond description as many of the story's elements are non-linear.
And apparently the galactic squid was written out of the ending, risking the eternal ire of "Watchmen" purists.
You'll have to let me know if Dr. Manhattan is the right shade of blue.

It's a really good story. It's one of the few comics I've actually read.
I am a fan of Frank Miller, but I am just not real into this one

??? Are you that fucking judgemental over someone reading a comic? What do you do with your life that you can judge me?Originally Posted by sheepshead
Also, note the hypocrisy in making a statement like that towards me, but not Nutz, after Nutz admitted to being a comic fan as well.
Just sums it up for me man. Carry on.Originally Posted by Partial

Anyway, instead of thread crapping (please go back to JSO, everyone here hates you), let's discuss the topic at hand, shall we?
I've heard that its a pretty gruesome and intense movie. Definitely very true to the comic, so I don't recommend taking your kids thinking its going to be Spiderman.
So was mighty mouse a comic or a cartoon?Originally Posted by sheepshead
Porn for nerds. I won't say it sucks until I see it, though that's what I'm hearing, but then again, I probably won't see it for a couple years because it looks pretty mundane, except for that owl guy who looks like a queer raver gone wild at a comic book convention. That outfit is the main reason I don't want to see the movie to be honest.

Way back in the day I read Sergeant Rock and Weird War comics..Turok son of Stone..before I discovered Heinlein and Bradbury.
I have never known anyone personally that reads comic books. If you enjoy doing so that's fine. Actually it helps me when I read your "posts".

I think he was commenting on the self-insinuation that you looked at comics without reading them... and that perhaps... you know... you made love to them...Originally Posted by Partial

Even as a kid? It really cant even be classified as reading.Originally Posted by sheepshead
Well, I'm not sure how I feel about the movie. I've let it settle in for about 18 hours now, and I'm still not sure what I think.
It was fairly true to the comic outside of a few missing back stories. They left out a lot of the philosophical content, and I think they could have done a better job of Rorschach's back story, especially pertaining to his unwillingness to compromise.
They changed the ending, and I actually like the new facet of the story more, but I did not care for the execution of it.
It was the best movie since the Dark Knight by far, and while it was less entertaining, it was far more thought provoking.
It was excessively gruesome. It kind of reminded me of Saw in that regard, and I'm fairly squeamish about that sort of thing.
Overall, I give it an 8/10. I'll probably go see it again next week during spring break.
What? Watchmen is a GN that a lot of book clubs, etc read. This is a big story. Just because the novel has pictures, doesn't mean it isn't a quality story.Originally Posted by Freak Out
As a matter of fact, one could make a strong argument that some of the best stories ever written were related to comics. Spiderman and Batman for example, are both deep, complex stories.
Sheepshead, when is the last time you sat down and read a book cover to cover? I would be curious to know, because you sure are quick to throw people who actually do read something (albeit a slightly different medium under the bus). People reading comics are at the very least reading something, which is more than I can say for most people.

I loved Tipping Point. Blink was great too, though I think Tipping Point has better applicability.
