Please forgive the short blast of country.

"You never even call me by my name" by David Allen Cole

You don't have to call me Waylon Jennings
And you don't have to call me Charlie Pride
And you don't have to call me Merle Haggard, anymore
Even though you're on my fightin side

And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
I never minded standin in the rain
You don't have to call me "darlin", darlin
You never even call me by my name.

    * My favorite part, this makes it a perfect country song*

Well I was drunk the day my mama got outta prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station with my pickup... truck
She got runned over by a damned old train

You don't have to call me Waylon Jennings
You don't have to call me Charlie Pride
And you don't have to call me Merle Haggard anymore
Even though you're on my fighting side

And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
I never minded standin in the rain
You don't have to call me "darlin" darlin
But you never even call me by my name
I wonder why you don't call me
You never even call me by my name

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.

    My stupid mouth
    has got me in trouble
    I said too much again
to a date over dinner yesterday
and i could see she was offended
    she said, "Wll anyway..."
just dying for a subject change

Oh, another social casualty score one more for me
    how could I forget?
    Mama said "think before speaking"
No filter in my head]Oh, what's a boy to do
I guess he better find one soon

We bit our lips. She looked out the window
Rolling tiny balls of napkin paper
I played a quick game of chess with the
    salt and pepper shaker
    And I could see clearly
    an indelible line was drawn
between what was good, what just
slipped out and what went wrong

Oh, the way she feels about me has changed
    Thanks for playing, try again.

    How could I forget?
    Mama said "think before speaking
    no filter in my head
Oh what's a boy to do
I guess he better find one
I'm never speaking up again. It only hurts me
I'd rather be a mystery than she desert me

Oh, I'm never speaking up again
    Starting now

    One more thing.
    Why is it my ault?
So maybe I try too hard
but it's becaues of all this desire
I just wanna be liked, I just wanna be funny
Looks like the joke's on me
    so call me captain backfire

I'm never speaking up again. It only hurts me
I'd rather be a mystery than she desert me

Oh, I'm never speading up again
    Starting now

John Mayer "My Stupid Mouth" cause who hasn't had a foot in the mouth before. I can so relate.

And if you listen to "Your body is a wonderland" you can hear him chant "I'm never speaking up again" behind the last chorus.

okay, i've got another suggestion for the lyric thread. not only put the title and artist. but also say a little blurb about why these lyrics are memorable to you. ie. this was our song, this was the first song i......, this song helped me thru......, this song calms me down, this song fires me up. and so on. just a thought, i don't mean to put rules on Jack's thread, but i think i might help with what he is trying to accomplish.

If I Had A Million Dollars
    Barenaked Ladies - Gordon

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you a house
i would buy you a house

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
i'd buy you furniture for your house
maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
    well i'd buy you a k-car
    a nice reliant automobile
and if i had a million dollars
    i'd buy your love

if i had a million dollars
i'd build a tree fort in our yard
if i had a million dollars
you could help wouldn't be that hard
if i had a million dollars
maybe we could put a little tiny fridge in there somewhere

and we could just go up there and hang out
like open the fridge and stuff
and there'd be foods laid out for us
with little pre-wrapped sausages and things
    mmmm
they have pre-wrapped sausages, but they don't have pre-wrapped bacon
well can you blame 'em? uh, yeah!

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you a fur coat
but not a real fur coat that's cruel

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy an exotic pet
like a llama or an emu

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you john merrick's remains
eww, all them crazy elephant bones

if i had a million dollars
    i'd buy your love

if i had a million dollars
we wouldn't have to walk to the store
if i had a million dollars
we'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
if i had a million dollars
we wouldn't have to eat kraft dinner
but we would eat kraft dinner
of course we would, we'd just eat more
and buy really expensive ketchups with it
that's right all the fanciest ketch- dijon ketchup!
    mmm! mmm!

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well, i'd buy you a green dress
but not a real green dress that's cruel

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you some art
    a picasso or a garfunkel

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you a monkey
haven't you always wanted a monkey?

if i had a million dollars
    i'd buy your love

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
    if i had a million do-o-o-ollars
    i'd be rich.

That's just 'cause I want a million dollars.

That there's a funny song. I still love "The Apartment". Even though I'm a "metalhead", I do like BNL and think they're one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Very charismatic and smart.

ps. Favorite live band? Better Than Ezra (also my favorite band--I think I'll start a new thread about that one)...

You'll think I'm a complete dork, but I saw Trans Siberian Orchestra this year and they were amazing. Live, they are every bit as precise as their studio recordings and have some serious on-stage energy.

No, I don't think you're a dork. Actually, TSO was a side-project from another great rock band, Savatage. Lots of rock musicians are tied to that project--Johnny Lee Middleton (Savatage), Al Pitrelli (Megadeth, Savatage), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Chris Caffery (Savatage), Paul O'Neill (Savatage, Aerosmith), Jon Olivia (Savatage), just to name a few.

Actually, I think TSO stemmed from Savatage's "Dead Winter Dead" album that came out in 1995 and featured their hit "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)". Savatage has always been a "rock opera" band, so the fact that they have ties to TSO is no big surprise. If you dig the rock part of TSO, you should check out Savatage.

Whatever happened to Ezra? Are they still playing local pubs down in New Orleans?

I won't judge you zig, but be carefull as Jack will. next thing, he'll start telling you that you like them because of the color of your HAIR.

My next TSO-related purchase will likely be the disc of Beethoven remakes. My friend and I decided that Beethoven would either love it or roll in his grave. No middle ground there.

Who was the singer they were using that died? Daryl something? He did one song on Christmas Eve and Other Stories that still never fails to make me cry after two years. That was my only problem with the concert is the guy they brought in to sing that song had the wrong voice for it.

Actually, they're quite active. They released an amazing album last year called "Before the Robots", tour endlessly, and headlined the "Blubber Run" festivities in downtown Minneapolis last September. As their roots are in Nawlins, they do quite a bit of fundraising for victims of Katrina.

p.s. And they co-headlined with Collective Soul and played at a new venue called The Myth in Maplewood last December.

Think i'm in love - Spiritualized

Sun so bright that I’m nearly blind
Cool cos I’m wired and I’m out of my mind
Warms the dope running down my spine
But I don’t care ’bout you and I’ve got nothing to do
Free as the warmth in the air that I breathe
    Even freer than dmt
Feel the warmth of the sun in me
But I don’t care ’bout you and I’ve got nothing to do
Love in the middle of the afternoon
Just me, my spike in my arm and my spoon
Feel the warmth of the sun in the room
But I don’t care ’bout you
    And I’ve got nothin’

    I think I’m in love
    Probably just hungry
    I think I’m your friend
    Probably just lonely
I think you got me in a spin now
    Probably just turning
I think I’m a fool for you babe
    Probably just yearning
I think I can rock and rool
    Probably just twisting
I think I wanna tell the world
    Probably ain’t listening
    Come on

    I think I can fly
    Probably just falling
I think I’m the life and soul
    Probably just snorting
I think I can hit the mark
    Probably just aiming
I think my name is on your lips
    Probably complaining
I think I have caught it bad
    Probably contagious
    I think I’m a winner baby
    Probably las vegas
    Come on

    I think I’m alive
    Probably just breathing
I think you stole my heart now baby
    Probably just thieving
    I think I’m on fire
    Probably just smoking
I think that you’re my dream girl
    Probably just dreaming
I think I’m the best babe
    Probably like all the rest
I think that I could be your man
    Probably just think you can
    Come on

    I think I’m in love

Actually, it was a joke. I was talking about the band they were named after. They had a different name, but there was some band named "Ezra" in New Orleans that got more pub, so they renamed their band "Better Than Ezra."

Can we forget about the things I said
    When I was drunk
I didn't mean to call you that
I can't remember what was said or what you threw at me
Please tell me, please tell me Why
My car is in the front yard,
And I'm Sleeping with my clothes on
Came in through the window last night
    And you're gone
    Gone
It's no suprise to me I am my own worst enemy
'Cause every now and then I kick the living shit out of me
The smoke alarm is going off,
And there's a cigarette Still burning,
Please tell me why my car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on
Came in through the window last night and you're gone
    Gone
Please tell me why my car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on

    Bob Schneider--"Love Is Everywhere"

Soon Li was a pilot in the nationally known
Amazing ladies of the outer ozone
She didn't have no kids she didn't have no time
She was a woman of her word, she was a fighter of crime
She looked good in a hat, she had a natural way
With tools and old cars, she went to UCLA

And everybody said she was as crazy as a loon
When she was a girl she'd spend every afternoon
Sitting in her backyard pretending to be
A fighter ace in the Japanese military
She liked to make up her mind, she kept her feet in the air
She wore her heart on her sleeve, cause she'd found it there

And it was all well and good until she met this young man
A young pilot named Steve with a beautiful tan
He spoke English and French and he swam like a swan
He had a mouth full of teeth, and more style than Cezanne
He could talk to the bees, he could breathe in the air
He wore his heart on his sleeve, cause he'd found it there

And they'd sit in the trees and they'd talk thru the night
While the blind moon swam in the pale starry light
And they talked and they crowed and they told what they knew
It was better than beer, it was all strange and knew
There was grass all around, there was black up above
It was more than hello, it was something like love

And I don't know why life, it seems to be
So hard for dreamers like you and me
When love is, love is, love is everywhere .
