Well, The Doors were historically significant because they had talent. Same with The Beatles. Neither had very interesting names, if you ask me.

Find a name that has signficance to the type of music you want to play, the image the band wants to portray, and perhaps something that has sentimentality to the band. It's got to be a name that rolls off the tongue and is marketable. "Smelly Sneakers" is cute, but it sounds like a college alt-rock band to me. Now, "Sneaker Pimps", a band from England, had a cool name. I'd suggest you take the sneakers idea and run with it, only try to throw in more detail.

The band I manage is named Perfect Enemy (we used to be Sound And Fury, but lost the copyright). Voltaire once said "Perfect is the enemy of good." It has significance because of the market we play in and the content of our music. It's also in the lyrics of one of our favorite bands, A Perfect Circle.

Just some thoughts.
