Playoff Picture Week 2 (15 Weeks to Go)

Thank you Spock for the compulsive need for accuracy; or thank you beauty queen for always comparing others flaws.

    WEEK 2
    NFC

    First Round Bye
    1) Redskins (5) (Greater Strength of Victory than Lions)
    2) Lions (8) (higher combined conference points ranking than Packers)

    Division Winners
    3) Saints (12) (Greater Strength of Victory than 49'ers and Falcons)
    4) 49'ers (3) (Better division winning % than Cardinals)

    Wild Cards
    5) Packers (6) (Better winning % than Cowboys)
    6) Cowboys (9) (Greater Strength of Schedule than the Bears)

    The Rest in Order:
    7) Bears (2) (Head to Head win over Falcons)
    8) Falcons (15) (Greater Strength of Victory than Eagles)
    9) Eagles (1) (Higher combined points ranking than Cardinals)
    10) Cardinals (7) (Better conf combined pts ranking than Buccaneers)
    11) Buccaneers (Better conf combined pts ranking than Giants)
    12) Giants (13) (Better winning % than Panthers)
    13) Panthers (Greater Strength of Schedule than vikings)
    14) vikings (10) (better conf combined pts ranking than Seahawks)
    15) Seahawks (14) (better conf combined pts ranking than Rams)
    16) Rams (16)

    Notes:

-The number in parentheses indicates last week's playoff position.
-The Panthers and Buccaneers were a coin toss decision between 4th and 11th last week. No last week ranking appears.
-The Packers are 2-0 in conference games and Lions 1-0 but conference winning percentage is the same.
-The Packers have more conference net points than Lions but that it not a tiebreaker for teams within a division.
-Combined Points Ranking is adding the points scored ranking to the points allowed ranking.
-Abbreviations SOV and SOS may be used for Strength of Victory and Strength of Schedule.

    AFC

    First Round Bye
    1) Patriots (3) (better division winning %than Jets; better SOV than Texans)
    2) Texans (2) (better winning % than Raiders)

    Division Winners
    3) Raiders (4) (greater Strength of Schedule than Ravens)
    4) Ravens (1) (better conference combined point ranking than Bengals)

    14) Dolphins (13) (better conference combined points ranking than Chiefs)
    15) Chiefs (16) (greater strength of schedule than Colts)
    16) Colts (14)

    My favorite thread. Stupid Chiefs.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Wow, the Packers are in decline.

Its tough when an unbeaten season gets you a wild card berth.

You are right, I read too quickly, thought I saw them dropping from 5 to 6.

So once again the packers have to win out to be in control of their own destiny, and they might still just get a wild card. Man the NFC is tough this year.

Related: There is currently a three-way tie for Andrew Luck between Minnesota, Seattle, and St. Louis.

They are the only 0-2 teams whose losses have come to two 1-1 teams, which gives them a strength of schedule of .500. If the season ended today, the #1 overall pick would be decided by a series of coinflips, or some other random tiebreaker that can decide between three teams.

Mad, this thread should go on the front page. Some blog is going to pick up this brilliance, kill us for it and we'll all be famous and mocked (maybe from the 3rd all the way to the 1st).

But with the other obsessives checking the standings, traffic will jump 25% minimum.

The only interesting draft numbers to track is "who gets Andrew Luck this week" since the #1 overall pick this April is a prize of unprecedented value: you get one of the best QB prospects in recent memory at a relative bargain (Cam Newton's rookie deal was like $22m over four years, Luck will be paid something similar.)

At least, I personally plan on keeping track of who is in the #1 spot from week to week. Who's picking 2nd, or 5th is kind of irrelevant. Those teams don't get Luck.

Great suggestion. Only took you 5 years to come up with a good idea. That actually aint bad around this place.

OK So I promoted it to an article. Now I need someone besides me to look at the homepage and tell me what it looks like. Maybe even leave a comment to mess with it. Maybe Ziggy will make a cool graphic to go with a weekly feature.

PBMax, will you be that someone? Ill give you some rep points if your into that kinda stuff.

Not too worried about rep points. But what exactly do you need? Just to leave a comment on the article itself rather than the thread?

Comment on article done. Looks fine and worked like you would expect it to.

Now we need Fritz to post this nonsense on some Lions message boards and get their blood riled up.

Thank you all for the compliments and a front page spot. It takes time to do this so I am happy sharing it is appreciated.
I do this because no website does it and the old saying "If you want it done right, do it yourself."

The worst is when the "minimum 4 common games" tiebreaker kicks in. I am not experienced enough to incorporate that into my spreadsheets so I have to compare those manually.

Please feel free to double check my work as I want accuracy. Occaisionally when I am up late after Monday Night Football I might miss something.
