    Guion loses probable cause hearing

For now anyway, the cops get to keep his new truck and the $190,000 cash they found. Part of the Judge's rationale:

    http://www.packersnews.com/story/spo...ring/23771439/

That Guion was traveling in known drug area that one officer described as a "drug corridor" that has yielded more than 300 narcotics cases in the last 20 months, and that the large amount of cash and pot found in the same backpack were strong evidence of a possible drug deal.

The judge said he didn't find credible Guion's explanation that he was in that area because he was just "driving through town" on his way to a hotel.
Guion's lawyer is quoted as saying from his experience with similar cases he still hopes for a plea deal and the return of Guion's property.

some alternative rationale: Guinan is a stupid football player and it's his money. There's no good reason to keep the cash.

Demo says Guion lost the battle but is close to negotiating a friendly surrender in the war.

A source with knowledge of the legal situation said the criminal matter is close to being resolved and will include the return of his property.

I see from the article that he was able to prove the origin of the money, i.e. Packer paychecks, that bodes really well for him. Even if they are hypothesizing that he was on his way to make a buy, he hadn't yet.

McCarthy with a quote that he'd like to have him back - how likely is that? Not to start the season at least, have to think he'll end up with some kind of a suspension, this was pretty public.

I think it's pretty likely he signs for a low contract for one year. He screwed himself out of a 3-4 year deal.

Evidently he agrees to probation in exchange for deferred prosecution:

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12...tion-agreement

He will also have to file a civil suit to recover his pistol and his cash. The weed is probably off the table...

Amerika incarcerates more people per capita than any country in the world - yet Amerikans think they're "free"??

Any excuse will do... drugs, "safety", "terrorism", driving over a white line, thought crime, the boogieman... just another example of how disgusting this sickass country has become.

On this we agree. The civil forfeiture laws are plain nutty.

Worse than nutty - they're unconstitutional.

I try to avoid reading stories like Guions... they make me sick to my stomach to remind me that I live in a country whose government is completely lawless.

I used to think like this until I got arrested in Mexico three times in one day for "being there".

Then I realized we had some rights and 'this fucking place is just insane'... then I married a mexican girl (from Georgia) and made German-Mexican babies.

Can't say you're completely wrong -- and it's hard to buy anything from the government -- but it's a lot worse just about everywhere else.

I sense a story in here somewhere...
No longer the member of any fan clubs. I'm tired of jinxing players out of the league and into obscurity.

Mexico doesn't have the rule of law that controls and constrains their government - the point in cases like Guions, forefeiture, DHS, EPA, DEA, et al, is that we are becoming like those other countries. They have lawless governments, and we now have lawless government. The only difference between them and us is that we are coming down from on-high, and they've been wallowing low for decades if not centuries.

My wife is Filipino - go to the Philippines and go into any mall. They look just like malls here - except for 2 things, 1) the women are much hotter ; and 2) there are paramilitary troops walking around sporting automatic rifles.

Last time I was there I accidentally left a carry-on bag on a bus - it had my passport in it!!! I played holy hell trying to get it back. I was literally whisked into a dank, 1 lightbulb room, with a sparse table and 1 chair. Then straight out of hollywood, a fat cop who was wearing his uniform pants, boots, and a white T-shirt came in and starting grilling me like I was a captured CIA agent, lol...

Somewhere along the line I mentioned my wife's name, and the guy says "... is she Lucien's daughter"?? I said yes... he laughs, slaps me on the back, and tells me they are good friends going back to High School!! Congratulates me on our marriage, gives me my passport back, and gives us an escort to the port where we our ferry was getting ready to depart - made it with about 10 minutes to spare, or we couldn't have gotten off the island til the next day, and I would have missed my flight home.

I've been to plenty of third world countries - the poverty is sad and depressing; but like all countries there are socioeconomic tiers - some of the wealthiest people in the world live in Mexico, China, etc... it's good to be "connected", but to be connected, one must be corrupt.

It's the name of the game - have to step on the "little people" to get that house on the hill.

The moral of the story for Guion would be - stay the hell out of Florida!! I'd add Georgia to that list too... based on personal experience

Guion was down in Cubano territory. If he were up in the panhandle, he'd have been left alone.
