Muhammad 'Cassius Clay' Ali was a great sports personality and in my lifetime he was unique. As a young teen boxing was a part of my life. I first put on the gloves at the age of eight years and my early boxing hero's were guys like Sugar Ray Robinson, Willie Pep and Floys Patterson. A part of going to the movies on Saturdays was Re-Runs of the biggest fights. I enjoyed all the Patterson fights until he ran into Sonny Liston and was demolished by him in the ring. Sonny Liston appeared too formidable to be dethroned as the Heavy Weight Champ.

Then along came A young brash man named Cassius Clay who intrigued me and my friends in the neighborhood. He was so confident that he could outmatch any opponent. When he took it to Sonny Liston in the famous "Rabbit Punch' Heavy Weight Championship fight I was hooked on this awesome boxer.

We saw a boxer like no other of our time. His return to the ring after being punished for not wanting to enlist to serve for the USA was remarkable. He looked as great as ever. What boxing fan will ever forget 'the Thrilla From Manila' and Ali's challenge from "Smokin Joe' Frazier and some of the greatest boxing ever.

The way Ali used the ropes for support in his 'Rope A Dope' style of winning the 'Rumble in the Jungle' (1974) with the then undefeated world heavyweight champion George Foreman.
