The situation is a little unclear right now. Obviously the return of a healthy Jordy would help a lot. Both Janis and Davis have the potential to provide an occasional deep threat if they can get on the field. Cook has the ability to stretch the seams of a defense in a way that Richard Rodgers could not. The potential is there for a better situation than last year.

If he can become a 20-30 receptions guy capable of distracting the defense deep, while continuing to perform on STs like he did last year, he will be around as long as Jarrett Bush.
I know you are just reflecting comments, so I'm just reacting to what the coach said. What took them so long to figure this out? Some people in school do all their homework assignments really well, but choke on tests because of pressure. Janis seems to not be great at process and better at product, which is part of the word production, which is what this receiving corp. needs. The threat of a vertical, take the top off, passing game would be welcome after last year's passing game fizzled midway to the end of the regular season, with few exceptions.

They have pass rush specialists who get a limited number of snaps and are just going like hell using their given abilities to get to the QB. They are not asked to stop the run, to set the edge, or to do any of the dirty work. They are paid dearly to go like hell and knock the QB off his spot, or better yet off his feet. Are they making a mistake to not get what they can out of Janis' current skill set? If he got 5-10 snaps a gvename and was able to take the top off the defense, that could even open up the middle of the field if they had to commit an extra safety over the top. Just the threat of what he could do might open things up.

I don't think many NFL rosters have a spot for someone who is a specialist who will only play 5-10 snaps a game. If the starter gets hurt you have to put in the player who will be a liability the rest of the game.

Janis has the advantage that his special teams play last year was excellent. So that extends his usefulness to at least 20 plays a game.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

Janis' two main talents in games are getting interference called and competing for the ball in a crowd. That's hard to build an offense around.

He did demonstrate the ability to take short passes a long way in last year's preseason, something I am surprised they did not continue to use. So from that standpoint, they are putting a square peg in a round hole.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

A LOT of things about him they didn't use hahahaha.

I agree with what was said about defenses adjusting to his presence on the field alone. This reminds me of General Patton in WWII - just the enemy's regard for the threat of his being used arguably had a lot to do with the D-Day invasion being successful. The leadership inexplicably didn't make much use of Patton for a long while either, but he eventually became a superstar.

The hand injury is unfortunate. While he's not available for contact, they ought to have him running routes - over and over and over - with somebody critiquing every one of them.

Zook sees Perillo in the mold of Kuhn in that he can line up in a lot of places on special teams.

WELL PERILLO IS SET FOR A 10 YEAR CAREER THEN IF HE CAN BLOCK IN THE BACKFIELD AND RUN A FULLBACK DIVE

Zook on Jared Abbrederis on special teams: Heck of a returner. Great instincts & can catch the football.

Green Bay Packers ‏@packers 45m45 minutes ago
Zook on Jeff Janis' injury: Feel bad for Jeff...He's got a great attitude. He'll get back as fast as he can & pick up where he left off.
Unless Abby gets hurt he is assured a roster spot.

Crosby goes 4 of 6 on field goals. Hits from 33, 37, 43, 46. Wide right from 40, wide left from 50. Both misses with Masthay holding.

Would Crosby vote Masthay off the island? M3 likes him, but I don't think he trusts him that much.

Randall getting checked by the medical staff and just went inside the Don Hutson center.

Michael Cohen ‏@Michael_Cohen13 20m20 minutes ago
Damarious Randall made a nice INT in 1-on-1 drill against Randall Cobb. But Randall fell hard on his face/head and is slow to get up.

Damarious Randall has returned to practice.

Rodgers in red zone. Five touchdowns in six attempts

Wes Hodkiewicz ‏@WesHod 2m2 minutes ago
The scout team ends with Jamel Johnson pulling touchdown away from Shields. Rodgers was on #PackersCamp

SHOULD JUST ROLL THE SCRUBS OUT THERE EACH WEEK.

Geronimo Allison with great TD catch on perfect back-shoulder throw from Hundley in red zone. Dorleant in coverage. Fist pump by Allison.

I wonder what's going on with Nelson's knees. Will he ever be the bee's knees again?

Crazy. Rodgers scrambles left, throws back right to back of end zone, and RB Brandon Burks makes leaping TD grab. Only at #PackersCamp

Tom Silverstein ‏@TomSilverstein 16m16 minutes ago
Rodgers lofts another one, this time rolling to left, over the D on other side. Brandon Burks with a nice leaping catch behind Gunter for TD

THE OCTOPUS HAS BEEN STRUGGLING A BIT. I WONDER IF SOMEONE POKED HIM IN HIS EYE.

Packer Report ‏@PackerReport 19m19 minutes ago
Brandon Burks caught a boatload of passes at Troy. Best play of camp on leaping grab on back of end zone vs. Gunter

Wes Hodkiewicz ‏@WesHod 19m19 minutes ago
Now Mitch Henry makes a nice contested catch from Rodgers

Well, you have to wonder. He's on the wrong side of 30 coming off an ACL injury. I don't think we can expect many 1400 yard seasons from him.
The young WRs need to step up.

Of course the knee that is bothering him now isn't the one he hurt last summer.

At best he'll be the cat's pajamas. I predict 3 or 4 more years in the league where he is not a top #1 reciever.

    It is written.

According to Packer Report, Jordy Nelson passed his physical and is on the NFL transaction report.

Does that mean he's been traded?

I can't think of any other reason he would be on the report.

Yup, Jordy is off the PUP list.

Its time for Bob to retire. Or at least his editor. This has to be the tenth year in a row he has written this column.

Is there an official game thread for the GB vs Oakland game tonight . A thread where observations may be posted before, during , and after this 2nd preseason game .

I hope that no one gets any medical problems and it will be a safe contest. Furthermore , I most want to see all the offensive and defensive linemen play well .

If your not the lead dog , then the view never changes !
