Thread: Is Rodgers Clavicle Getting The Best Care?

Is Rodgers Clavicle Getting The Best Care?

The Association for Vascular Access does not think so.

From his post of post surgery recovery, they have done a mini film breakdown.

    Here is the annotated photo:

First, this PIV has been placed in Aaron’s hand and terminates at his wrist. When he bends his wrist he risks pistoning his catheter which could lead to phlebitis, dislodgment, embolism, infiltration and infection.

PIVs can be placed in the hand, but the tip location is important. And with a patient as young and healthy as Aaron, his probably should have been placed in the arm.

Second, the hair where his PIV was inserted should have been removed prior to being placed. Third, there is blood visible in the cannula, which needs to be flushed. It is also secured with tape. There are better options for securing PIVs. PIVs get dislodged at an alarming rate.

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

PB - this is just a wee bit over the top, no?

My youngest has been hospitalized three times. And from our experience in NICU, PICU etc., this looks like shoddy work.

    Hope all is better.

I have heard that you need to be pretty skilled to successfully do this with the young, the elderly and chronically ill patients. A nurse in the family always insisted on a nurse from the chemotherapy ward when they needed to put in a line.

You don't think they are gunning for attention by leveraging an NFL QB do you?

Thanks PB. Talk to me when she’s 20 Thatll be in 17 1/2 years.

Anytime you breach the skin you’re opening the route for infection. You really haven’t lived until you’ve got a line in your one-year-old’s jugular vein and femoral artery simultaneously.

That alone is scary but from a detail Standpoint why not shave where they put the tape? That’s just basic stuff.

Seriously, why not put the line in the antecubital space?

It is. So more personal stories!

I am, lets say not as young as Rodgers. And I have had an IV in my hand before. It has to be something that has changed in my lifetime when they went through their processes and realized that one source of the infections they are always trying to combat was poor placement of an IV line.

I know how you feel. Our guy had to spend the first 6 weeks of his life in the NICU. He was 2lbs 12oz at birth. All sorts of tubes and lines to keep him alive.

Best of luck. Our guy is now 10 and doing great. No lingering effects. He is one of the tallest in his grade and he didn't make the height and weight chart until his 3rd birthday when he finally hit 5%.

We thought we had it bad until the brought a new baby into the NICU. The kid was in rough shape but the mom had a stoke during/before child birth. Mom was at UW Hospital in Madison. The kid was in Waukesha. The dad would get up and go to see his son, go to work, drive to Madison to be with his wife, drive back to Waukesha to see his son and then go home at midnight.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

Just wait until his nurse trips on the line. Then ARod will be in real pain.

I think the AVA is overthinking this one. The low res image doesn't allow them to say with certainty where the IV needle ends. If I had to guess I would say it ends where the tape ends, which is well above the wrist. Whoever does the IV is probably going to do what they are most familiar and comfortable with, and in the case of hospital nurses that usually means starting distally so that you have other options if you need them (if you start in the forearm or elbow joint and need to redo it then you have fewer options). Hand is also preferred to upper forearm because it's less susceptible to movement (despite what the AVA thinks it can read about the needle being too close to the wrist). Much ado about nothing, methinks.

Uh oh, now we are getting into deep analysis. Next I'm sure will come reports regarding the gauge of the needle. "18? WTF kind of hospital was this? We only use 22 ga in a vein of Rodger's circumference!"

When Rodgers returns he can kneel during the anthem to protest the AMA.

Sometimes a picture is not worth 5 words, let alone thousands.

I just conferred with several highly-skilled, internationally recognized surgical and orthopedic trauma specialists and they all agree that they don't give a fuck.

The IV will already be out and she'll take two steps before illegally contacting him.

That's what the guy who did Sherrod's leg said.
