Yeah, I don't know what to make of Staley. His 3 years with Fangio were with 2 different teams. 2017-18 with the Bears, 2019 with the Broncos. His 1 year as DC had the #1 defense. His defenses as HC weren't very good. Has never coached with LaFleur, although there is some crossover. Both coached with Barry and Evero. Not high on my list.Originally Posted by RashanGary

Green Bays defense would be awesome with an in your prime Aaron Donald. If they hire Staley it will be more of the same shit with a slight change in smell.
In his defense, the year after he left the Rams, they went from #1 defense to #15 defense. Donald was still in his prime. I'm not for Staley, but there was more to it than just Donald.

They also had a prime Jalen Ramsey. What they did seem to do was create off-ball linebackers out of nowhere. How many of those dudes went and got fat contracts? Could be Aaron Donald getting triple teamed though.
I don't want any part of Staley to be honest. I would much rather have someone who is gonna blitz your booty off and man up.

What is that? Are you the zodiac killer? Staley had ONE season of success with the Rams. He has been an abject failure with the chargers. His defenses have been bad even with some really good talent. I REALLY don't know which one is smarter. I also don't REALLY know which one is a better coordinator. What I do know is there are far better options than either one.

BIGGER QUESTION
Maybe the Flower doesn't want a big personality to lead this defense. Maybe the guys he's considering are guys he's friends with (Staley) or guys who are considered risers, but not that qualified on paper.
It takes a confident coach to hire somebody whose overqualified, maybe just as qualified on defense as Matty is on Offense.
Holmgen never seemed afraid of that.
