The Packers select: Perrish Cox CB Oklahoma State
    Overview
After a U.S. Army All-American prep career in Waco, Cox made an immediate impact for the Cowboys. He returned the opening kickoff of the 2006 season for a touchdown, becoming the first 'Poke true freshman to do that since Barry Sanders in 1988.

That season Cox made 24 tackles and two interceptions, then followed it up with another solid campaign in 2007, when he started the last eight contests. He was named honorable mention All-Big 12 by league coaches in 2008 after putting together his second consecutive season with two interceptions and eight pass breakups. Cox capped off his career in Stillwater with a first-team all-conference senior year in which he led the nation in passes defended per game (1.73, four interceptions, 15 pass breakups).

Simply looking at Cox's size, straight-line speed and statistics, including his return skills (six career touchdowns) leads one to believe he could be a top-40 pick. But questions about his maturity, tackling, and technique against top-flight receivers might cause him to fall further than expected.

    Analysis
Read & React: Recognizes routes and diagnoses whether the receiver is the primary read by reading body language. Alert to swing passes in the flat in zone coverage. Reads receiver screens, avoids the block and closes to make the play near or behind the line. A step slow attacking in his zone or to chase plays, and will take poor angles to the ball.

Man Coverage: Should flourish as a press cover corner at the next level. Smooth hip transition from backpedal. Best in press coverage, using his length and size to neutralize the receiver, but could be more consistent getting his hands on jersey at the line. Keeps contact with receiver downfield to prevent separation. Has height and vertical leap to win jump balls. Often forces quarterback to look in another direction. Will lose his balance and footing on double moves. Likes to be physical downfield and must be more disciplined in this area.

Zone Coverage: Smooth pedal for his height and usually stays low. Maintains cushion for a few steps. Changes direction easily to shadow receiver. Can knock receiver off a route before letting him go to the safety. Keeps eyes in the backfield to make play on short throws or runs. Will come off his man to give help behind him when the ball is in the air.

Closing/Recovery: Good arm length to knock away passes after recovering, will take the ball out of receivers' hands during the catch. Must learn to read receivers' eyes and turn for the ball in man. Can accelerate to the ball in front of him, but has only adequate recovery speed if beaten off the line or on double moves. Only average hands for the interception, and will drop catchable passes.

Run Support: Willing in run support, displaying the toughness to get after a ballcarrier. Maintains outside leverage to keep running backs from getting the corner. Despite his height and well-developed upper body and leg builds, does not stand up against or get off downfield blocks from larger receivers very well. Uses his speed to run around blocks on receiver screens.

Tackling: Closes on receivers well when playing off, and will wrap the legs or waist to secure the tackle immediately after the catch. Has the strength to lift and plant receivers when tackling with squared shoulders. Drops his head when tackling in the open field, however, leading to missed tackles.

Intangibles: Started to take on a leadership role in the secondary as a senior, but his maturity is under question again after missing curfew before the Cotton Bowl and later tweeting about it. Good work ethic in the weight room, although it does not always translate on the field. Has three children. Arrested for speeding and driving with a suspended license in September 2009. Solid kickoff returner with necessary size and speed but must improve his vision to find open lanes and hit them hard instead of dancing; he will not get the corner against NFL special teams coverage units. Needs work on his blocking when in tandem return formation.

Still needing help in the front seven the Philadelphia Eagles will elect to fill that hole with the first Buckeye taken off the board.

    Thaddeus Gibson, DE/OLB, OSU

With Gibson they get a competant player that should be able to play and if he can't start should still be able to provide depth at DE and OLB. With Weatherspoon and Alualu they should be able to update their front seven considerably.

I'll provide more analysis later. I also considered Hardy and Arthur Jones at this spot.

Arizona lost Karlos Dansby in free agency and Gerald Hayes will turn 30 this year.

Therefore, the Arizona Cardinals select Donald Butler, ILB Washibgton

    Strengths:
Great size with a muscular physique --- Very Athletic --- Explosive and fast with a burst --- Smooth with nice agility and quickness --- Terrific instincts to read and react --- Excellent strength --- Does a fantastic job in pursuit and closes in a hurry --- Able to avoid blockers --- Reliable tackler --- Can match up in man coverage --- Decent blitzer --- Hard Worker --- Leader --- Versatile --- Superb special teamer --- Productive.

    Weaknesses:
Durability may be a concern --- Struggles when he has to take on and shed blockers --- Lacks power in his game --- Not a big hitter --- Can be too aggressive at times --- Gets engulfed when massive linemen lock on --- Is not stout at the point of attack --- Frame might be maxed out.

Arizona top need coming into the draft was O-line help and since they have yet to address that need the Cardinals select....

    OT Selvish Capers

    Overview

Capers is a converted tight end that made the move prior to his sophomore year and has shown steady improvement each year. While he has the speed and initial quickness to play on the left side, he is probably best suited to play right tackle. He is an adequate knee bender in pass protection and will let his pad level get a bit high but does play with a good base and often manages to recover in time to ride opponents by the pocket when pass blocking. Would like to see him finish blocks off more consistently but at least he doesn’t back down from a challenge. Still needs some work on his blocking angles as well as how quickly he picks up blocks on his own but when he knows what he needs to do he can look decisive.

    Strengths

Good height and bulk. Flashes above-average speed and athletic ability. Quick first step allows him to get to defenders in the open field. Uses long arms in pass protection to move rushers past the pocket. Maintains body control and balance with a wide base.

    Weaknesses

Does not have the strength to consistently drive defenders off the ball. Fails to attack with a punch and lets defenders engage him. Plays high and struggles to finish blocks. Needs to improve his awareness for blocking angles and assignments.

The Cowboys drafted OT Charles Brown in the first round and FS Morgan Burnett in the second, Jerry Jones wants to shore up the run defense, so the pick is: Torrell Troup, DT, UCF
    Overview
Although Torell changed his last name from Johnson to Troup for his last two seasons at UCF to honor the reemergence of his father into his family's life, it wasn't hard for scouts or opposing offenses to find his big body in the middle of the field.

He earned second-team All-Conference USA accolades each of the past two seasons, first making 52 tackles, 12.5 for loss and two sacks as a junior on the Conference USA championship team. Those numbers were down a bit last fall (35-5-2) due to receiving more double-teams, but coaches recognized his ability to lead a rushing defense ranked in the top five nationally and take pressure off pass-rushing DEs Bruce Miller (13 sacks) and Jarvis Geathers (11).

It's hard for teams to find nose tackles with Troup's size, strength and motor in the middle rounds of the draft, so don't be surprised if he is selected earlier than many project.

    Analysis
Pass rush: Bull rusher who often pushes his man (or a double-team when fresh) to collapse the pocket using leverage. Able to rip off blocks, punch and swim over the top, or even get under the arm of guards to pressure the quarterback if he hangs onto the ball too long. Limited burst; will provide some heat but not many sacks. Sits on many obvious passing situations.

Run defense: Stands his ground against single and double blocks using his girth and strength, although he lacks the quickness to split the double. Can be violent with hands to free himself. Able to sift through trash inside to get to ballcarrier. Moves laterally while engaged to stay in the play. Needs improvement avoiding and recovering from cut blocks.

Explosion: Quick and powerful off the snap, penetrating easily against man-up blocks. Good balance after initial contact, keeping pads low and moving forward. Loses steam coming off the ball throughout the game.

Strength: Very strong player; prime nose tackle candidate. Uses a low center of gravity and thick upper body to gain leverage. Able to stack his man and disengage to chase the quarterback or wrap up ballcarriers.

Tackling: Has length and upper-body strength to bring down most any player in his immediate area. Willing to chase down players but lacks burst to track them down from behind without help or consistently make tackles outside the box. Doesn't change directions easily, and can be eluded in space. Must keep his feet moving instead of relying on his strength to make arm tackles.

Intangibles: Hard-working, unselfish leader with a quiet sensibility. Consistently gives good effort inside whether rushing the passer or stopping the run. No major character issues. Worked off 30 pound of weight during his career to gain stamina, although he still carries extra around his midsection.

The Chargers have drafted Terrance Cody and J Best and are already elated

They can't believe that they are going to be able to add another quality leader and player into their secondary.

The Chargers select Safety Reshad Jones from the U of Georgia

Jones redshirted in 2005 despite being ranked the No. 1 recruit in the state of Georgia by some services. He racked up 56 tackles and two interceptions but started just two games in '06.

A starter in 12 of 13 games as a sophomore, Jones emerged as one of the best at his position in the country, posting 76 tackles and a team-leading five interceptions in earning second-team all-SEC honors. It was his missed tackle against Georgia Tech runner Roddy Jones, however, that many remembered from his 2008 campaign.

After considering leaving after the '08 season for the NFL, Jones opted to stay at Georgia. His numbers slipped slightly (73 tackles, four INTs), but Jones was steady in coverage and as an open-field tackler.

With all of the attention Eric Berry (Tennessee), Earl Thomas (Texas) and Taylor Mays (Southern Cal) have received, Jones has gone a little under the radar for those outside of the SEC. NFL scouts see the big-hitting ballhawk as capable of making an immediate impact at either safety position.

    2009 Season
Named All-SEC Second Team by Phil Steele … Earned team's Most Improved Player award for defense … Started all 13 games making 73 tackles, seven pass break-ups, four interceptions and a forced fumble … Registered a season-high 10 tackles vs. No. 4 LSU … Tallied nine tackles vs. S. Carolina and had eight tackle games at Vanderbilt and vs. Kentucky … Seven tackles, an INT and a pass break-up at No. 7 Ga. Tech … Tied for the team-lead with seven tackles vs. No. 1 Florida … Posted five tackles, an interception and two pass break-ups in victory over Texas A&M in Independence Bowl … Named to watch list for Jim Thorpe Award … Selected Preseason All-SEC Second Team by Phil Steele … Named Preseason All-SEC Third Team by SEC Coaches … Named to Athletic Director's Honor Roll for summer semester … Recipient of Loy D. Thompson, IV, Football Scholarship.

    Browns select Myron Rolle

Typical straight line speed, reacts and closes quickly, good change of direction agility, very intelligent who can read and understand the game well. Lacks top ball skills, has been out of football for a year, need to question his commitment.

THE MN Vikings attempted to trade up with several teams who lack the ability to find Offensive Rookies of the year and they are celebrating their guy falls to them.

They look no further than the teammate of last years Offensive Rookie of the Year.

They realize their main rival is the Packers and this pick will further expose the inability of Atari Bigby to cover NFL calibur threats.

The Minnesota Vikings select Aaron Fernandez, TE from Florida

With Percy Harvin and Louis Murhpy leaving for the NFL, Hernandez was being called upon to step up significantly in 2009 -- and step up he did, catching more passes (68) for more yards (850) than any other tight end in the country. Hernandez's reliable hands and penchant for the big play in critical situations did not go unnoticed by rival coaches, who voted him to the first-team all-SEC squad, or the media, who made him the first Mackey Award winner in SEC history.

Despite winning the Mackey Award as the nation's best tight end, NFL teams will have to decide if this is the position he'll fit best in the pros. Not big or strong enough to compete as an inline blocker, Hernandez may be asked to move to H-back. What is not questioned is his ability to be a matchup nightmare for defenses. Hernandez may not be the first or second tight end selected in the 2010 draft, but blessed with good quickness as a route-runner, surprising strength and balance after the catch and sticky, reliable hands, he might just be the one making the most immediate impact.

Defensively, the Bengals need someone at RDT to complement Domata Peko.

Arthur Jones DT Syracuse is a disruptive force in the Tommy Harris mold.

    Strengths:
Good size with long arms and a stout build --- Very athletic --- Great speed and quickness --- Explosive and fires off the snap --- Extremely active with a non-stop motor --- Terrific range --- Does a fantastic job in pursuit --- Uses his hands well --- Understands leverage --- Can penetrate and collapse the pocket --- Able to hold his ground at the point of attack --- A reliable tackler with some power --- Is smart with excellent instincts and awareness --- Offers schematic versatility --- A strong work ethic --- Team Leader --- Has loads of quality experience.

    Weaknesses:
Is not much of a sack artist --- Needs to develop additional pass rush moves and counters --- Struggles to get off blocks at times --- Average bull rush --- Doesn't really stun with initial punch --- Durability concerns.

If we got Davis, Sapp, and Cox with our first 3 picks I would be very happy with the draft but I doubt we'll end up with any of them.

With the last pick in the 3rd round of the NFL draft the Atlanta Falcons select...

    Montario Hardesty, RB Tennessee

The Falcons really lost a lot when Turner went down with injury last year. Jerious Norwood, though talented, hasn't been effective on the field and can't stay healthy and would seemingly make a better 3rd down back. Hardesty will compete with Jason Snelling for the right to back up Turner when he needs a rest or if he were to get injured again.

I doubt we could get a round in before the draft, but thanks for participating everyone! I like the Packers picks but I doubt the draft will fall that way. Be sure to check after the draft to see how many we got right.
    Thanks Ted!
