He was never spectacular and could be beaten, but was a more natural Guard than Colledge. The injury robbed him of his toughness. He needed to be replaced and was, though it took an All-Pro to do it. I think your memories of him are tainted by his backup time and exit.

He was better than any other interior starter/backup they had until Linsley/Tretter.
