I have heard that you need to be pretty skilled to successfully do this with the young, the elderly and chronically ill patients. A nurse in the family always insisted on a nurse from the chemotherapy ward when they needed to put in a line.

Anytime you breach the skin you’re opening the route for infection. You really haven’t lived until you’ve got a line in your one-year-old’s jugular vein and femoral artery simultaneously.

That alone is scary but from a detail Standpoint why not shave where they put the tape? That’s just basic stuff.

Seriously, why not put the line in the antecubital space?
