What are these Packers anno 2007/08 made of? Is this the beginning of contending for years or a flash in pan? Favre or not! Please don't say that everything hinges on Favre 'cos Favre needs help to win the SB as he needed help to win the SB back 1997.

Packers need to be smart and bold in upcoming free agency. Draft is a given; scout, scout scout and keep doing what you do TT (in this department). More boldness in free agency though...and in letting aging players sit or walk if need be.

What do you think? I want a championship!

The Packers are in a good position for the future. The team is relatively young, and has a lot of emerging players who are only going to improve more in the next 2-3 years (Bigby, Hawk, Jenkins, Harrell, Jennings, Jones, Grant)

Favre was the glue holding together that offense most of this season. His eventual departure will leave a big hole...but the supporting cast will likely be relatively strong when he does leave. The only glaring weakness on offense at this point is the interior OL...and one good player would go a long way in getting that secured. The OTs will need to be replaced eventually, but there is some evidence that we might have some guys already on the roster who can fill those roles.

Defensively, the team is in great shape. The front seven is very good and very young. Kampman, Pickett, Barnett and Jenkins all have 3-5 more years of strong play left in them. Hawk, Jolly and Harrell probably have even more than that. Poppinga could be upgraded...and we need a young pass rush specialist to take KGB's place and also spell Kampy in the short term. The secondary needs a bit of an overhaul looking forward. Replacements for Woodson and Harris need to be identified and start growing in the system. The safety position might be a good spot to add a veteran leader...rather than continue to toss inexperienced rookies at the problem.

The base of the team is strong. We need one more Pro Bowl caliber player on both sides of the ball to make this team a strong title contender. On offense, we might get it just from the continued development of guys like Grant, Jennings and Jones. On defense, I think we may need to go out and acquire it. As it is, we should be a strong contender for the NFC North in 2008...and have a reasonable shot at winning the NFC.

10? How about 25?

Seriously, I think he's done with that, unless he likes one of those guys he thinks he can snag 10 picks lower.... He's got to realize that depth is not really a problem any longer. We need a few good "playmakers". Yes, you can find them in the 7th round, but the odds are better higher, or with a free agent who is already established <GASP> did I just say that out loud?

We've got to get the "flea market" mentality out of him.

We've got to get the "flea market" mentality out of him.  I think TT is more motivated by opportunity than money. If he sees an opportunity like Woodson or Pickett, he goes after it. But if it isn't there, he has no problem waiting until next year. There is no telling this year what he sees. Looks like a better FA crop than last year, but that isn't saying much.
