I guess Ingle a former high school kicker was fooling around after practice and kicked a couple of 49 yard field goals. I would think that gives him a possible roster spot as 3rd QB and emergency kicker. Hell, he just might end up to be the best kicker on the current roster.

A sneaky old dog who just might know a few tricks, I hope he does anyway.

He also punted in college. I don't know how it would work if they needed him to kick or punt in an actual game because he would be listed as the emergency QB and would not actually be on the active game day roster.

Not too far off topic but does anyone know if Canadian Punter Jon Ryan can hold or willl that be Aaron Rodgers job...... or someone else?

No, Ryan does not hold - or at least he didn't last year in Winnepeg.

I think I did see something about him trying in the first minicamp though.

Re: Dual purpose kickers
We had a sweet setup in university. An Aussie rules football player - he was a backup HB, and could punt - with both feet, and on the run.
The idea was to bring him in short distances, in the opponents half of the field. If he saw an opportunity, he could go for the first down, otherwise just kick it.

I watched him running left, not like what he saw, and punt it 20-25yds on the run. It was really cool!

I like the fact that Martin has lots of different capabilities. Gives the Packers more flexibility. If he can be a backup QB, backup kicker and backup punter, what a find!

Even if they make a holder out of him, then you have a qb holding the ball if a snap is bad or if you want to fake and pass to AJ Hawk ala New England.

Ingle Martin = George Blanda?

If they want him to hold, they have to make him the 2nd string QB. 3rd string/emergency QB isn't allowed in the game except when...oh, I don't know when he's allowed in, but there has to be a good reason, I know that much!

I believe one of the reason's Pederson was 2nd string all those years was so he could hold for Longwell!

Thanks, Guinn, don't mention it...

If your third string emergency QB comes into play neither the 1st string, or 2nd string qb can re-enter the game.

He doesn't have to be "2nd string" to hold, he just can't be designated as the "3rd QB". The Packers could count him, Rodgers and Favre each as regular game day active players and short themselves somewhere else. He can then come in and out at will, along with any other QB on the roster. The team doesn't have to take advantage of the 3rd QB rules. You can have all three as regular actives, if you want.

Just list him as a punter then.

Then your over your game day active roster limit. I believe you can have 45 regular players, and then your emergency QB. I am not sure about the actual numbers of actives but I know your emergency QB isn't listed as one of them.

No you aren't over, you just list him as one of the regular actives. Normally you can list 45, plus a "3rd QB". What you can do is list all of your quarterbacks on the list of 45. You have no "3rd QB". All 3 are regular actives and can go into or come out of the game just like any of the regular game day actives. Essentially, you will have one less player at another position.

Some will get all bent out of shape by having "one less player" But realistically it is not that big of a deal depending on a few other things, such as:

1. Can Davenport backup both FB and RB, allowing you to have 4 rather than 5 active?
2. Can you find a longsnapper who can actually backup at a regular position?
3. Do you have 5 active WRs, or 4 plus Woodson?
4. Is your D-line verstile enough to have several that play both DT and DE?
5. Are you O-line backups capable of backingup 2 or more positions?
6. Are your ST players versatile, playing on punt and punt return, Kickof and return, or do you have a lot who play on only 2 of the STs?

On the disadvantage side:
7. How many players are nursing injuries that may not allow them to complete the game?

Of course - you could do that. You don't see it very often though. I think most coaches are not willing to give up that extra body that can play another position.

4. Is your D-line verstile enough to have several that play both DT and DE?

I think this is where we are the most versatile. Peterson and Jenkins regularly switch between the two. And I've seen Kamp line up inside.

OTOH some teams lose a spot to a kickoff specialist, so *shrug*
