This video will discuss it all and put the fricken play to rest... I know some of you might not want to see the whole play over again, but this is a very good analysis of the play...

GREAT Link! Thanks.

When does Favre ever lob a ball as he did that one?
The throw was even worse than I remembered it being, off line and weak.

That is a great clip - a little choppy on the Verizon card but nonetheless puts this play to rest. I wonder what Brett's 2nd read would've been though?

Oh - here's my pics from the stands of 'the play' before/after....

What do you mean "what might have been?" We didn't move the ball all day. Even if Brett makes this completion, what makes you think we'd be able to drive down to score anyway? The offense had no rhythm and nothing was working.

Cosell says, "Driver does a good job selling his inside route to Webster." I wonder if he sold his inside route to his QB, too? Didn't Favre say in his PC that he misread DDs route?

As Patler said, the way that ball was thrown, it was a lob - not just a poor release on a ball meant to go outside. Favre would have had a lot more on one meant for DDs outside shoulder.

Could be - he pulled back on it (at least one ball tap).

It was also fricken freezing (getting even colder at the time and against the wind). Brett didn't look comfortable or like he was even enjoying the game. Not an excuse for the bad throw - but weather definitely had a part in the terrible 4th Q/OT drives.

Ok - here it is.

From Favre's PC: ‘‘I just didn’t throw it outside enough,’’ Favre said. ‘‘It was what we call a shake route. Donald had slipped him more like an out route, which was fine. I just didn’t get it out far enough. It’s too bad."

(definitions from QB handbook)
A shake route: WR drives up field 5 yds, stutter step outside, then essentially a crossing route that can be hit for anywhere between 10-15 yds. It destroys man coverage. Pass lead can vary (meaning QB can throw it to either the inside or the outside shoulder.)

On a 10 yard out route, the WR runs a 5 yd quick slant, then drives 5 yds up field, breaks out at 10 yds. Pass lead is to the outside.

My conclusion: the route was a shake route... Favre read that DD was breaking to the inside when, in fact, he broke outside. Either Favre never intended to send it outside, or realized too late that it should go outside and just couldn't get enough on it at the point of release.

what was amazing was how STOUT the defense was after the interception. The 47 yd FG was quite a feat by the kicker

It was Overtime. What we did earlier in the game didn't matter. You just need one or two plays to go your way and then maybe, just maybe, we're in the Super Bowl. Am I saying we would of won? No. But losing like that is tough.

I agree..I think we very well could have driven down and at least gotten a field goal..Who knows, maybe another long touchdown pass, that's where most of the offense came from anyway haha

on a night when almost NOTHING worked offensively and needing eight yards for a first down, an easy toss to grant would've got 10-15 and with his speed and a downfield block or two maybe a touchdown to end it. so to me it was the wrong decision. take what they give you. on that play they gave up a lot of space to grant.

oh well... at least the fk'n boys didn't make it either.

We'd done that all game and it gave us 1 for 10 conversions on 3rd down.

Good protection, good pocket and one bad pass, that's it folks and for trhose of you who want to defend Brett, keep doing it but he made a terrible throw in a clutch situation. This was a team loss but that pretty much was the dagger!
