"Young Britons under 20 lack a basic historical education according to the survey results, historian Correlli Barnett told the Daily Mail."

I remember reading that our young ones are severely lacking when it comes to history and geography.

There are many that do not believe the Holocaust even exited as well. I have no idea what history they teach in schools, but being the father of young kids it scares me a little.

You learn to figure out exactly what they're being taught in school and fill in what you need them to know. We recently learned that as of my kid's grade, they stopped teaching cursive writing in school so I'll be teaching it to him myself, heaven help him.

50 years of pot smoking convinced Willie Nelson that it did.

LL2,

There is something disconcerting that the words "father of young kids" is about 3 millimeters away from the breasts of the woman in your avatar on my computer screen. :)

Very distracting avatar. It's easy to lose one's train of thought.

:D It's crazy.

Moving left to right your eyes read the words, "Ron Paul" written on a woman's chest and then the words "father of young kids."

It discombobulated my inner ying-yang.

(Kinda like a few weeks ago when I was sitting on a beach in Thailand at dusk minding my own bidness when a human couple and a canine couple started.....um, "extreme amorous activity" shall we say, just a few yards apart from each other.

I asked myself, "Why is this scene grossing me out?" My inner ying-yang was seriously messed up.)

I know, I know......TMI (Too Much Information)

As I said, I was an innocent (and  ) observer to what suddenly started taking place. The human couple were Russian. The dog couple looked local.

I had a weird feeling seeing them at the breakfast buffet at the hotel the next morning. I wanted to say something smart-a to them but the only Russian I know is "Good Morning, Good Night, Sit down, Please, Thank You."

Come to think of it, that's probably all they said to one another on the beach. :P :P

I can't find the article but America's education system standards decline as the students get older compared to other countries.

In regards to science.

During the early stages of a student's "career" America is at the top of the ladder.

During the tween stages America's students are average compared to other Western countries.

During 12th grade America's students are below the rest of the world.

It's funny and sad at the same time. Seriously, people do not know the religion of the country we give the most foreign aid to?

Misleading. Many other countries aren't forcing students to go 12 grades in general education. By 10th grade or sooner, they are forced into a certain field or trade. Anybody who actually believes we are "dumber" than most other countries needs to study the facts and not just spew what they've heard. Are we the brightest? No, but to say we are below the rest of the world is flat wrong. Also, we have more folks that go into the university system because of this, so if you take the average "intelligence" of our college students it probably doesn't rank as high as many other countries. That's misleading too--since only the best of the best get into college in other countries. It's hard to compare school systems between countries because they often differ so much.

These stats are similar to the stats on obesity. Sure, there are fat people in this country. Lots of them. However, there is no chance in hell that 65% of Americans are obese--like some studies show. Those stats are based on the BMI (body mass index)--which is ludicrous. Most of the RBs in the NFL would be considered obese by BMI. In fact, most of the body builder types and many of the people that workout a lot would be classified as obese by those antiquated measurements.

This just in: most studies show there's an epidemic or crisis of some kind. Usually the results of those studies benefits somebody financially.

I'll agree that BMI is BS simply because it does not factor in muscle mass. It's simply weight and height. Quickly putting in numbers Ryan Grant is border line obese, Brandon Jacobs is obese, and Brett Favre is getting pretty close to being obese, too.

I can see your point. I have thought about changing my avatar to a "clean" one and change the rat name too because I have kids. Both my kids are two and under and do not go on the computer or the internet. I will have to change that soon as they will someday soon. I have had racy avatars, but in reality I'm a very conservative guy and "clean" cut.
