BLACK HOLE CONTINUES TO SPEW BLACK GOLD

There's a theory making the rounds in league circles that the Oakland Raiders are trying to reverse a perception of dysfunction by becoming the team that splurges more than any other in free agency. Already, we've heard that multiple agents are using the readiness of the Raiders to overpay as leverage in negotiations.

Though, eventually, the Raiders will run out of money, they've still got enough to ink receiver Javon Walker to a blockbuster deal.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Walker has agreed to terms on a six-year, $55 million deal that includes $16 million in guaranteed money.

Walker will earn $27 million over the first three years of the contract.

Wow.

The former first-round pick of the Packers tore an ACL in 2005, and was traded in April 2006 to Denver. He signed a long-term deal including significant option/roster bonuses in years two and three. The Broncos kept him after a strong 2006, but dumped him following a subpar 2007 that was plagued by problems with the same knee that he injured more than two years ago.

say goodbye to football as we know it as long as teams can continue to act like Oakland has this off season.
not every player is worth 10 million a year, and the way things are going, that will become reality pretty soon.

The Raiders are so stupid. They'll always be stupid as long as they have that ignorant owner. How does Walker get that much money? That's Moss type money!

More proof that the NFL went down the toilet on March 4th.

He's a bit of a tard, but he is a hard worker and when healthy a top notch player.

wow, stupid move, that knee might be done. he might never be the player again he was that ONE year

i see this as being a huge problem for the nfl in the years to come. you can't keep paying every slightly above average player huge bucks. teams have the extra cap room now, if the cba continues, that free cap space will dry up, and there will be no huge paydays for the players that should get those huge paydays

or, maybe teams know they are going to get rid of the cba, and there will be no cap starting 2010

either way, its bad news

With that wild, out of control spending on foolish projects like Walker's contract, it shows that Al Davis must be a Republican! :)

NFL owners need to take away Al's playtoy before he puts them all out of business.

Let's all pull back a second. We saw how what was reported for Corey..and that wasn't true.

I'm going out on a limb and bet that not all that money is guaranteed.

You are no doubt correct that the deal probably isn't as good as it looks...

But even $10M guaranteed for a guy with major injury concerns like Walker seems ridiculous.

Tack on the other dumb deals Al's put together this offseason...and it's time to put Al out to pasture.

There is a real possibility that Walker may never play again.

I don't know if he can pass his physical.

Has Al Davis lost it or what?

I heard about 8 weeks ago that Raiders were having $ problems. This doesn't fit that profile at all.

For Jwalk to get Moss type money is just stupid. Harry and Lloyd were not even that dumb....at least Lloyd got candy for a dead bird.

Heard it is a cross, ah, Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff. Davis has got pounds of it.

I'm thinking of hiring Javon Walker to manage my investments. The guy has managed to parlay one Pro-Bowl season into about a hundred million dollars.

Every organization has a high end and a low end. A smart and a dumb. A too much and a not enough.

This ins't going to kill the NFL. The owners know this is an acne-ravaged old white guy being stupid.

Okay. Maybe Daniel Snyder will be swayed. But no one else.

Don't know much about the Raiders, and their antics contract wise. Just that I don't pay attention to them. All I know is that they're not the Redskins or the Steelers.

Has AD generally put them in cap hell?

I don't see this as a move that skews things. As long as there's a cap, there's going to be a reckoning. Unlike baseball and Steinbrenner, he can't keep doing this to every player that comes along until he hits one. In football, you only get so many shots with your wallet.
