View Full Version : TT & Co. being criticized

I've been seeing many articles and hearing some stuff on the radio bashing Packer management, especially TT. That they should've done more to bring Brett back. I completely disagree. Like TT said, Brett is a grown 38 year old amn that doesn't need constant phone calls saying "So, Brett, are ya comin' back? We love ya man!" A weekly call from M3 is more than fine, and tired of hearing that the read carpet should've been rolled out for Favre. I love Favre, he's a legend and in my my the greatest QB of all time, but he doesn't need to be treated like royalty.

Can't agree more LL2. Badgering Favre to come back would just have him wondering if he came back cuz he wanted to or cuz T.T. wanted him do.

T.T. bashers are really starting to tick me off.

Poor Thompson. He looked like he was going to shit his pants at the press conference. He looked awfully nervous anyway. I thought it was funny that whenever someone asked about his lack of activity in Free Agency, or about personnel decisions, that he may have to make now that Favre is gone....... he always deflected the question by saying that it would be inappropriate to discuss anything other than Brett Favre at such a time. Of coarse, he made sure to mention Favre's age a few dozen times, and the age of the rest of the team and how Favre and the youngsters relate to each other.

Reporter asks: Do you think Favre would have returned for another year if you had tried to sign Randy Moss?

Thompson replies: This conference is not about who we have signed or have not signed, this conference is about a 38 year old man, playing with guys half his age, who has decided to retire on his own, who am I to try to talk him out of such a decision.

Yes Ted, who are you to say anything at all?

My guess is that people in the media are just trying to generate controversy, plain and simple. They may or may not believe what they're saying, but they throw out wild theories because that makes for "interesting" discussion.

At least, I honestly think that if Favre did need Ted Thompson to massage his feet with scented oils and peel his grapes for him in order for Brett to come back another year, retiring was the right decision. I mean, I'm as much a Favre fan as anybody, but I'm not a fan of that Favre.

Honestly, Favre seems to be insinuating that anything other than a Superbowl win would be a disappointment for him this year. I think that puts the Packers brass in an unwinnable situation, since there's nothing Ted Thompson could have possibly done in the first weekend of Free Agency that would guarantee a trip to the superbowl. If Brett wants that sort of surety, he shouldn't be playing football anymore.

Give P.B a match and he starts a house on fire.

Or his pant leg... if he's wearing any.

I would also agree that blaming anyone for Favre's retiring is absurd. It diminishes everyone involved. Human beings always feel the need for answers when sometimes the only answer is:

SHIT HAPPENS!

Right or wrong, the only way TT can ever save face on this is by winning the Super Bowl.....not likely.

I don't follow at all. We all knew Favre was going to retire sooner or later who the GM was or whether his boots were appropriately licked. I'm honestly grateful to Thompson for putting together a team that managed to let Favre end his career with one of the winningest seasons in the history of the franchise. Favre didn't win all 14 of those games by himself, after all.

All Thompson has to do is win and it will all go away. Let the big mouth, liars with pens go crazy. Thompson controls his own destiny, he knows it, hence he doesn't answer ridiculous questions.

Um....What? The entire purpose of the press conference was to confirm that Brett Favre was retiring...when they walked out the reporters were TOLD not to ask any other questions unless they are directly related to the retirement of Favre...Ted Thompson doesn't play the "hindsite" way of going about business...WELL IF YOU HAD DRAFTED SANTA CLAUS DO YOU THINK IT'D BRING YOU MORE LUCK? who cares? The idea was just to confirm their QB was retiring, not playing the what if game.

He answered the questions perfectly fine. What did you want him to tell you? He has HIS way of doing business, and sorry, but he isn't going to pay a guy $50 million just because it might help our aging QB for one more maybe glorious year. Time to move on.

I agree with Ted..Brett's a grown man, if he's not up to going through the rigors of another season, , no one should try to force him..He deserves to relax, he's had a long and brilliant career.

Poor Thompson.

You're just mad because you were wrong, and his fine work netted him a lengthy contract extension.

Gee SC, it always amazes me that you and you alone can see through other people to get at exactly what they are thinking.

Even more amazing are the people who disappear for entire football seasons because they were wrong about just about everything they opened their piehole about and would rather wait until they have something else to be wrong about instead of just admitting they were dumb.

I dunno - I wouldn't get too amazed with my special prowess. You're pretty transparent, so you might be surprised at just how many people see right through your foolishness.
