I did two sets of four reps each leg of 230 pounds on barbell bulgarian split squats in tonight's training session.
This is what the exercise looks like. It's a literal pain in the butt. These are the reason why my quads have blown out numerous pairs of boxers while squatting.

my knees would blow out
plus, i don't think i'm ever sober enough to do that even without any weight

That's cause the kid in the video was doing them too deep. Either that or you have bad knees.

i don't think my ligaments can handle what those muscles can do

No, his form was perfect. The knee's going past parallel or squatting too deep thing is pretty much a myth.

Yeah, it's a long road before you're able to handle huge weight on that exercise. People usually start with dumbbells because they make it a little easier to stabilize yourself. The barbell is taking it up a notch in difficulty.

Whether he was doing them correctly or not.......still looks painful.
