Has anyone ever been to Tahiti?
I'm thinking of giving my wife a trip to Tahiti as a Graduation gift for finishing her PHD.
Its certainly beautiful, but is it worth the money?

I've heard from that the beaches are better in some of the surrounding islands, but that could just be a matter of personal preference.

There are some good reviews here....

She is going alone, leaving the kid with you? That is a real grad gift!!

No way Jose. If I send her alone she might not come back!
All 3 of us would go.

I haven't been, but know quite a few who have gone. Overwhelmingly....the opinion is that it is worth every penny and worth the long flight. The natural beauty is phenomenal and the people are genuine.

.............and tipping is prohibited and frowned on!!

That doesn't sound like a grad gift to me!!

She needs some relaxation time away from you and the kid!! Spa time, baby.

I know she'd like some spa time, but that doesn't seem like a big enough gift for an accomplshment like a PHD

Well, no doubt that Tahiti is great.

However, if you can mentally afford it...don't know how old the young one is...sending her for a couple of days to a nice spa is not cheap. Nor can the value of being pampered and not stressed with looking after the kids..i'm including you in that description as well.

Miravel and Canyon Ranch are excellent.

How about having the Packer Rats gathering '09 in Tahiti? We could watch the Packer game on closed circuit TV! :)

in most fields, a phd is a research degree and usually leads to a position in academia...however, I think you see a lot of people with education phd in administrative roles... just a guess though
