This is the last fucking year I do my taxes myself.

By thee I swear!

You would rather pay someone else to do it? Doing taxes is one thing I do not mind doing....after all I had a tax prep business for a few years. So, the thought of paying someone $150-200 do something I can do for $30 doesn't appeal to me.

Nothing wrong with paying a specialist to do something you could do yourself, as long as you find the benefits in terms of time savings, expertise, etc. is worth the money.

I used to do my own taxes every year, but for the past couple years I've had an accountant do them. I'm extremely happy with having them done this way, and I don't think I'll go back to doing them myself---totally worth it to me.

No different IMO than going to Quickie Lube for an oil change rather than doing that myself.

You could bake your own bread, grow your own veggies and raise and slaughter your own meat too. But who has the time?

Thank God for accountants.

I've always done my taxes myself with one or two exceptions due to extended travel but I'm done....I always did a great job but it just takes so much time anymore. A good friend who also owns a consulting business works with a group which I've decided to hook up with. Between all the business related income/expenses as well as investments it just all caught up to me this year. I made one tiny mistake.....and it took me three days to find where it was.

I know I didn't owe the fuckers that much money!

So you never pay for someone to wash your car, mow your lawn, brush your cat, watch your kids, make your meals, cut your hair, etc.?

Paying $200 to relieve yourself of the pressure is probably worth it to a lot of people.

wash your car? Yes
mow your lawn? No
brush your cat? If I had a cat I'd kill it.
watch your kids? Maybe, but we have an arrangement with another couple where we watch each others kids for free.
make your meals? Does eating out count?
cut your hair? Yes, would not trust my wife to do it.

Time is money, so everyone has their price on what they will pay for and do themselves. I'm tracking expenses and income for tax purposes al year long so when it comes to tax time it's a matter of plugging in the numbers. When it comes to other things it comes down do whether or not I care to do it or it takes me less time than it would cost me in terms of my time. Say you make $60 an hour, then it's worth paying $20 to have your oil changed in 20-30 minutes.
