I honestly think that since Colledge projects much better at Tackle than Guard (as does Moll, probably and possibly even Barbre), OG is much more of a need for this team than OT.

We have a bunch of tackles on the roster that we've tried to convert to guard (Barbre, Colledge, Moll, Chris Patrick, and Tyson Walter) and a few guys who played tackle in addition to other positions in college (Coston played every position, Ryan Keenan played RG and RT, Cameron Stephenson played Guard and Tackle.) It would be nice to get a guard and not convert him to anything.

I think honestly we probably have our LT and RT of the future on the roster (Colledge and Barbre), as well as our C of the future on the roster (Spitz). We just need two guards.

Colledge will be playing his natural position at LT. What have we seen of him there as a Packer?

On the whole I agree with your post. We do need to boost the interior of our OL with a solid mid round pick or two at guard.

i agree with lurker

just about every o-lineman we have on the roster was a tackle in college, except spitz who was a center. leave or move them back to the positions they know

Joe Toledo is also a Tackle/Guard guy, but he's one of the few on our roster that's listed as a Tackle instead of a Guard. He was a promising prospect out of college that spent a couple of years hurt and so got released. Maybe he'll amount to something.

As for our need at OG, is anybody else hoping that Rachal drops to where we pick in the second? I think he'd be a pretty good pick.

Rachal looks pretty promising. If they could snag him with the second 2, that'd be fine w/ me.

For the most part, in the NFL the guys who aren't athletic enough to play OT end up at OG because the OTs need to match up with speed rushers. Guys who might have been athletic enough to play OT in college may not hack it in the NFL. I believe that is the root of all the OL repositioning.

I like Cherilus, but he's more of a RT type. Duane Brown sounds like a real Ted type pick - former TE, very athletic. I could definitely see him with one of the late 2nd rounders.

I didn't know Barbre was a tackle.

You're right DH, but there's a reason that doesn't always work, and there's a reason guys get slotted into certain position based on body types.

A guy who has a natural OT build would be taller, and relatively long arms - to reach out and grab (yes, grab!) guys in space. A guard would have shorter arms, and a more barrel chest - generates more power for straight ahead blocking, more worried about stopping guys going through him than around him. The long lanky arms that help the OT put him at a leverage disadvantage at guard.

True...many of the college T's can't handle the speed of the outside rushers in the NFL.
IIRC the ZBS also calls for athletic, agile players, so I'm not surprised they are getting OTs and trying them at G. I do think the line needs shoring up. The OG's haven't wowed me, and there really isn't much proven, quality depth at OT. If Clifton goes down, Rodgers could be in big trouble.

I know JSO has posted stories that Barbre also played gunner on the punt team. That would be something to see.

Well TT has a good class from which to add some talent. The quality of the OLman is all the rage.
