2. ** Reggie Smith Height: 6-01/2 | Weight: 199 | 40-Time: 4.61

Official Bio

Strengths:

A smooth natural athlete...Good size and bulk...Very strong...A great leaper..Quick and plays faster than he times...Has fluid hips...Excellent range...Great hands and ball skills...A reliable tackler...Physical and will support the run...Smart with terrific instincts and awareness..Really versatile and can also contribute as a return man.

Weaknesses (Concerns):

Timed speed's relatively average...Lacks a burst to close...Has to put in some time when it comes to footwork...Can be a little too aggressive...He doesn't have much experience at cornerback....Could struggle to turn and run with pro wide receivers in man coverage....Might be a bit of a 'tweener....Has some minor health concerns.

Notes:

Highly-regarded recruit out of high school...Three-year starter who stepped in and made a instant impact as a true freshman..Played safety in 2005 and 2006 before moving to cornerback as a junior....Broke his big right toe late in the 2007 season which prevented him from working out for teams until early April...Is probably best suited for free safety at the next level but he can certainly play corner in the right situation...One of the most versatile defensive backs in this draft...Definite starter.

4. Tyrell Johnson Arkansas St. 5-117/8 207 4.45

Safety just may be the weakest position in this draft but that has allowed a relative unknown like Johnson to surface as an interesting prospect. A smart, productive, physical safety with good athleticism, Johnson didn't receive a lot of national attention because of where he went to school but that has not stopped the NFL from noticing him. In the last few months Johnson has ever so quietly emerged as one of the top rated safeties in this draft and at this point it doesn't look like there is much of a chance he will make it out of the 2nd round

DaJuan Morgan Height: 6-01/8 | Weight: 205 | 40-Time: 4.54

Official Bio

Strengths:

Has good size...Great natural athlete...Good speed and quickness with a burst to close...Nice instincts and awareness...Physical and aggressive...Decent range and can match up in coverage...Pretty good hands and ball skills...Isn't afraid to come up and support the run...Offers a lot of special teams value..** Still has some upside.

Weaknesses:

Could stand to bulk up a bit...Only started one year in college...Very raw and he is still learning the position...A marginal tackler who too often goes for the knockout blow...Overconfident at times and is bordering on cocky...Will let his emotions get the best of him...He does not always play to his measurables...Health / Durability?

Notes:

Dislocated his hip in a car accident prior to the season and did not play football as a high school senior...Began his college career as a wide receiver and only moved to safety in 2005...Was known more for his special teams work early on...Not yet a finished product but could be the best safety to come out of this draft down the road...

Has all the physical tools to be a superb safety at the next level and at the absolute least he will be a stud special teamer...One of the top safeties available.

Thomas DeCoud Height: 6-13/8 | Weight: 207 | 40-Time: 4.50

Official Bio

Strengths:

Very good natural athlete...Has terrific size with long arms...Does an excellent job versus the run...Physical and aggressive...Reliable tackler who can deliver the big hit...Has fluid hips to turn and run in coverage..Fantastic range...** Still improving...Is versatile with experience at safety and cornerback...A outstanding special teamer.

Weaknesses:

Timed speed is just average...Doesn't have great instincts..Needs to keep his pad level down...Lacks a burst to recover...Sub par hands and ball skills...He'll have to bulk up...Prone to biting on fakes...Inexperienced and is still learning the position.

Notes:

Began his college career as a cornerback and only moved to safety in 2005...Does it all on special teams (blocks kicks, covers) and could play in the league based on that skill alone...A developing prospect who still has some upside...A well-rounded player and is one of the top senior safeties available..Should at the absolute least be a top-notch backup and he definitely has the potential to start at the pro level.

If TT has it in him to just work a deal to trade up and package our #30 with either our #56 or #60 we pick at we may land this fella:

#1 Rated Safety in 2008 Draft:

Kenny Phillips Miami (FL) 6-21/4 212 4.55

Strengths:

Very good size and a solid frame...Excellent athleticism...Great timed speed with a burst to close...Instincts and awareness are outstanding..Fantastic range...Terrific hands and ball skills....Very physical and aggressive...Solid tackler who will deliver the big hit...Does a very nice job in run support..Good leaping ability...He excels in both man and zone coverage..Team leader...Productive...Great program pedigree.

Weaknesses:

Tends to over-pursue and bite on fakes...Still needs to work on his technique and footwork...Plays too high...Has trouble shedding blocks...Tried to evade contact at times...Has some minor durability concerns...Did not have a great junior campaign.

Notes:

The next in a long line of top Hurricane safeties, following in the footsteps of guys like Bennie Blades, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor and Brandon Meriweather...

Was one of the premier recruits in the entire country coming out of high school...

Stepped into the starting lineup as a true freshman and has been one of the top safeties in the nation ever since...

Marvelous all-around player who has everything you look for in terms of both physical tools and intangibles...

Is not in Sean Taylor's league but he could rank amongst the Top 10 safeties in the NFL relatively early on in his career.

GO TED GO!!

Noone really knows. :D
