According to Deion Sanders on the NFL Network's "Total Access," Bears KR/WR Devin Hester is unhappy with his contract and wants to be paid among the league's best.

He is their best player and he should get paid like it.

If they don't want to, I would be more than willing I give up both our second round picks for him. No joke.

But the leagues best what? Hester is in a class by himself as a return man, but not an elite receiver. So what is the pay scale he should be looking at? Anyway it's a Bear's headache, and I'm sure even they won't be stupid enough to try and screw him over.

I second the "league's best what" comment.

Does he want Peyton Manning money? Good luck with that Hester.

sure he can change the face of a game in one play, but he only plays like 10 plays a game

he's a return man period, he can be paid like one

but in this case i think the bears should break the bank for him

It was reported that the Bears opened discussions with Hester for a contract extension over a month ago already. It obviously hasn't made much headway, and Hester is ramping it up by being more public about it.

Hester's original contract was for 4 years at less than $3 million in total compensation. They will give him something, I suspect.

Well, he is likely the best KR/PR in the league. As such, he should probably be paid as much or more than every other KR/PR in the league. I don't think that's too much to ask, return specialists don't get paid that much anyway.

What did Desmond Howard get from the Raiders for being a top returner back in '97? (I know they were going to give him a chance to be a receiver too, but his main value was as KR.)

Yeah, they're pretty smart. It's not like they jerked Briggs around for two years and damn near ran Lovie out of town after he took them to a Super Bowl. Oh wait... yes they did.

I'm glad this is a Bears problem and not a Packers one.

Kick Returner is one position where it takes very little to have a lot of slippage in quality. I don't blame Hester for trying to break the bank while he's on top, because he could drop off from that lofty peak at any time--which makes it a bad idea to sign him to a big long term contract.

I hope you're joking. Do you really believe the Bears would trade him to a team within their division? The Bears front office would laugh the Packers out of town if they called about trading for Hester...it's not gonna happen.

True enough. For example, where is Dante Hall these days? In St. Louis?
Retired? Dancing with the Stars?
