1. MIAMI DOLPHINS

JAKE LONG OT | Michigan | Scouting Report
Back in mid-March I was one of the first, if not the first, people to have Jake Long going #1 overall to Miami and I am sticking with it because that is the most logical direction for them to go. A strong case can certainly be made for Vernon Gholston, there's no question about that, but the bottom line is offensive tackle addresses a greater need while also making a lot more sense financially. Miami has absolutely nothing on the roster at offensive tackle beyond Vernon Carey while they currently have a bunch of pass rushing outside linebackers so strictly in terms of "need" Jake Long is a slam-dunk. Perhaps more importantly though at $30+ million guaranteed, which is what the #1 pick will cost, Jake Long will actually be a good value whereas giving a 3-4 OLB that type of money would be grossly overpaying to the tune of 33% since proven Pro Bowl performers like Adalius Thomas and Joey Porter only got $20 million and that was on the open market. Also, there is a reason Jon Ogden, Walter Jones, Orlando Pace and even Flozell Adams have played for one team their entire careers. Teams that have top offensive tackles simply do not let them get away so the only way to land one is to draft him. Miami will no doubt do their best to try and make a deal to trade down but at this point it doesn't appear as though anyone wants to come up so for all the reasons I listed Jake Long gets the edge over Vernon Gholston.

2. ST. LOUIS RAMS

VERNON GHOLSTON DE | Ohio St. | Scouting Report
It is beginning to look more and more like this will be a defensive lineman for the Rams. If Jake Long is here he will likely be the pick but if he goes #1 then St. Louis will choose between Gholston, Glenn Dorsey and Chris Long. There has been a lot of chatter about how much the Rams love Dorsey but defensive end is a much more pressing need than tackle and they have to find somebody who can pressure the quarterback. The Rams only had 31 sacks all of last season and as good as Dorsey is he'll never be a double-digit sack guy at the next level, that's just not the type of player he is. On the other hand if you get Gholston's speed and athleticism coming off the edge on the turf in that dome and you could really have something. Simply put: Dorsey doesn't solve their problems, Gholston does. Maybe they'll take Dorsey after all but that would be a mistake. This is one of the pivotal turning points in the 2008 Draft and depending on what St. Louis does here the rest of the Top 10 could go in three or four distinctly different directions.

3. ATLANTA FALCONS

GLENN DORSEY DT | L.S.U. | Scouting Report
The Falcons appear to be zeroing in on three prospects and it is becoming pretty apparent that Glenn Dorsey is at the top of their wish list, with Matt Ryan and Jake Long as the backup options. Sure quarterback and offensive tackle are huge needs but they are just as thin at defensive tackle and with mock drafts it is important to look at the backgrounds and tendencies of each team's management regime. Head Coach Mike Smith has defensive credentials and General Manager Thomas Dimitroff comes from New England where they built their great defense by using #1 picks on Richard Seymour, Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork. Advantage Dorsey. Matt Ryan has to be in the conversation here but with three second round picks the Falcons will be in position to trade back up into the first round for either Brian Brohm or Joe Flacco and they may even be able land one of them at #34. Both Jake Long and Glenn Dorsey could be gone by this point in which case Atlanta's decision would be made for them but if Dorsey is available he is their guy.

4. OAKLAND RAIDERS

DARREN MCFADDEN RB | Arkansas | Scouting Report
You never really know what Al Davis will do but for all intents and purposes this is going to come down to Darren McFadden, Vernon Gholston or Chris Long. Gholston and McFadden are the types of freakish physical specimens with speed that Davis loves while Long is the son of an All-Time Raider great and Hall of Famer. It looks like at least one of those three will be gone by this point so that should make the decision a little easier but it may come down to sheer talent versus need. Oakland needs a pass rusher much more than they need a running back and either Gholston or Long would be an ideal fit for their hybrid defensive scheme. However, Davis has already made a huge splash this offseason and adding arguably the most exciting and talented player in the draft could be the cherry on top. Ultimately this comes down to a gut feeling and I wrestled with this pick more than any other but in the end I just kept coming back to Run DMC.

5. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

BRANDEN ALBERT OG | Virginia | Scouting Report
There's no question that Jake Long is the guy Kansas City wants but there is very little chance he will fall this far so they have three options. They could trade down, which is a real possibility but always much easier said than done. They could throw aside need and simply take the "Best Player Available", which would presumably be Matt Ryan even though they still like Brodie Croyle and have nobody to protect him. Or the third option would be to reach for the next best available offensive lineman and I think that is what they would do, assuming they couldn't work out a deal to move down. Branden Albert played guard for the most part in college but more and more teams are becoming convinced he can kick outside to tackle in the pros and that's why his stock is skyrocketing. Sure this might be a slight reach but Albert is now widely regarded to be a legit Top 10 option and the Chiefs are one of the many teams that reportedly like him. Kansas City will definitely explore all of their options and do everything that they can to move down but if / when push comes to shove I think they will grab the blocker that they so desperately need.

6. NEW YORK JETS

CHRIS LONG DE | Virginia | Scouting Report
With the way things are breaking down the Jets and Raiders are basically looking at the same two or three guys and New York might end up with whoever Oakland passes on. Jet fans are praying that Darren McFadden falls into their laps and he still might but if that's not meant to be then Chris Long isn't such a bad consolation prize. Even though they did sign Calvin Pace the Jets could still use another pass rusher and Chris Long is a great fit in every way imaginable. Not only does he have the physical tools to excel in a 3-4 defensive scheme but Long also possesses the type of elite intangibles that Eric Mangini and Co. are looking for. Mangini is trying to replicate what they did in New England and Long could be Mike Vrabel Version 2.0. Keep an eye on Matt Ryan here as well because the Jets do have some legitimate interest in him and as a big sleeper and potential surprise don't rule out Jonathan Stewart, who they reportedly love.

7. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (f/SF)

DERRICK HARVEY DE | Florida | Scouting Report
Allow me preface this by saying if there is going to be a trade in the Top 10 this is where it will likely happen. However, if they stay put I don't see the Pats going for a cornerback, like most do, because through the years they just have not devoted a lot of resources to that position. New England has had a lot of success plugging in average talents and we have already seen them start to do that this offseason with Fernando Bryant and Jason Webster. Where they really need help and have not been afraid to spend some money is linebacker. All of the Patriots starters are over 30-years-old and there is little or no depth to speak so Derrick Harvey would be a good fit because even though he played defensive end in college he is athletic enough to stand up at the next level. Plus Bill Belichik has had a bit of an affinity for Gators in recent years. On the face their real problem(s) would appear to be inside, where Junior Seau may be finished and Tedy Bruschi is basically year-to-year, but both Mike Vrabel and Adalius Thomas have some experience playing inside and are more than capable of doing so on a full-time basis if the Pats brought in an outside linebacker. As a potential surprise keep an eye on Keith Rivers here too...

8. BALTIMORE RAVENS

MATT RYAN QB | Boston College | Scouting Report
This is a dream scenario for Baltimore and while I'm not sure I would classify Ryan falling this far as likely it is definitely possible. For this to happen Glenn Dorsey will need to be available to Atlanta at #3 because if he is gone they would take Ryan. However, I just can't envision either the Chiefs or the Jets pulling the trigger on a signal caller so if Ryan does get past the Falcons he might just land in the Ravens laps. Quarterback is more of a need than ever for Baltimore now that Steve McNair has retired so it might be in their best interests to explore a trade up just to make sure they get their man. In fact, the Ravens could get all the way up to #5 overall just by dropping from #38 to #60 and giving up a 5th round pick and in my mind that is a small price to play for a potential franchise signal caller. If Ryan is out of the picture the Ravens would then turn their attention to a cornerback like Leodis McKelvin, a left tackle to replace Jon Ogden or simply take the best player available (Sedrick Ellis). Ryan has to be the ultimate goal though.

9. CINCINNATI BENGALS

SEDRICK ELLIS DT | USC | Scouting Report
Whether or not Ellis will fall this far remains to be seen but if he did this would be a slam-dunk for the Bengals. Marvin Lewis is said to like Derrick Harvey but Antwan Odom was signed to replace Justin Smith at defensive end. However, they do still need some help inside next to Domata Peko and Ellis would be a perfect fit. If Ellis is gone, which is very possible, the Bengals may turn their attention to Keith Rivers because Landon Johnson bolted and both Caleb Miller and Lemar Marshall are still unsigned. There has also been some speculation that Ryan Clady could come into play here as well since Willie Anderson is getting up there in years and Levi Jones has battled some injuries. If you are looking for a potential surprise keep an eye on Rashard Mendenhall. Rudi Johnson appears to be wearing down and Marvin Lewis may want to shift the focus of their offense to more of a power running game since their big play threat Chris Henry's already gone and Chad Johnson may be following him out the door sometime in the near future.

10. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

LEODIS MCKELVIN CB | Troy | Scouting Report
There are reports that the Saints are looking to deal up for a shot at either Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis so that is something to watch out for but since I generally don't project trades in my mock those guys aren't options. I am a little reluctant to put a cornerback here because in the past year they have invested big free agent dollars on Jason David and Randall Gay, not to mention a 3rd round pick on Usama Young, but all indications are that is indeed the direction they will look if they stand pat at #10. Leodis McKelvin is the top corner on most team's draft boards, not to mention a fantastic return man, and he could easily come off the board earlier than this so from a value and need perspective it makes sense. Keith Rivers will also be an option for the Saints here but if they can make a deal to land a stud defensive tackle that would be ideal.

11. BUFFALO BILLS

DEVIN THOMAS WR | Michigan St. | Scouting Report
For a while many had Malcolm Kelly going here but after his disasterous workout he isn't in the running anymore, at least not in round one. Instead the Bills opt for the guy who seems to be emerging as the consensus #1 wide receiver in the draft. Devin Thomas may have been a one year wonder in college but at 6-2 and 216 lbs. with 4.40 speed he has everything that you could ask for physically, not to mention more upside than any other wideout available. Thomas is also the type who excels at taking a short pass and turning it into a big gain which makes him an ideal fit for the Bills offense. Buffalo also needs to find a cornerback to start opposite Terrence McGee because after Nate Clements left as a free agent they dropped all the way to 29th in the league against the pass, so Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie might be an option for them as well.

12. DENVER BRONCOS

CHRIS WILLIAMS OT | Vanderbilt | Scouting Report
With the somewhat unexpected retirement of Matt Lepsis the Broncos now have some question marks along their offensive line. Granted they did draft Ryan Harris in the third round just a year ago and Mike Shanahan feels like Chris Kuper has the ability to play left tackle as well but the health and development of Jay Cutler is too important to be taking any chances. Ryan Clady could be a fit as well but Williams hails from the same college program as Cutler so the organization may have some familiarity there. A great athlete with terrific intelligence, Williams would be an ideal fit for the Broncos zone blocking scheme. The Broncos greatest need is, of course, defensive tackle but a guy like Kentwan Balmer would qualify as a pretty significant reach here. A real darkhorse could be Rashard Mendenhall, who they brought in for an pre-draft official visit.

13. CAROLINA PANTHERS

RYAN CLADY OT | Boise St. | Scouting Report
Even though the Panthers were able to find a way to keep both Jordan Gross and Travelle Wharton, who were free agents, there's still a need at left tackle since the plan is to move Wharton inside to left guard. This is really a dream scenario for the Panthers because Ryan Clady is the guy they covet and while he could be gone by this point you can rest assured he won't fall any further than this. If Clady is gone they could turn their attention to Branden Albert or Chris Williams. Carolina is also said to have their eye on Derrick Harvey, although they did sign Tyler Brayton and used a 3rd round pick a year ago on Charles Johnson... Rashard Mendenhall might also be an option and he'd help bring back the power running game they had so much success with during the Stephen Davis era but every indication seems to point to this being a left tackle.

14. CHICAGO BEARS

JEFF OTAH OT | Pittsburgh | Scouting Report
It will likely be offense, offense and more offense for Chicago in the draft this year and they will probably start with some help in the trenches. With his ability to play either left tackle or guard Branden Albert might be the best fit for Chicago but since he's gone they opt for a physical mauler in Jeff Otah. There is some talk that they'd like to bring in a left tackle and then move John Tait to the right side and if that is indeed the case then Chris Williams just might be their man here. Otah is the more highly-regarded prospect of the two though and he would be a nice replacement for Fred Miller while helping to bring back that power running game the Bears have come to be known for. Some have speculated that Chicago might take Rashard Mendenhall but I do not see that happening. For all of his troubles the Bears still have a lot invested in Cedric Benson and if they don't do something to drastically upgrade their offensive line it won't matter who the running back is. The bottom line is this will be an offensive tackle, one way or another.

15. DETROIT LIONS

JEROD MAYO ILB | Tennessee | Scouting Report
I think most mocks drafts you see will have Rashard Mendenhall here and that's a very strong possibility because after releasing Kevin Jones the Lions have a glaring hole at running back. However, Rod Marinelli's doing things his way these days and what he wants more than anything is a middle linebacker for his Tampa 2 defense. The speedy, athletic Jerod Mayo would be a perfect fit for Detroit's scheme which is why I've had him going to them in round two for a long time now but his stock has risen to the point where if they want him they will have to pull the trigger in round one. Would this be a slight reach? Probably, but not as much as you might think. As I said you can certainly make a very strong case for Mendenhall here as well and the Lions are also said to have a lot of interest in Derrick Harvey but at the end of the day you need to look at the personality of the people in charge and that leads me to believe they will covet Mr. Mayo.

16. ARIZONA CARDINALS

RASHARD MENDENHALL RB | Illinois | Scouting Report
The Cardinals desperately need a cornerback but there is enough depth that they should be able to find one in round two because Mendenhall is simply too good to pass up at this point. Edgerrin James has a lot of miles on his tires and appears to be winding down so Ken Whisenhunt is in the market for another running back to help execute his power rushing attack. Mendenhall could easily come off the board much earlier than this but if he gets past Detroit I don't see the Cardinals passing on him. With that said corners like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Mike Jenkins or even Aqib Talib will draw consideration here as well and with Antrel Rolle moving to safety that is undoubtedly their most pressing need but something tells me that Mendenhall is just what the doctor ordered for the Cardinal's offense and they would take him in a heartbeat.

17. MINNESOTA VIKINGS

PHILLIP MERLING DE | Clemson | Scouting Report
After addressing their needs at wide receiver (Bernard Berrian) and safety (Madieu Williams) in free agency defensive end now sticks out like a sore thumb on the Vikes list of needs. In fact, Minnesota was in the market for a top pass rusher even before it was revealed that Kenechi Udeze would likely miss at least the 2008 season while he battles leukemia so after striking out on free agents like Justin Smith and Antwan Odom they'll have to rely on the draft to fill that hole. At one time it looked like Phillip Merling might be gone by this point but some injuries that have prevented him from working out and now he could fall all the way to the end of round one. Minnesota is desperate though so with Derrick Harvey off the board they pull the trigger on Merling, even if he isn't necessarily be the type of elite pass rusher that they're looking for. It's hard to envision the Vikings going in any other direction than defensive end with this choice but the other possibility would be offensive tackle, where Ryan Cook has yet to establish himself as a reliable NFL starter.

18. HOUSTON TEXANS

KEITH RIVERS OLB | USC | Scouting Report
The Texans are hoping a left tackle falls to them, with Chris Williams being the most likely possibility, but right now it doesn't appear as though that's going to happen. I was awfully tempted to put a cornerback here and there are indications that may be Plan B if all the top blockers are off the board but Dunta Robinson should come back eventually, they signed Jacques Reeves to a huge free agent deal and they also still have Fred Bennett. Last year nobody envisioned Houston selecting Amobi Okoye but when he fell into their laps they determined he was just too valuable to pass up and that might be the case with Keith Rivers. Morlon Greenwood is okay but certainly not special and while Chaun Thompson was brought in he is more or less just a career backup. Rivers is exactly the type of fast, athletic linebacker that Gary Kubiak saw all those years while he was with the Broncos and teaming him with DeMeco Ryans will certainly upgrade their defensive front seven. With that said offensive tackle is the first order of business, possibly followed by a corner.

19. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

DOMINIQUE RODGERS-CROMARTIE CB | Tennessee St. | Scouting Report
Philly would prefer to land an offensive lineman in round one since Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan are getting older and Jeff Otah may be atop their wish list but he will be gone by this point so unless they want to either reach for a Gosder Cherilus or make a trade to move up they'll probably be out of luck. Even before the signing of Asante Samuel there were rumors circulating that Lito Sheppard was on the trading block and it now looks like a virtual certainty that he will be dealt, which means the Eagles will need to bring in another cornerback. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has as much upside as any cover guy in the '08 Draft and after the shows he put on at both the Senior Bowl and the Scouting Combine he could very easily be gone long before this, maybe as early as the Top 10 overall. The Iggles have also been bringing in a lot of wide receivers for visits but they are looking for a proven veteran rather than a youngster who will take time to develop.

20. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

MIKE JENKINS CB | South Florida | Scouting Report
Last year everyone assumed that Calvin Johnson was destined to be a Buccaneer but instead they opted to provide Monte Kiffin with some defensive help and we may have a similar situation this year, even though most seem to feel Tampa is destined to select a wide receiver here. Everybody's talking about Leodis McKelvin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Aqib Talib but Mike Jenkins is just going about his business and sailing through the draft process with flying colors. Jenkins is a legit Top 20 pick and he could even be gone by this point, with Philly also a potential landing spot for him. You certainly can't rule out a receiver here and both Devin Thomas and DeSean Jackson would be perfect fits for Jon Gruden's offense because they're capable of taking a short pass and turning them into a long gains. Tampa Bay has also been sniffing around some of the offensive tackles but there is basically very little chance of any of those top guys lasting this long.

21. WASHINGTON REDSKINS

CALAIS CAMPBELL DE | Miami (FL) | Scouting Report
You would have thought that a poor junior season and forty times in the 5.0 range would have dropped Campbell out of the first round but it appears as though teams are giving him the benefit of the doubt and are still very much intrigued by his rare size (6-7, 290 lbs). The Redskins are in the market for a defensive end to eventually replace Phillip Daniels, who is 35-years-old, and Washington would be a good fit for Campbell because their defensive line coach, John Palermo, held that same title at Miami back in 2006 when he registered 20.5 TFL and 10.5 sacks. With Joe Gibbs now gone Daniel Snyder most likely has a little more pull than he did the past couple of years so he might push to make a splash with this pick. If that's the case a big wide receiver like Devin Thomas or Limas Sweed may become options to compliment to Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El, who are both under 5-10. Don't rule out a defensive tackle like Kentwan Balmer either.

22. DALLAS COWBOYS (f/CLE)

AQIB TALIB CB | Kansas | Scouting Report
After losing nickel back Jacques Reeves, who actually started 13 games for them last year, as a free agent the Cowboys already precarious depth situation has now reached critical levels. At the very least Dallas needs a youngster who can come in and play big minutes as a reserve right away before eventually supplanting Anthony Henry as a starter. Aqib Talib could fall a bit now that reports about his three failed drug tests have surfaced but Jerry Jones has shown time and time again that he is not afraid to take a chance on guys with character issues and Talib has the ability to be an impact playmaker in the secondary. If their long-rumored trade for Pacman Jones is finally completed the Cowboys would likely turn their attention to either Felix Jones or a wide receiver here but for the time being cornerback is without question their most critical need and Talib is the last of the consensus first round cover guys so that is the direction Dallas goes.

23. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

GOSDER CHERILUS OT | Boston College | Scouting Report
The Steelers have always been able to hang their hat on a dominant offensive line but they could be preparing to undergo a significant changing of the guard up front. Free agent All-Pro guard Alan Faneca is gone while their left tackle Marvel Smith has battled some injuries in recent years and has just one more year left on his contract so Pittsburgh will probably be in the market for the best offensive lineman available. For a while there Branden Albert seemed like the logical pick but now that it's clear he'll be long gone the Steelers will have to shift their attention elsewhere. Gosder Cherilus struggled at times as a senior in '07 but he was playing out of position at left tackle so that must be factored into the equation. Make no mistake about it Gosder has what it takes to be an excellent right tackle in the pros and bringing him into the fold would allow them to move Willie Colon inside to guard, his natural position. Ben Roethlisberger has campaigned for a big wide receiver and Cedrick Wilson was released so do not rule out Limas Sweed here either.

24. TENNESSEE TITANS

LIMAS SWEED WR | Texas | Scouting Report
Despite investing draft picks on Brandon Jones, Roydell Williams, Paul Williams and Chris Davis in recent years the Titans still have some big question marks at receiver and they simply must give Vince Young some weapons to throw to. If not for a wrist injury Limas Sweed might have been a Top 10-15 pick and he could still come off the board much earlier than this but if he is available it seems like a match made in NFL Draft Heaven. An added bonus is that Sweed and Young should have some built-in chemistry since they were Longhorn teammates. DeSean Jackson could be an option too if Sweed is gone or in case they'd prefer someone with more speed. After losing Antwan Odom, Randy Starks and Travis LaBoy in free agency their defensive line will need to be addressed as well and if that's the direction they want to go Phillip Merling, Calais Campbell and Kentwan Balmer are possibilities. Sweed makes too much sense to put anyone else here though.

25. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

JONATHAN STEWART RB | Oregon | Scouting Report
It sure looks as though Shaun Alexander may never regain his MVP form and while Maurice Morris is a decent backup the running game got so bad in Seattle last year that Mike Holmgren all but admitted that he gave up on it at one point. Granted they did sign Julius Jones but he's not a star by any stretch of the imagination and adding Jonathan Stewart to the mix would give Seattle a terrific one-two punch. Stewart's stock is dropping a bit because he recently underwent surgery for a turf toe injury that will sideline him for the summer but he should be ready for training camp and at this point he'd be a great value pick. Stewart is also a local product who played both his high school and college ball in the Pacific Northwest so this would sure appear to be a natural fit. The Seahawks could also use a tight end or an offensive lineman and they might be intrigued by Kentwan Balmer here as well but if Stewart is still available he would probably be their choice.

26. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

KENTWAN BALMER DT | North Carolina | Scouting Report
Most have a defensive end going here and I did too for a while but when you really examine the Jaguars roster it's pretty clear that they have a greater need inside at tackle. After dealing away Marcus Stroud the cupboard is pretty bare opposite John Henderson (unless you're a member of the Jimmy Kennedy fan club) so while a Phillip Merling, Calais Campbell or Lawrence Jackson would certainly make a lot of sense I think they will go with Kentwan Balmer. Somewhat of an underachiever early in his college career Balmer really emerged as a senior and is now the clear-cut consensus #3 defensive tackle available. There is a chance Balmer could be gone by this point but if he's still available he would be a great fit for the Jags. Other than that Jacksonville's roster is in terrific shape so it looks like this will be a defensive lineman, the only question is which one.

27. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS

BRANDON FLOWERS CB | Virginia Tech | Scouting Report
Looking at their depth chart it is somewhat difficult to pinpoint many glaring needs for the Chargers. Difficult but not impossible. Right tackle is definitely a concern and Gosder Cherilus would be a perfect fit for them if he lasted this long, but the odds of that happening seem to be getting worse by the day. After losing Drayton Florence as a free agent the Chargers will need to bring in some depth in the secondary and apparently they really like Brandon Flowers. Despite his lack of size and timed speed many still regard Flowers as a potential late first round pick and his physical style of play should make him a nice fit for San Diego's defense behind Quentin Jammer and Antonio Cromartie. Also keep in mind that the Chargers do not have either a 2nd or a 3rd round pick right now due to past trades so they will almost certainly be looking to deal and move down.

28. DALLAS COWBOYS

FELIX JONES RB | Arkansas | Scouting Report
With two first round picks the Cowboys could feel like they are playing with house money to a degree and while everyone assumes that Arkansas alumnus Jerry Jones wants Darren McFadden he might have to settle for another Hog running back. Julius Jones signed with the Seahawks as a unrestricted free agent and Felix Jones would be a perfect replacement, providing some lightning to Marion Barber's thunder. Felix was also an All-American kick returner in college so that would be an added bonus. Depending on what they do with their first pick both wide receiver (DeSean Jackson) or defensive back could be possibilities here as well and don't rule out them trading this pick for a future #1 either. Ultimately I have a hard time believing Dallas would pass on Felix Jones twice so regardless of whether it's at #22 or #28 I expect him to be a Cowboy on April 26.

29. SAN FRANCISCO 49'ERS (f/IND)

DESEAN JACKSON WR | California | Scouting Report
It's a kick in the teeth to be picking this low after such an awful season but at least Joe Staley looks like he's going to be a good left tackle for them. The Niners could go in a number of different directions with this choice but even though they brought in Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson this offseason their greatest need is still at wide receiver, where they lack a difference maker. DeSean Jackson isn't very big but he is arguably the most dynamic playmaker in this draft and can be a dangerous weapon on both offense as well as special teams. He may never be a true #1 wideout in the pros but put him in the slot and you could really have something. The 49'ers could also use some help along the offensive line, a pass rusher at outside linebacker and a defensive end. However, this is the year that is either going to make or break Alex Smith so it only makes sense to give him and new offensive coordinator Mike Martz some weapons to work with and the local product Jackson is probably too good for them to take a pass on this late in the first round.

30. GREEN BAY PACKERS

ANTOINE CASON CB | Arizona | Scouting Report

Al Harris and Charles Woodson are one of the better starting cornerback combos in the league but to say the Packers have little or no depth behind them would be an understatement. Depending on who you speak to Antoine Cason would either be a good value or a major reach here but there are plenty of teams that have stamped a first round grade on him. Cason won the Jim Thorpe award winner as the nation's premier defensive back in '07 and while his speed is just average he is a playmaker with top-notch intangibles. Other cornerbacks who could be possibilities here include Brandon Flowers and Justin King. Don't rule out Kenny Phillips at safety either. With both Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher getting older and battling some injuries the Cheeseheads might be in the market for an offensive tackle like Sam Baker or Duane Brown too. Green Bay may also look to trade down and accumulate more picks since that's been Ted Thompson's M.O. in the draft the past few years. Is this the area teams target to move up for Brian Brohm or Joe Flacco?

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Selection forfeited as part of punishment for violating league rules.

31. NEW YORK GIANTS

KENNY PHILLIPS S | Miami (FL) | Scouting Report
The secondary is a big issue for the Giants so they may just be looking for the best defensive back available here. Sammy Knight was brought in to replace Gibril Wilson, who left as a free agent, but he is just a stop-gap and even though Michael Johnson showed some potential as a rookie he also blew too many assignments and can't be considered a long-term starter at this point. Kenny Phillips did not have the type of big junior year most were expecting but he is still an excellent prospect with all the tools you look for and he'll help carry on the Canes tradition of sending top safeties such as Bennie Blades, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor and Brandon Meriweather to the pros. A linebacker like Jerod Mayo or Dan Connor could be considered here as well and they may opt to take advantage of what should be some excellent value at cornerback right around this point in late round one and early round two. Keep an eye on Tyrell Johnson too, his stock's really soaring.

ROUND TWO

32. MIAMI DOLPHINS

Curtis Lofton ILB | Oklahoma | Scouting Report
Zach Thomas was sent packing so the Dolphins will need a thumper like this inside in their 3-4.

33. ST. LOUIS RAMS

Sam Baker OT | USC | Scouting Report
Orlando Pace played in just 9 games the past two seasons combined so they need insurance.

34. ATLANTA FALCONS (f/OAK)

Brian Brohm QB | Louisville | Scouting Report
If they don't get Matt Ryan in round one this is the guy that they'll probably be targeting later.

35. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Lawrence Jackson DE | USC | Scouting Report
It looks like Jared Allen will be traded which means they're going to need another pass rusher.

36. NEW YORK JETS

James Hardy WR | Indiana | Scouting Report
The big wideout they need and at over 6-5 with 4.51 speed he is quite the physical specimen.

37. ATLANTA FALCONS

Duane Brown OT | Virginia Tech | Scouting Report
Wayne Gandy is finished and you could make a case for o-line being their greatest weakness.

38. BALTIMORE RAVENS

Justin King CB | Penn St. | Scouting Report
Chris McAlister has battled some injuries and Samari Rolle does not have much left in the tank.

39. SAN FRANCISCO 49'ERS

Quentin Groves DE | Auburn | Scouting Report
Great athlete and one of the top pure pass rushers available to play opposite Manny Lawson.

40. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Dan Connor ILB | Penn St. | Scouting Report
Scott Shanle is decent but not special and this is really an outstanding value pick at this point.

41. BUFFALO BILLS

Dustin Keller TE | Purdue | Scouting Report
The Bills must give their passing game a shot in the arm and this guy is a nice receiving threat.

42. DENVER BRONCOS

Trevor Laws DT | Notre Dame | Scouting Report
Defensive tackle has been a big problem for years so they go back to the well one more time.

43. CAROLINA PANTHERS

Tyrell Johnson S | Arkansas St. | Scouting Report
It looks like Chris Harris is the real deal but they'll still have to find an upgrade alongside him.

44. CHICAGO BEARS

Joe Flacco QB | Delaware | Scouting Report
Has all of the physical tools that you look for including a big-time arm to cut through that wind.

45. DETROIT LIONS

Ray Rice RB | Rutgers | Scouting Report
If they pass on Rashard Mendenhall in round one they'd be lucky to land this guy in round two.

46. CINCINNATI BENGALS

Jordy Nelson WR | Kansas St. | Scouting Report
Chris Henry is gone and Chad Johnson has one foot out the door so they will need a wideout.

47. MINNESOTA VIKINGS

DaJuan Morgan S | North Carolina St. | Scouting Report
Darren Sharper isn't getting any younger and there really isn't much safety depth to speak of.

48. ATLANTA FALCONS (f/HOU)

Patrick Lee CB | Auburn | Scouting Report
Now that DeAngelo Hall has been dealt Atlanta has yet another big hold they have to address.

49. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Eddie Royal WR | Virginia Tech | Scouting Report
A wideout's needed but perhaps more importantly this guy can also help as a return specialist.

50 ARIZONA CARDINALS

Charles Godfrey CB | Iowa | Scouting Report
Cornerback's without question their #1 need and this would be a good value pick at this point.

51. WASHINGTON REDSKINS

Malcolm Kelly WR | Oklahoma | Scouting Report
The big target they're looking for to compliment smurfs Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El.

52. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Donnie Avery WR | Houston | Scouting Report
Joey Galloway is still productive but they will probably need to bring in a top young playmaker.

53. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Tyvon Branch CB | Connecticut | Scouting Report
Mike Tomlin is a former DB coach so you know he would love a talented young guy to develop.

54. TENNESSEE TITANS

Dre Moore DT | Maryland | Scouting Report
Randy Starks bolted as a free agent so at the very least their depth inside needs replenishing.

55. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Martellus Bennett TE | Texas A&M | Scouting Report
Marcus Pollard was merely a stop-gap and this guy is a fantastic athlete with a lot of potential.

56. GREEN BAY PACKERS (f/CLE)

John Carlson TE | Notre Dame | Scouting Report

Bubba Franks was a cap casualty so they will be searching for someone to backup Donald Lee.

57. MIAMI DOLPHINS (f/SD)

Chad Henne QB | Michigan | Scouting Report
John Beck and Josh McCown are far from established and word is the Phins really like this guy.

58. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Cliff Avril DE | Purdue | Scouting Report
Exactly the type of speedy pass rusher the Jags are looking for to help replace Bobby McCray.

59. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Chris Johnson RB | East Carolina | Scouting Report
A backup is needed behind Addai and this guy is versatile and the fastest player in this draft.

60. GREEN BAY PACKERS

Oniel Cousins OT | U.T.E.P. | Scouting Report

Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher are getting older and this guy is nice developmental prospect.

61. DALLAS COWBOYS

Early Doucet WR | L.S.U. | Scouting Report
Terry Glenn's nearing the end of his career so it's probably time to bring in a young playmaker.

62. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Tracy Porter CB | Indiana | Scouting Report
A playmaker in the secondary and the Pats will need to find a good young corner pretty early.

63. NEW YORK GIANTS

Xavier Adibi OLB | Virginia Tech | Scouting Report
Kawika Mitchell left in free agency and the jury is still out on the Mathias Kiwanuka experiment.

ROUND THREE

64. MIAMI DOLPHINS

Jason Jones DE | Eastern Michigan | Scouting Report
"The Tuna" wants defense and this guy will be a prototypical 5-technique for their 3-4 scheme.

65. ST. LOUIS RAMS

Mario Manningham WR | Michigan | Scouting Report
With Isaac Bruce gone they are perilously thin at wideout behind Torry Holt and Drew Bennett.

66. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Orlando Scandrick CB | Boise St. | Scouting Report
They desperately need an infusion of top talent at cornerback and this guy's been a late riser.

67. CAROLINA PANTHERS (f/NYJ)

Marcus Harrison DT | Arkansas | Scouting Report
With Kris Jenkins now gone they will have to bring in some depth on the interior of their d-line.

68. ATLANTA FALCONS

Tavares Gooden OLB | Miami (FL) | Scouting Report
Demorrio Williams left as a free agent and this guy can provide some depth inside and outside.

69. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (f/OAK)

Beau Bell ILB | UNLV | Scouting Report
Classic thumper in the middle to add depth and groom as Tedy Bruschi's eventual replacement.

70. CHICAGO BEARS (f/SF)

Jamaal Charles RB | Texas | Scouting Report
They need offensive playmakers and this guy is lightning fast and will compliment Benson well.

71. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (f/BAL/BUF)

Chilo Rachal OG | USC | Scouting Report
They are always looking for offensive linemen and guy has a ton of talent for them to develop.

72. BUFFALO BILLS

Reggie Smith S | Oklahoma | Scouting Report
When Nate Clements left as a free agent last year it left a big hole alongside Terrence McGee.

73. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (f/DEN)

Fred Davis TE | USC | Scouting Report
Visanthe Shiancoe didn't live up to expectations so this gives them another good pass catcher.

74. CAROLINA PANTHERS

Matt Forté RB | Tulane | Scouting Report
DeShaun Foster was sent packing so they need some thunder to DeAngelo Williams lightning.

75. SAN FRANCISCO 49'ERS (f/CHI)

Jacob Hester FB | L.S.U. | Scouting Report
Versatile all-around offensive weapon with the type of top-notch intangibles Mike Nolan loves.

76. DETROIT LIONS

Chris Ellis DE | Virginia Tech | Scouting Report
Rod Marinelli has been searching for a stud 4-3 defensive end to play opposite Dwayne White.

77. CINCINNATI BENGALS

Shawn Crable OLB | Michigan | Scouting Report
Some linebacker depth is needed and this guy may be a nice fit in Mike Zimmer's new defense.

78. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Jeremy Zuttah C | Rutgers | Scouting Report
Real athletic, versatile blocker to potentially replace free agent defection Jeff Faine in the pivot.

79. HOUSTON TEXANS

Antwaun Molden CB | Eastern Kentucky | Scouting Report
There is still some doubt as to when Dunta Robinson will be back so another corner is needed.

80. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Josh Barrett S | Arizona St. | Scouting Report
Brian Dawkins isn't getting any younger and Sean Considine has not yet proven he's a starter.

81 ARIZONA CARDINALS

Andre Caldwell WR | Florida | Scouting Report
Bryant Johnson's now gone so the Cards need a pass catacher with speed to stretch the field.

82. MINNESOTA VIKINGS

André Woodson QB | Kentucky | Scouting Report
Tarvaris Jackson has struggled so they are most likely in the market for a developmental type.

83. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Pat Sims DT | Auburn | Scouting Report
Very talented former underachiever who can be their best defensive tackle since Warren Sapp.

84. WASHINGTON REDSKINS

Thomas DeCoud S | California | Scouting Report
With the unfortunate death of Sean Taylor they now have a major hole at the safety position.

85. TENNESSEE TITANS

Jeremy Thompson DE | Wake Forest | Scouting Report
Antwan Odom & Travis LaBoy bolted as free agents so at the absolute least depth is needed.

86. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Anthony Collins OT | Kansas | Scouting Report
Walter Jones isn't getting any younger so it's time to begin grooming a backup / replacement.

87. DETROIT LIONS (f/CLE)

Mike McGlynn OG | Pittsburgh | Scouting Report
Damian Woody left in free agency and this is the type of versatile, nasty blocker they need.

88. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Jerome Simpson WR | Coastal Carolina | Scouting Report
Ben Roethlisberger wants a "big" receiver and this guy would fit in well with Ward and Holmes.

89. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Tom Zbikowski S | Notre Dame | Scouting Report
Sammy Knight is gone so they bring in Zibby to provide some depth and help on special teams.

90. CHICAGO BEARS (f/SD)

Earl Bennett WR | Vanderbilt | Scouting Report
Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd? Yea, they really need to bring in some help at wide receiver.

91. GREEN BAY PACKERS

Erin Henderson OLB | Maryland | Scouting Report

Linebacker may not be a big need for them but they could definitely stand to add some depth.

92. DALLAS COWBOYS

Ahtyba Rubin DT | Iowa St. | Scouting Report
Jason Ferguson was dealt away so they could probably use a top young nose tackle to groom.

93. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Jordon Dizon OLB | Colorado | Scouting Report
They need to add some depth at linebacker and Indy doesn't care about his lack of ideal size.

94. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

John Greco OG | Toledo | Scouting Report
The Giants schooled their offensive line in the Super Bowl so it is time to bring in competition.

95. NEW YORK GIANTS

Roy Schuening OG | Oregon St. | Scouting Report
Offensive line depth is needed and this is the type of nasty mauler that Tom Coughlin will love.

96. WASHINGTON REDSKINS (comp)

Brad Cottam TE | Tennessee | Scouting Report
Chris Cooley isn't really a traditional tight end and this gives them a terrific all-around backup.

97. CINCINNATI BENGALS (comp)

Dexter Jackson WR | Appalachian St. | Scouting Report
A explosive big play threat who will also be a key contributer on special teams as a return guy.

98. ATLANTA FALCONS (comp)

Carl Nicks OT | Nebraska | Scouting Report
Has some character concerns but based on talent few can match his blend of size / athleticism.

99. BALTIMORE RAVENS (comp)

Kevin Smith RB | Central Florida | Scouting Report
Willis McGahee had a nice 2007 season but they need to bring in a reliable backup behind him.

I would be thrilled if this draft worked out this way for us. I wouldn't think Flowers would go before Cason does though. Hopefully he does. I wouldn't mind TE Fred Davis at #56 instead of John Carlson either, but I suppose I'd be happy either way. I'd hate to see Davis go to a division rival though...

I'm seeing more and more mocks with Cason available when GB picks. I'd fully endorse the pick, but I have somewhere of a history being a terrible curse on guys I endorse so I'm holding off

Tight End | Senior | Notre Dame John Carlson
Height: 6-47/8 | Weight: 255 | 40-Time: 4.72

Official Bio

Strengths:

Terrific natural athlete...Has very good size and a big frame with long arms...Runs excellent routes and know how to get open...Has soft, reliable hands...Has shown the ability to stretch the field vertically...Runs well after the catch...Good ball skills and body control...Above average blocker...Very smart...A hard worker and leader.

Weaknesses:

Timed speed is relatively average and he lacks a burst...Needs to get stronger...Is not overly elusive or much of a big play threat...Could stand to show more power and use better leverage as a blocker...Is coming off of a sub par senior campaign.

Notes:

Was also a superb basketball player coming out of high school and even earned a monogram with the Irish basketball team in 2003..Played behind Anthony Fasano, a future 2nd round pick of the Dallas Cowboys, early in his career...

Played in a pro style offense in college...

Voted a team captain as a senior...

Brings a nice blend of physical tools and intangibles to the table...Will not be confused for Antonio Gates any time soon but he is a great all-around tight end who should be a NFL starter.

Offensive Tackle | Senior | U.T.E.P. Oniel Cousins
Height: 6-33/4 | Weight: 308 | 40-Time: 5.11

Official Bio

Strengths:

Extremely athletic...Very quick and agile...Light on his feet and slides well...Mobile with good range...Has long arms with some size potential...Flexible and a natural knee bender..Offers some versatility...He's still improving and has a ton of upside.

Weaknesses:

Size and bulk are just average...Needs to get stronger...Uses poor leverage...Not overly physical...May lack a nasty demeanor and killer instinct..Doesn't get a great push...Questionable instincts and awareness...Still needs a lot of technique work.

Notes:

Nickname is "Tate"...Could also project to guard at the next level...

Born in Jamaica and didn't start playing football until his sophomore year in high school..

Began his college career as a defensive tackle and just moved to the offensive line in '05...

A better athlete than football player at this point and was benched in '06...Made big strides as a senior and saw his draft stock soar but is still a workout warrior...

Will likely be taken earlier than he should be based more on potential than production.

Outside Linebacker | Junior | Maryland Erin Henderson
Height: 6-23/4 | Weight: 244 | 40-Time: 4.73

Official Bio

Strengths:

Has good size and bulk...Real aggressive and plays with a nasty demeanor..Great instincts and awareness...Has decent range and does a nice job in pursuit...A big hitter and reliable tackler...Very good change of direction skills...Can hold his own in zone coverage...Versatile...Hard worker...Excellent intangibles...Nice bloodlines.

Weaknesses:

Has battled a number of injuries in college and durability is a huge concern...Plays too tall...Has trouble taking on and shedding blockers...Does not have elite speed or athleticism and looks stiff...Has to get stronger..Lacks fluid hips and has trouble matching up in coverage...Is not overly stout at the point...Upside may be limited.

Notes:

Brother, E.J., was a two-time consensus All-American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year ( 2001-02 ) who won the Butkus and Bednarik awards while at Maryland and currently plays for the Minnesota Vikings..

He actually began his college career as a quarterback....Redshirted in '04 and then missed the entire '05 season after tearing his left ACL...

Projects outside in a 4-3 defense or inside in a 3-4..

Not quite the prospect his brother was coming out of college but he's a real good all-around 'backer who will be an above average NFL starter as long as he can stay healthy.

I agree with that as well. But I am on the bandwagon that someone is gonna trade up for one of the 2 QB's, most likely Flacco....Kiper & McShay talked about it on espnradio last night that someoen will try to move up into the end of round 1 or beginning of round 2.....and there sits Ted Thompson. Swap a 1 for a future 1 & their #2...I'm all about that. Give me 3 2nd round picks and a future #1.

All I can say is I sure hope it doesn't go down like this mock draft.

Missing out on all the really good Corners; Getting a TE who IMO isn't as good as Fred Davis, and whose best case scenario is NFL mediocrity; Gettting in the 2nd round a OT that I honestly haven't of, but a position I've heard isn't deep this year; Getting a LB--which we don't need--who lacks speed and coverage ability and is probably getting by on his brother's reputation.

I'm confident Thompson will do better.

I disagree. Not being a homer here at all either, cause I don't think Carlson is the top TE in the draft, but I rank Davis #4 at the TE's. Davis is easily the worst blocking TE in the draft, which scares me because of the fact our TE's are very important in our entire scheme. The one thing people don't think of when it comes to the draft, is just drafting the best player they see. Carlson & Martellus Bennett fit what we do offensively. Both are solid blockers, both can somewhat stretch the middle of the field, but are best off with corner routes, out routes, shallow digs, and quick stops. My biggest gut feeling is that #1, we won't be drafting Fred Davis, and #2, don't expect anything you expect to happen.

I was listening to espn radio this morning, and they said the Falcons are "very high" on taking Flacco with their 2nd round pick, but might want to move up ahead of Miami, because they fear they're taking them as well. Weather it's true or not, you gotta believe if it's true, Ted Thompson would be on that quickly. Don't trust the mock drafts that have Flacco going mid-2nd to late 2nd. Right now his stock is soaring, and they are even referring to it as "Flacco Fever".

I semi agree
i think Cason would be a fine corner, and besides who else would you rather have? IMO corner needs to be adressed in the first 2 rounds. I agree that the TE isnt a good pick, rather get someone like keller, bennett, or davis would seem better. And i dont think we need to draft a LB this high, With the signing of chillar id give it untill next year to decide if hes doing a good enough job.
I would really rather see Chilo rachal than cousins be the pick, because rachal is a natural guard.

Don't worry. It won't. Statistically, these mocks are good for around - max - the first fifteen picks or so. Then it's katy-bar-the-door. Espcecially when Ted is in there, drafting linebackers from Northeastern New Mexico Tech in the second round.

Agree that mock drafts aren't good for much past teh top 10-15 picks.
This mock draft is off IMO.
For some reason I'm skeptical of OAK taking McFadden and Chris Long sliding to 6.
From what I've heard, I do think Cason would be a good pick for GB, but the other picks were head scratchers. I've stopped trying to guess what TT will do, although I have opinions of what he should do.

Official Bio

Strengths: (Not bad)

Very good size and bulk with long arms...A terrific natural athlete...Excellent timed speed with a burst to close...Has quick feet...Able to flip his hips and run with just about anyone...Is very self-assured with a short memory...Offers some versatility.

Weaknesses: (Not much here to recommend this fella as a first rounder.)

Not as physical as he should be...Too aggressive at times and can be fooled...He lacks great awareness...Average hands and ball skills...Does not get a very good jam at the line...Too confident and undisciplined...Doesn't play to his measurables.

Notes:

Began his college career at Toledo ('04) where he saw action in 13 games at both corner and safety as a freshman...

Transferred down a level in '05 looking for more playing time...Also ran track at EKU...

A bit of a Workout Warrior who does not play as well as he tests..

An intriguing small school sleeper with ideal triangle numbers.

Gives pretty good effort as a blocker...

Very smart...Might be able to contribute as a return man...Hard worker...Top intangibles...Productive.

Just average athleticism...Not a blazer and could have trouble separating from pro corners...

Is not very quick or explosive and lacks a burst..

Not much of a vertical or big play threat...

He is not overly elusive..Upside at the next level might be limited.

Notes:

Really burst onto the scene as a true freshman in '05 and quickly emerged as Jay Cutler's favorite target..A three-year starter in the SEC...

check this mock out and see if anyone can spot something odd

http://www.scoutsnotebook.com/modules.php?name=mockdraft0708

draft ace has him rated as the 33rd best CB in the draft, and a 25 out of 100 rating

yet this mock has us taking him in the first

of course i could see TT doing this

Scouts has us taking this fella Bryan Kehl SLB- BYU with our (today) second pick in round two.

Official Bio

Strengths:

Adequate size and bulk...Decent athleticism and good timed speed...Is active with nice range...Excellent instincts and awareness...Has a great motor and plays with a lot of energy...Does a nice job in space...Can hold his own in coverage...Capable of delivering the big hit...Hard worker..Smart and mature with premier intangibles.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't really play up to his workout numbers...Has trouble shedding blocks...Just an average tackler...Can be too aggressive at times..He doesn't play with a nasty demeanor...Marginal pass rusher...A little overaged...May not have a lot of upside.

Notes:

Older brothers, Ed and Brandon, also played for Brigham Young...
Served a Church mission in Toronto, Canada...

A pretty good all-around player whose physical tools are passable and gets pushed over the top by doing all the little things...

Probably not starting material but can make a roster & contribute..

Backup / Special Teamer.
