FAVRE TO BE THE MADDEN COVER BOY
Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2008, 4:42 p.m.

Somewhere, John Madden is smiling. And eating. While smiling.

Madden’s long-time football I-just-wish-I-could-quit-you guy, Brett Favre, will adorn the cover of the Madden 2009 video game, according to SportsBusiness Daily.

So what will the potential Madden jinx be for a guy who won’t be playing football in 2008? (We’re not asking it rhetorically — we’re giving you guys an opener for some creative and/or smart-alecky comments.)

SportsBusiness Daily is reporting that Brett Favre will be the cover athlete for the upcoming "Madden NFL 09," video game.

The game, which is set for an early August release, will be the 20th installment for the video game.

Favre is expected to appear on CBS' "Late Night" tonight to make the official announcement.

Interesting. So was that cover that was floating around before a fake? Cause it certainly looked like a WR then. I don't believe there has ever been a retired player on the cover. Maybe the Madden guys can actually fix the gameplay this year.

Wait a minute, if he is on the cover, doesn't he have to be in the game?

Dear Gawd - I can see it all now.

Brett goes fly fishing, and his fishing buddy hooks him. Then Brett falls off his lawn tractor and breaks a leg. He heals, and goes hunting with Cheney, and...well, you know.

The curse is so strong that it’s causing guys to retire weeks into the future. Well played Madden, well played…

For some of us... he'll always be 'in the game'.

The curse will "curse" Brett by allowing the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl one year removed from his retirement!!!

This is the right move by EA..We all had a feeling it could happen...Favre should have been on it a long time ago..But at least there's no Madden Curse to worry about.

This is a great choice. Madden could never live with himself if his curse struck Favre. This protects everyone and suckers everyone like me who wasn't even considering buying it into now wanting too.

kind of a crappy picture. i had hopes for a mid gun-sling, him reaching way back to fire the ball. or a celebration pose

Well, technically, John Madden would count as the first and only one so far.

I'm prolly gonna reserve a copy and wait for it for a couple hours until about 11 PM like I did for the '05 version 8-)

Gotta get the "FAVRE MADDEN" game as soon as Gamestop does :D

I'm wondering if this means that Favre will be incorporated into the game commentary somehow where he is bantering with Madden. That would be sweet.

Awww, Madden gets to have his boy toy on the cover for the last Hurrah. Never known a bigger man crush on a single player that compares to the way Madden used to talk about Brett.

The only sad part now is that I will no longer have a chance to smash Brett and the Packers on madden 09...lol :P

Madden will no longer be made for PC's though.

Although, the last PC version was VERY crappy.

Sorry to hear that. My grandfather died of Leukemia but that didn't stop a certain shit for brains here at this very forum to make a joke of the disease. Some people are either idiots or assholes when it comes to this sort of thing. I'm guessing the yahoo author is an idiot.

Holy Crap....Favre is playable on Madden 09!!!!!! He starts on the NFL Greats team and you can sign him to the Packers on Franchise mode. Also, I read that you can choose a celebration in the end zone, including a Lambeau Leap!!!!!!!!

The funniest thing about this is if favre plays for another team in '08, he'll be on the madden cover with his packer uniform but in the game he'll be in another teams uniform. Makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time!

Well if you never plug your system into a network, then he'll be a Packer for ever right?

Right? Can I just do this in RL too?

I wonder if Favre does come back and gets traded, if the EA team will change the cover before the release date.

just the promotional covers (it comes out aug 13th or around there)

There is no way they change the cover now, they probably have most of them made already.

whats your point?

Hearing anything about Favre and 'no retirement'? Brett Favre won't stay retired from the NFL for 2008.

Maybe you should check when I posted what I did. April 24th, you know, back when Favre was still retired and before he pulled all this shit.
