Brett Favre repeated today that he has retired from pro football but admitted to TV host David Letterman that as the Packers’ training camp gets close, “something’s bound to happen.”

Dressed in jeans, a button-down shirt and a tan blazer for a taping of CBS' "Late Show" to be broadcast tonight, Favre was evasive when Letterman asked what he meant by the comment.

“I don’t know,” Favre said. “Did I just say that?”

“You just said ‘something’s bound to happen,’ so this makes me think you’re not retired,” Letterman said.

“Butterflies, so – I don’t know, something’s bound to happen,” Favre said.

When Favre said he wouldn’t miss minicamps, Letterman asked him if he would be interested in playing if adjustments could be made for his summer training schedule.

“Can you get that worked?” Favre asked.

“Yes, yes, I can. I can take care of that,” Letterman replied, and the audience laughed and applauded.

But the conversation then focused on Favre’s successor Aaron Rodgers (“I think he’ll do well:” Favre) and the impact of Favre’s retirement on Green Bay.

“But you, you’re not only the heart and soul of football, but my God, what have you, you’ve turned that town upside down,” Letterman said. “What is Green Bay doing? I heard they’re shutting down the town. I heard they’re closing up and they’re moving to Michigan.”

Letterman used the occasion of Favre’s visit to hold up a case of the new EA Sports Madden ’90 Xbox 360 game, with Favre on the cover.”

Maybe and I say maybe he has told Green Bay he is coming back, but they are waiting until after the draft to use leverage.

If he is not coming back he has to quit saying this crap. You cannot keep saying maybe and what ifs and wait unitl training camp.

If he does wait and then decides I am not sure Thompson would want him back.

The way he's talking it sure sounds like in his mind he hasn't fully retired. "Something is bound to happen" - what does that mean? He's bound to have a case of jock itch come July?

I agree. I know Favre has never been one to hold back, but unless he is coming back and has already told TT and MM he needs to stop this. All this does is draw attention to himself and further fan the flames.

The yellowish blazer is a good color on him. He'll have to get used to it.

As far as the constant talk about whether he is coming back - I don't see the fault as being with Brett. I see it more as media and fans who want to parse everything the man says to see if they can make it sound like he's sending a secret message, and if we only had our decoder rings, we would know what's in his head.

The man retired from a game he loves after putting his heart and soul into it for 18 years. He's bound to have second thoughts and miss it some. Being Favre, he doesn't NOT say that, so when he talks about how he'll miss it in the fall, people want to take it as meaning something.

When he said something was bound to happen, I think he just meant that he would feel something when the season starts. That's normal, but I don't see how you can take that as meaning he's coming back.
