What's everybody been up to in life lately?

I'm in the process of moving to an apartment with a few of my friends in Bayview. School is wrapping up, and the lady will be back home from Florida in two weeks for a month before moving down to Chicago.

Other than that, not too much new is going on here. I'm thinking about signing up to be an assistant little league coach/organizer for the summer. I miss those days.

I don't think the YMCA starts its leagues until the middle of May. I'm gonna have a lot of free time this summer and need something to do for like a night or two during the week.

What have I been up to lately?

Well, I just ran 5 miles around my community because I thought my Dad was hit by a car while riding his bike.

Apart from that, things have been fine.

Be sure to take the tram up to the top of the Sandia Mountains while you are in Albuquerque. It is quite an experience and view from the top.

They even have a restaurant at the top if you want to linger and take in the view.

I built an integrated tube amp which I've been quietly designing for the last year or so. It's very sophisticated for a DIY amplifier and I'm extremely proud of how its turned out. Its got that power and old tube sound that I love with some very modern features such as digital volume and IR control. I even use the embedded controller to monitor the vacuum tubes and automatically adjust currents which greatly extends their life.

I think I'll start designing some speakers in the near future.

Yeah the preamp section is composed of 2 12AX7's and 4 6SN7's. I guess you might call it a "line conditioner" instead of a preamp because I did not include a phono section. I might design a phono section if I build an amp for my Dad but I really have no use for one.

Do you have an interest in tube audio?

Tell your son's coach to bat your son 8th, considering he's the pitcher and all. Say that you saw Ned Yost do it and it's working out great. :D

But, yeah, there is strategy.

#5 and #6 hitters should be able to drive in RBIs and have a high on base percentage. Also, the #5 hitter should be able to protect the #4 hitter, meaning that the pitcher isn't going to walk the #4 to get to the #5 hitter.

#7 and #8 are guys that aren't expected to light the world on fire, but they should still be able to produce. However, expectations are usually low when it gets to this part of the order.

But, since it's little league there isn't going to be as much strategy as you would see in high school, NCAA, or MLB. It all depends on the coach. If he's just a dad doing it for fun he's probably just going straight down the order with his best hitters. If he played baseball than maybe he'll think about it more carefully.

Also, I support the idea of beaning the first batter. Nothing strikes fear like a baseball-sized bruise to the thigh.

Bretsky
05-08-2008, 10:50 PM
I sent my coaching strategy to you regarding batting order via PM because I don't want to share all that brilliance on here.....plus maybe I sent you naughty things too

Of course, when I coached I was all about winning and my teams did whatever it took to win at whatever level I coached. Not sure how serious the teams are where your son plays. Still remember a parent letting me know he wanted to give his son a chance to pitch.......and I remarked only if he gives us the best chance to win. He commented he didn't expect to win every game and it's all about the kids having fun. I looked him in the eye.....as a 17 year old and let him know I do expect to win every game.....and the kids will have fun and part of that is making sure we succeed.

I didn't see eye to eye with that volunteer assistant. But the team went undefeated the kids had a ball

Oregon,
this is my second trip to Abq, and we will definitly take the tram (taking wife and kids this time). last trip was in 2000, the tram opened a little late due to winds, but was worth the wait!

Had a drink at the restaraunt (High Finance I thnk), bought a round for six guys and think it cost about $70.00 !!

Not sure if we had this conversation before. I live right next to Batavia in Geneva. It a great area with St. Charles, Geneva, and Batavia. The area has a lot of charm with an old town feel with lots of good restaurants and things to do. The area strivea to keep the old town look. The fox river is beautiful. I think they are the best suburbs in Chicagoland, and between my wife and I we have lived in several. It's amazing what some of these old homes sell for.

wow, catcher. It's funny....I don't know a lot about baseball. I never liked watching baseball games on TV.....but I love watching the kids play. To me catcher and pitcher position seems to be the most stressful.

I don't even know....is there some kind of ranking for the positions that are most important? I know some are obvious....but just wondering.

imo

In Little League usually the Pitcher and Shortstop are the most important followed by the other infield positions and then outfield.

Kids knees are strong and can take abuse. I'm guessing here but people who play catcher past little league might take fish oil tablets (omega 3)to help their joints cope with playing the catcher position.

If you son does make it to state and beyond I have some advice. Make sure he goes to sleep at a reasonable time the night before his game. When I went to Stevens Point for the state games my entire team was overly excited about getting out of town and staying in a hotel. We all stayed up all night talking and didn't play well the next day.

I made it to the all stars as a catcher.

That phrase brought back memories to me with a smile. My younger daughter ended up at catcher for her 5th grade softball team several years ago.

That year, Oregon had an unusually warm spring/early summer. Because it was so "hot" wearing all the protective equipment of helmet/facemask, chest protector, skin guards, my daughter was the only girl "tough enough" to play catcher. None of the other girls wanted to play the position.

She didn't always trap all the low pitches or make the most accurate throws to second base but she was willing to play catcher for the rest of the season. The team manager was glad to have her.

Games are on! :D So far won 1 and lost 1.....but the big game is Thur night, best team in the tourney. After tonights win I think the kids got the mojo going on.

I'm not sure if I should make my daughter stay home from this game. She will either inspire them or distract them....lol Seems about 4 from the team are hot for her. We traveled tonight and a bunch of the boys went together in the coaches Suburban. All the way home she was getting calls on her cell (# provided by her little bro, who got reamed on at home by her.) :D ...who do you think is the best pitcher, who do you think is the best looking..... boys got those hormones working OT. :P

I don't get it? I was saying I was more physically mature then the others and a pretty good player. Then, everyone else caught up and I wasn't on the all-star teams anymore :(

I remember All-Star team.

I hit a HR in the top of the 9th to tie the game and keep it going.

I then proceeded in the bottom of the 9th to trip on a sprinkler head while going for a fly ball, losing the game for the team and knocking us out of contention.

Good times. :D

You may be the only one that remembers the home run.

Shades of Superbowl XXII.
