I love chasing Beaver.

I just hope he doesn't end up with the Vikings.
Announcers saying "Booty hands off to Beaver", a picture with a caption of "Booty and Beaver" "Booty behind Beaver" on the practice field, etc. would be more than I could take with a straight face. Caption writers for newspapers would have to be very, very careful!

Gotta be a big thrill for the kid. Hope he does well with his less than 1% chance of making the roster.

The big knock on this guy is that he is short (5'7"). How much of a problem is that for a RB? Other than being a small target as a receiver (especially past the line), is it really anything to worry about?

What college is that,Badgerinmaine? I thought Oregon State was the only college with the Beavers as the nickname. Yeah, we get a lot of sophomoric jokes on the west coast, as well.

The OSU Beavers have the colors of black and organge. What are your colors?

I teach at the University of Maine at Farmington:

If you click on the news links and go down to the March 28 entry, you'll see me.

Our school colors are maroon and white, and we compete in Division III:

I know CalTech is also the Beavers, and I think Reedsburg High School in Wisconsin is, too.

While some people would like us to change our name, I say it's perfect: we are clever, hardworking woodland creatures who do amazing things with no money.
:D
And as our health club's T-shirts say, "nothing's sweeter than a healthy beaver".

I've watched some video. I'm rooting for the guy, but I just don't see it. He's a hell of an athlete, but this is pro football. When a guy is 5'7" and 191 and played DIII, he has to have jaw dropping skills. He's just not quite there. Hopefully, he's good enough to bring to camp, but only if he deserves it. That would be a great achievement.

Reminds me when NDSU had a hometown, DII All-American RB named Tony Satter. This was the late 80s when NDSU was winning a DII championship every other year. I think he got drafted or signed by the Giants, and I thought he had a chance to make an NFL roster. He was in training camps, but I don't think he ever made an NFL roster.

Funny. I remember this run in the 1990 DII Championship Game. I think it was against Portland State. Gotta love youtube.

I hope he's good enough to sign a contract with GB and then let the cards fall as they may

PACK EXPECTED TO SIGN FOUR OF THE !( TRYOUT PLAYERS............

McCarthy said he "would love" to seen Wisconsin-Whitewater RB Justin Beaver be one of those players "because he's been impressive." McCarthy said Beaver was one of the players he and the front office would discuss this evening.

"(Hodge) went out to Arizona and did some rehab before he came back to the offseason program," McCarthy said. "He really looks good."

Notebook: Beaver impresses McCarthy

It sounds like Mike McCarthy is going to make a push to keep Justin Beaver, the diminutive running back from the University of Wis.-Whitewater.

The Green Bay Packers coach on Sunday said no decisions have been made on the 19 players the team had in this weekend for tryouts, but it likely will sign four of them to the 80-man offseason roster.

The 5-foot-7 Beaver, who won the Division III equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, got plenty of work during the weekend rookie orientation camp and opened some eyes.

"I'll tell you what, he's been very impressive," McCarthy said. "He's done a very nice job. He plays with a lot of energy. He's very quick (and) explosive. Does he have a shot? That's something we'll discuss when we get upstairs, but I would love for him to have an opportunity, because he's been very impressive."

The Packers didn't draft a running back and signed only one undrafted rookie back — Kregg Lumpkin of Georgia. They had one other running back in for a tryout — Lance Ball of Maryland.

"I definitely believe in myself, and a big reason for that is we ran the same offense in college," Beaver said. "We ran the zone (rushing) offense in college, and I can use what I learned in college."

A decision on which players will be offered contracts could come in the next day or two.

"I spent some time with the personnel department just going through a number of guys," McCarthy said. "(Director of pro personnel) Reggie McKenzie is meeting with the tryout players right now. We'll make some decisions. We're looking to bring back approximately four of them."

Wait...conflcting reports...Has there been a premature evacuation of the Beaver?

Justin Beaver plays waiting game (http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/ic/blogs/insider/2008/05/beaver-on-hold.html)
"One of his Madison-based agents, Tim Valentyn, said on Monday that the Packers told him they have offered contracts to three tryout players and have one more to offer."

Beaver wants more action.
