A few days ago, officials claimed six sea lions were shot below the Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River which serves as a border between Oregon and Washington. Sea Lions have been feasting on migrating salmon whose numbers are dwindling significantly.
Red-faced officials now admit the sea lions were NOT shot! Autopsies of the wounds to the back of the neck were not the result of gunshot wounds. Unconfirmed reports speculate the wounds were the result of the captured sea lions turning on each other.
Since the alleged shooting, all efforts to capture and/or relocate the sea lions to zoos or exhibits were suspended. The remaining sea lions have gone right back to devouring whatever salmon are remaining.
