According to ESPN.com, the Packers will have $4,076,190 to sign their rookies. That ranks 19th out of 32 teams. The Kansas City Chiefs, with 12 picks including two in the first half of the first round, had the highest pool with $8.22 million.

The Packers' number is on the low side because they traded their first-round pick. Their top pick was receiver Jordy Nelson, a second-round selection and No. 36 overall. Nelson likely will receive similar money to last year's 36th overall pick, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb, who signed a four-year, $3.59 million contract. Most of Kolb's bonus money came in the second year in the form of a $1.24 million option bonus. He received a $300,000 signing bonus and a $343,500 roster bonus as a rookie. The Packers may not necessarily structure Nelson's deal the same way, but the amount of guaranteed money should be similar.

In 2006, when the Packers had 12 picks (including No. 5 overall) they had the highest rookie salary pool of $6.647 million.

The rookie salary pool is the amount of salary-cap space for this season that a team can use to sign their draft picks and undrafted rookie free agents.

The Packers new negotiator ought to have an easy time signing rookies this year even though the rookie cap is small. No 1st round pick makes it much cheaper.
