I just switched to a LCD monitor today after my CRT died on me after 8 years... I cannot look at the screen longer than 20 minutes because it hurts my eyes and I start to get headaches...

I tried adjusting the brightness and resolutions and stuff but I don't know if its because its new or do all LCD monitors do this???

I'm thinking about returning it and trying to find another CRT monitor but I don't know if going through all the hassle is worth it...

Question for those computer savvy people : Why is it hard to find CRT monitors in stores now a days when they still have better refresh rates then LCD monitors... I don't get the logic behind "LCD's are better" yet they have less refresh rates which I think is the problem in my case... I think I am to use to such a smooth monitor, and switching to this LCD (with lower resfresh rates) is making my head/eyes go crazy...

Right click on your desktop, go to Properties then Settings then Advanced and you should be able to adjust the refresh rate from there.

Do you buy the cheap ass LCD?

It only goes to 75 Hertz...

My CRT went to 100 Hertz...

Its this monitor right here...

Looks like a decent monitor. Maybe one of the video game geeks around here might be able to help you out.

I used to get headaches from LCDs that had a high response time. Something with the ghosting or something.

A lot of people get headaches from a high pixel density when they're close to the monitor.

What is the resolution? Also, is it hooked up through DVI? Are you in a well-lit room?

Make sure you're using the default resolution and have it hooked up DVI if possible. Leave the refresh at default. LCD's dont have the 3 color guns running like a CRT.

19" wide should be 1440x900.

yup its hooked up to DVI and the settings are 1440x900.

The room is not that bright (don't know if that has any effect on an LCD)...

My eyes are a lot better right now then when I first posted the original, but it is still nothing like a CRT... CRT was so crystal clear for me (minus headaches/ eye strains)...

actually... the room is pretty dark...

^ does this play a big role with LCDs?

For some people it does. I keep a small flexy arm lamp behind my monitor. Makes a difference some days.

It has nothing to do with the monitor, but it can cause a ton of eye strain. A bright light source in a poorly lit room is awful for your eyes.

thanks guys for all the feedback... I put a light-source next to my monitor and my eyes feel a lot better today...

I guess it just took a little time getting used to...

Once again... Thanks to everyone that responded...

One other thing you might want to look for is a button, or setting somewhere that differentiates brightness for text settings and game/graphic settings, sometimes being in game settings is very bright and hard on the eyes.
