View Full Version : I think competition between the two will be good for GB

Yup, Gafford and Jansen battling it out to replace the retired Rob Davis should be interesting and result in a talented, young snapper making the team for years to come. Both seem to have very good potential. For no particular reason, I have a feeling it will be Jansen. If Sherman were still GM, we might keep both!
(Doesn't seem to be anything else to discuss right now, so I thought I would bring this up!)

Do any of them play other postitions? A number of teams seem to take that into consideration when choosing a long-snapper.

Very few, actually. Some are listed as tight ends, or even fullbacks, but have no career receptions or no career carries. By and large it is a specialty position now days, just like punter and kicker.
To answer your question, I believe both are considered specialists only. Jansen did nothing else at ND to my recollection. Just long snapping.

Wait a minute. You mean this thread isn't about Favre/Rodgers?

If we don't have enough controversy re: Favre and Rodgers, Patler has to stir up controversy about the long snapper position! :)

I heard a rumor that Rob Davis wants to come back.

That came from his 'agent', who is probably losing his commission. Last I heard, the Packers had "no comment". :P

Mama Davis said Rob felt the Packers didn't want him. Ted came to visit Rob in May, but didn't beg him to come long snap again. This sucks because the Vikings are a long snapper away from the Super Bowl!

I was shocked when I read the title. You got me.
Favre and Rodgers cannot be on the same team. One of them has to go.
Rodgers has said as much in an interview in the last month. When asked if Favre might come back this year he answered, "Maybe, but not with Green Bay." That implies to me he had been briefed by Thompson, or McCarthy speaking for Thompson, that it was not going to happen... before the recent event. Would Rodgers give an answer like that on his own? I don't think so.
It's impossible. It would be an emotional, managerial, morale disaster.
Worse than if we'd added Randy Moss last year. Far worse.

I'm trying to refrain from these quotes, but they are just so damned tempting.

I'm a little slow on the uptake, but I finally got it. Like "I hope you have a big trunk, cuz I'm gonna put my bike in it" from '40 year old virgin'...

You know, when I first saw the title of this thread I thought Patler was talking about Ryan and DeBauchie...

The long snapper battle will be much more exciting! I can't wait for this to get underway. I expect the reporters will be charting and timing every snap.

Kenny will be a decent punter I would think. He was pretty damn good at Wisconsin.
