I was born the same day Albert Einstein died, 04/18/1955.

I'm not sure though exactly how old I am. The last thing I remember is sitting on my bed reading about the 1967 Israeli war in Life Magazine. Everything else since then seems like a dream.

I'm benign as you can see below with my bird watching gear in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas this February :

I am forty now; and, after all, forty is an entire lifetime; why it’s extreme old age. It’s rude to live past forty, it’s indecent, immoral! Who lives more than forty years? Answer sincerely, honestly. I’ll tell you who: only fools and rascals. I’ll tell that to those old men right to their faces, all those venerable old men, all those silver-haired and sweet smelling old men! I have a right to say it because I will live to sixty. I’ll make it to seventy! Even to eighty! Wait! Let me catch my breath…………..

I think my liver is diseased.

59.

I'm not the oldest, but I'm close.

In December, I went to Lambeau to see the Pack play the Lions in the last regular season game. It marked my 50th season attending a Packer game. Went to my first game in'57. I was 8. Thought it was cool Bulldog took his eight year old boy to the Championship. That's what my daddy did for me. Well, he took me to see the 49er game at County Stadium. We lost 24 - 14.

Wow. People's attention was probably distracted for a couple days. I was in third grade at the time and I'm still numb from the events.

James Thurber used to say he was born on a night of "wild portent and high wind".

I believe he could have been told the second part, but I doubt anyone mentioned the first. He probably added that later.

Hi Folks, Cleft Crusty here. I had my summer check-up (I always do before I saddle up the wife on the Harley for a month of summer fun touring all the old or abandoned football stadiums in the Midwest). The Doc confirmed I am 68, my liver is 92, my heart is 105, my gall bladder 86, and my 'best friend' is deceased. But with the array of prescription medications I take, I feel like a 50 year old young buck - except when my ulcer or lumbago act up.

Do you like XXXX? I like their commercials.

Have you seen the Once in a Lifetime Fan Videos on YouTube??

Lol im from sydney. Not a fan of AFL, more rugby league in NSW/QLD. I dont think tooheys is sponsoring anyone atm, hate XXXX never seen the videos ill check em out.

Good thing you are from the opposite coast. Women like foreigners for some reason.

I hear you about XXXX. I liked an old XXXX comercial, "I feel a four X coming on."

I have a great time with Aussies and enjoyed every time I've been there. Glad to see you on the board.

I got a quarter century on you in age but who really keeps track.

There is always room for another Packer fan.

I cannot believe the time I just spent trying to remember what that bit of code meant. Thanks for the distraction Ty.

Ty is 0x2a.

Welcome.

Hex rules!!!!!

What is Hex

How many years

twice the legal drinking age

So I guess I'm 0x2a + 8 (what is that in "Hex"?)

32...see, hex is great..you are back in your early 30s!

Ty, I surely don't know or understand Hex, but Fosco said 0x2a was twice the legal drinking age (which I figured would be 42)... Then add 8 years to that makes me 50 and a card carrying AARP guy!

I kinda' wish I was back in my early 30's though!!

32 in hex (should've been written 0x32) is indeed 50 HF!

Hex may be for dorks..but, when you were still sucking your mom's teat some of us had to know it to create the web.

Wow. Ty created the web. Probably working directly with Al Gore. Tell us Ty, are ya in on the ground floor of The Grid, too?

39, but 0x27 sounds a lot better.

They should make knowing hex a requirement for getting on the internet, just like Morris Code is (or was) for getting a ham radio license.

I would try to explain the difference between the web and the internet, but i don't think you are capable.

P.S. No matter how many times the right repeats the canard, that isn't what gore said. Nor did he say anything that could be construed as that.

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."

The terms "create" and "invent" have have distinctly different meanings - the former is used in the sense of "to bring about" or "to bring into existence" while the latter is generally used to signify the first instance of someone's thinking up or implementing an idea.

Or should we just lampoon our current president when he "creates" new jobs. Surely he must mean he "invented" those jobs.

But, i'm sure this is more "nuance."

What am i suppose to be getting...sub in "took the initiative in bringing into existence" the internet.

Simple enough for you.

If President Eisenhower had said in the mid-1960s that he, while president, "created" the Interstate Highway System, we would not have seen dozens and dozens editorials lampooning him for claiming he "invented" the concept of highways or implying that he personally went out and dug ditches across the country to help build the roadway. Everyone would have understood that Ike meant he was a driving force behind the legislation that created the highway system, and this was the very same concept Al Gore was expressing about himself with his Internet statement.

P.S. You might not know the difference, but i guarantee gore was aware of the difference tween the internet and arpanet.

P.P.S. don't let your opinion of me blind you...you are only going to look more stupid.

At the risk of getting this thread moved, the quote used to lampoon Gore is "invent". As in "When Al Gore invented the internet...."

What he said was actually quite different in meaning. The Senate and House had to act to allow sale and access of this network for private use. They created a network that had not existed before. Even Gingrich acknowledged this at the time, and gave credit to Gore.

Gore's inability to find a way to communicate this quite remarkable achievement with clarity explains much of his failure as a candidate for President.

None of this will ever change the legend, just like other quotes mis-attributed to people simply refuse to disappear. But it doesn't make it a fact.

Pretty much what i said...minus the gore and clarity part..which, i think is/was pretty well established.

Create and invent are two distinct words. Only an idiot or a smart political operative would confuse the two.
