That's a very interesting article and quite true. People worry about how they will be perceived in these types of situations, but having been involved in a situation where an elderly woman fell on her face crossing the street to the grocery store, there were people who stopped to help her. Was it because the first person came to her aid or because we all are somehow above the type of behavior expressed in the story? I'd like to think it was the latter, but I don't know...

These are classic examples of "I didn't want to get involved."

It was interesting to note that the writer defined a "hero" as someone who finally took actions while others just impassively stood by.
