There is speculation that Favre would not show up if he was traded to the Bucs or Jets. The Bucs and Jets knowing that Favre will not show up don't want to give a high pick in a trade. Why not trade him to the Jets for a 7th rd pick, and if he doesn't show up the only thing the Jets lose is a lousy 7th rd pick. This could force Favre to retire, like Jake "the snake" did when trade to the Bucs, and once he's traded he's no longer packer property. The flip side is that Favre could show up and have a good year and piss off Packer fans because all TT got was a 7th rd pick. Either way this Favre Soap Opera will end, and save $20 million bucks.

And why would the Jets do that?

Because...the Jets will trade Favre to the Vikings for a 2nd round pick unless you put in a stipulation that they can't trade Favre anywhere else. If you put that stipulation in there, there is no incentive for the Jets to do the deal.

Trading Favre for a 7th round pick would also be embarrassing. The guy got an MVP vote last year, and all you can get for him is a 7th round pick?

I'm guessing the Packers would eventually reach the point where that might be acceptable, but it wouldn't be at this point.

Such stipulations aren't legal under NFL contracts. Teams could do a "gentleman's agreement" to cover what you just said, but it's non-binding.

So that makes this a moot point.....

So, even more reason why you don't trade Favre's rights for a 7th round pick. He's worth far more than that. Only a dumbass desperate GM would trade Favre for a 7th.

True, but there is a small chance he would just retire for good, If he takes his time thinking about it or the Jets turn around and trade him Favre would have a harder time being effective for this season.
