OL may be shitty, but a lot of rodgers sacks are because he's hanging on too long too, gotta get that ball out

I'm thinking Rodgers should start the third.. No point. Rodgers doesn't need to prove anything, and they way our line is playing it'd be too big a risk of injury.

Also, last week taught us that Brohm and Flynn need the reps.

Fritz

Junius! Get your azz out there, son! Show em how to block.

Brohm
08-16-2008, 09:43 PM
If Spitz is our best guard then why not just keep him in at RG, stick Colledge back at LG and go with the line we had last year until Barbre or Sitton beats someone out. I understand if Wells is out having Spitz at center, but otherwise wth is up with the total disregard for continuity?

I'll say one thing for Rodgers. Favre would of gave up a touchdown by now.Thats for sure.

Typical homer BS. Your super hero Rodgers has looked like total shit and the only thing you can do is rip on Favre. I agree that the blocking hasn't been great but then again anyone who has actually WATCHED the Packers since this whole guard debacle started in 2005 knows that Favre has made the OL look pretty good even when everyone (accept obviously those holding Aaron Rodgers jock strap) knew they weren't. Good QB's have a way of doing that where as inexperienced ones do not. Your super hero stepped out of bounds a yard SHORT of the first down marker, Favre in the same position would have picked it up.

We were taking bets on how long it would be before some idiot threw up a stupid comment like this. I didn't even bother to read back any farther because only one person said it would be before half, me. Get over yourselves, the Packers look like shit right now, they are NOT playing well at all and that INCLUDES Aaron Rodgers. Saying anything negative in comparision about Favre just shows how stupid you really are about the game. He isn't our QB anymore, OUR QB has sucked ass so far and THAT is what you MORONS should be talking about. Unfortunately all you can do is try to shift the focus off of where it needs to be, ON THE PACKERS.

Please read again:

"in the same position would have picked it up." Meaning if he was running for the first down (by the way he did on occasion), HE WOULD HAVE PICKED IT UP AND NOT STEPPED THE FAK OUT OF BOUNDS A YARD SHORT. So if you are going to be comparing Rodgers to Favre, BRING IT because this isn't about Favre and ANY comparision right now is doing NOTHING but trying to shift the focus off of a complete and total debacle by the PACKERS.

Sometimes announcers are just morons. End of the first half, one of the San Fran announcers said Rodgers needed to have got his team a td - then the announcer said he knew that a Packer receiver dropped a td pass earlier in the first half, but Rodgers still needed to get his team a touchdown.

WTF? Does he want Rodgers to throw it, run down the field, and catch it too?

Rodgers played worse as the night went along. Looked fine early then got more hesitant. Until the near pick, he still looked respectable and his outing would have been fine to that point if Driver and Lee hang on to catchable balls. Esp. Lee's near TD.

The worrisome part is after that, his play deteriorated, they got more pressure and he started holding the ball like David Carr back there. On the near INT, he watched Driver the whole way and led the safety right to the throw.

McCarthy also lost his cool in the 2nd quarter when he pushed/moved someone away from him. While he was talking to someone else or into the headset. He completely abandoned the run early. If we are this dependent on Jennings and Grant, then we might want to employ a faith healer rather than Ari Fleischer.

Didn't Mike Nolan used to wear a shirt and tie on the sideline?

He wore one at all home games last year. Started doing it as a tribute to his father in 2006, back then they allowed it for two games because of marketing promises to Reebok. Then they made it more regular and he could wear it all season. Jack Del Rio did it as well.

I can't say for certain if Mike is doing it again this year, but I hope it does. It's damn classy and miles better than Belichick's hobo garb.

Yep, no one stayed deep outside.

We also had a blown coverage underneath before the Jarret Bush pass interference call just a little bit ago. Hodge (or MLB) and DB both covered the RB crossing the middle.

No one dropped into the deep middle which let a WR right into the end zone free and clear between both safeties. If not overthrown, its a TD.

Some of you are out "Collinsing" Collins. Shut up. Who gives a heck whether someone wanted Favre or not?!? The fact is he's gone, its irritating, and you both look like Collins.

In any case, after last year's Seattle game I thought we would have a really good team. Perhaps it was the Bigby wildman blitzes and crazy sacks, but I thought our offense would be good enough to score points and our defense would be good enough to get a critical stop.

This year, the same week, I feel the exact opposite. I feel like we're going to be a bad team. Unfortunately, this turn of events is not unheard of (see the Chicago Bears of 2007), and would be really unfortunate. Hopefully that does not happen, but in the event that it does we all know who is going to get all the blame - just or not.

It's not excuses. It's a team game. Part of the team struggled mightily, and other parts of the team suffered for it. Favre would have been sacked at least once or twice with the performance on the line tonight also. 0.8 seconds isn't very long.

What I don't get, is if we are not going to even bother trying to run the ball, why change up positions of one of the best pass-blocking units (with BF). And I mentioned Farve as I do expect Rodgers to get smacked around a bit more till he develops a better pocket presence.

Hell put Colledge back at LG and Spitz at RG, call it a day and get back to getting the offense runnning.

MM post game(JSO):

"I think they were more physical than we were," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I need to get that fixed. I did not have the team prepared. We will get that done this week."

I like him...he takes the blame much of the time, deserved or not.

At first I agreed - yet players should be ready; could be sign of trouble that McCarthy takes blame. Still MM is classy and has broad shoulders. Remember - it's been a draining training camp till Lord Favre left. Are we paying the price now? Something tells me we are (gut feeling).

mmmdk, I was wondering the same thing after the game last night. You just wonder how much of a distraction the Favre scenario had overall on the team.

Another thing that is bothering me is our lack of running the ball. I know he wants to get Rodgers as many reps as possible but you can't forget about your run game, either. Since we are passing almost every play, teams know that and can be better prepared with their defense. But..how is he really going to get a good look at the back up RB's? On the same note, I know he needs to look at our back up QB's, too, so I guess it's a wash.

I suppose I need to just stop all the "what if" scenarios and just write this off as a shitty PS game and that we'll bounce back against Denver.

It sure makes this Denver game a lot more meaningful.

Even if it was a regular season game, its just one stinker. Packers had 2 last year and both came against the Bears. Teams all have bad games. It just happens.

One thing that gave me a bad case of deja vu was the major miscommunication in the secondary that lead to the 2nd Niner TD. Didn't we have problems with that last year, too? I hope Shott is donating half his paycheck to Woodson and Harris...without them, perhaps he doesn't have a job.

Yikes; sounds like the Sanders Nottenheimer combo was in rare form again :(

Sportscenter had a clock "time in the pocket" for AR. He never had more than 2 seconds.

One of the plays, he had .8 seconds before he was sacked.

I saw that segment of Sportscenter. The plays they timed were his sacks and times he got hit. I've seen JSO say he was too hesitant in the pocket and held the ball too long on other plays. And, is it true that Rodgers had a scramble where he had room to run on 3rd and 4 but instead of running for the first down he ran out of bounds after gaining 3 yards?

He had room to get three without being hit or diving ahead. And that's what he did by going out of bounds. But he could have gotten the first down if he was willing to risk taking a good shot.

The game did suck last night, but maybe this is the right time to get thumped in most facets of the game. It might light a fire under the back-sides of many of the players and they actually might show up in Denver and put up a good performance instead of the egg they laid in San Fran. It'll be interesting to see how they respond. With so many guys down with camp injuries that are being protected, the result from last night is not shocking. Hard to have continuity, tempo and rhythm when things are not really like the regular season, especially personnel-wise. I say the Packers bounce back.
