My New Companion

I have been witness to a miraculous phenomena the past 4 days that has me wondering about the nature of the world, not sure if it is physics or metaphysics.

A modest bowel movement lodged itself in the outflow of my toilet on Tuesday, about half of it remains visible. The odd thing is that it is wedged in its hole, peeking out, yet does not impede the flushing of additional waste.

I suppose an uncurious person would just take a plunger to it and be rid of the scoundrel. But how different really is a weed from a flower? I've sort of grown attached to the little fella, I admire his tenacity, seeing him every morning has become something of a comfort.

But how is this possible? Brownie has survived 20, 30 flushes, hasn't budged a millimeter. He doesn't decompose, the water stays clear, and there is zero odor, or even I, the most confirmed of bachelors, would have taken action. All I can say is, "you're doing a heck of a job, Brownie."

Why did Brownie come into my life? How does he manage to hang on, neither in nor out, sharing both worlds of shadow and light?

Some day I know this is going to have to end, I will have a guest who will never understand my new friend.

Brownie succombed at 10:15 this morning. I looked back after flushing and he was gone. I'm not as sad as I thought I would be, guess I prefer to celebrate our short time together.
