Yeah, I'm in for a 9-7 record. When I agree quickly, I'm always wrong. So that will probably be the case this season.

I won't do the game-by-game but my season's prediction is 10-6.

I think the Packers will win the NFC-North, get a bye for the first round of the playoffs, but lose their first actual playoff game.

Nota Bene: You play the games; that's why NY Giants are champs. Not the Cheaters, Cowgirls, Chargers, Colts or the surprise Packers. Why is that hard to fathom? Granted, it's kinda silly to predict game by game but you woulda thunk Da Bears would win at Lambeau last season? Not me! You never really know for sure.

8-8 or 9-7 is my guess. We can't stop the run. We apply very little pressure. Sanders is'nt gonna change.

Rodgers will be in-consistent like all 1st year starters. He'll look great one week and struggle the next. Nothing beats game experience. In a couple of years he'll be a top 5 QB.

Our o-line has been juggled way to much. One thing the line needs is continuity and due to injuries and coaching confusion, they have not had it. You just can't go out there and TURN A SWITCH ON ONCE THE SEASON STARTS.

I look around the NFC and I don't see any dominant teams. I don't even see any in the whole NFL. It's too bad TT didn't make a couple moves to shore this team up or they could steal one like NY did last year.

Dallas looks like the best in the NFC, now that NY lost Umenyiora.

Because the NFC is so weak I say 12-6 and they lose at Dallas in the NFC Championship Game.

9-7. Wild Card hunt. Possible one playoff win if its not a road dome. Don't like the 1st year QB starter in road domes. But I will be fighting non-stop about the Rat grousing and media kvetching about the Packers and their road dome misery coming back. Favre's troubles and what I expect to be Rodgers troubles are from the same source initially, road domes are louder and tougher than outdoor games.

But neither the Vikings nor the Lions are as good as they were in the early 90s (I expect the Vikes defense to age fast) so Rodgers trouble won't be as prolonged. Should we lose the opener to the Vikes and then lose to the Cowboys, both at home, there will a ton of pressure on the team for the Rat game!

I am being a downer, and thats what I do win I look at the schedule. I think the Packers win one against either the Cowboys at home or Indy at home, unfortunately just looking at the schedule I don't see a win.

The Saints are supposed to rebound from last year, but they could easily be the same old crappy Saints. If they were playing them at Lambeau I would mark it as a win, but I just see a loss there right now.

Jaquars are just too good on defense, and the Packers always seem to struggle against the Tampa defense as well, especially in Tampa.

HarveyWallbangers

9-7 - no playoffs. (With Favre I would havre said 11-5).

With Favre, I would switch week 1 and week 4 to a win, and I would switch week 15 (or the 15th game) to a loss. So, I would have predicted 10-6. With or without Favre, it would be tough to beat Dallas, Indianapolis, at New Orleans, at Seattle, and at Jacksonville.

Even thought my gut tells me it'l be even worse, I'll predict with a little confidence..

mission
08-26-2008, 03:54 AM
Im gonna say 10-6 but I think a lot of that hinges on the first game. If we get smoked by the Vikings somehow, Brett plays well, and the media pressure is thick post-week 1, it could be an 8-8 kinda season with a late rebound run.

If we go out and play well, Rodgers does what he's supposed to do and we play ball-control offense, we'll be able to ride some youthful confidence and surprise a couple of people and probably steal one of those Cowboys/Colts games on fluke and be looking good...

The playoffs are a tough call for me... it's not that I'm scared to put my word out there cuz that's whatever, but I really just don't know ... this is kind of one of those seasons. You're always in contention with Brett so saying Super Bowl was never ultra crazy but we don't know enough about Rodgers in pressure situations to make the call. I think eventually, yes; this season ... ? Probably not.

I'm keeping a positive outlook though. This is our team, Im supporting them, and I'm ready for the new Pack!! ... take it or leave it!

The Leaper
08-26-2008, 08:14 AM
Put me down officially for 8-8.

I'm just not seeing many positive signs coming out of training camp right now...which isn't a good sign when you consider how difficult the first half of the schedule is. Our interior OL is a mess. Our starting RB has yet to play a single snap in preseason. Our veteran WR has shown frustration openly in the media. Our backup QBs aren't close to being ready for action. Our DL can't put any pressure on the QB. No rookies have stepped up and made a name for themselves...and many really have done next to nothing.

I think the team will be better by December...but it might not make any difference in terms of success in 2008. By "moving on", the Packers have chosen to take a step back now in order to hopefully take two steps forward in the future.

That's what everyone said about the schedule last year. We got the AFC West and the NFC East and we went 7-1 with Oakland the only gimme game.

We still get 6 games in the NFC North which should help big time. 9-7 could easily win the division.

A whole lot of negativity going on here! Irrational negativity!

I predicted 11-5 or 12-4 last season. What I ask now is simply, WHY would they finish worse than the 13-3 of last year? Rodgers conpared to Favre? I doubt it. Favre lost a couple of games last year and got bailed out a couple of other times. Rodgers won't do that. Favre also won a couple of others that Rodgers might not be up to the individual performance on.

I'll go with 13-3, although going down the schedule game by game, I really don't see any sure thing losses. Cowboys maybe--they're good enough, but at our place with the revenge factor, probably not. Jacksonville at their place? Maybe, but I think they are an overrated team. Indy? One of the NFL's very best, but a home game for us. Minnesota? No way we lose that first game at home, and as somebody said, by the time we go to their place, the Packers will be a better team than early on. For no obvious reason, I have a bad feeling about Tennessee at their place. Vince Young is scary good, although very inconsistent. The Bears in the 15th game--which very well might be meaningless--is also a possible loss. None of those, however, are better than 50/50 prospects for losses.

I wouldn't read too much into a knee jerk reaction. As frustrated as he seemed after the SF game, he was incredibly confident after the Denver game when he did his post game interview. It all depends on the game. If you play well individually and as a team and get a win then you are going to sound more confident when interviewed after the game. If you play poorly as an individual and as a team and take a loss, then you are going to be frustrated. I don't see either as a long term prediction, merely a reaction to the game they just played.

Wow so many variables...We had the ironman for years, but go with Arod who will be pretty decent, but this is my list IF he's healthy (otherwise 6-10 without him)....

Predict the Packers 2008 record - game by game:

Minnesota Vikings - WIN
@ Detroit Lions - WIN
Dallas Cowboys - LOSS
@ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - LOSS
Atlanta Falcons - WIN
@ Seattle Seahawks - LOSS
Indianapolis Colts - LOSS
@ Tennessee Titans - LOSS
@ Minnesota Vikings - LOSS
Chicago Bears - WIN
@ New Orleans Saints - WIN
Carolina Panthers - WIN
Houston Texans - WIN
@ Jacksonville Jaguars LOSS
@ Chicago Bears - WIN
Detroit Lions - WIN

Wow...didn't really look at that tough schedule till now, so 9-7 I guess, but there will be surprises. On average over the past 5 years 5 teams who MISSED the playoffs the previous years, made the playoffs, thus, some teams WE thought would be good/bad reverse trends..Hopefully not ours. Regardless of the teams, my true prediction is 10-6 coming on strong to do some damage playoff time IF Arod is healthy.....Regardless...it's fun to look at these a year later, who THOUGHT the Pack would be 13-3 last year?

Very acute! Packers are not there yet. This is the tell tale season; where are we headed? Injuries have a say but injuries can't hide obvious talent. Even a mediocre record could be "good news" if upside is there. NFL is a brutal 16 games season; U better be ready in september or miss the playoff train. Stats don't lie but one year records can.

Minnesota Vikings: Everyone's sexy sleeper pick out of the NFC, the Vikes are the preseason favorites in the NFC North. Too much hype. What's a non-Vikings, non-Bears, non-Lions postseason mean? The Aaron Rodgers-led Packers are winning the NFC North. Sorry, Vikes fans.

Wow, they must think Jared Allen is worth 5 wins

I don't know why everyone always hypes the Vikings so much..8-8 last year, and they've only had 2 winning seasons since 2001 (and both of those were 9-7 seasons)..No quarterback, no receivers, no pass defense..What are all the "experts" seeing that I'm not?

Their win prediction for the Pack is too low, by the way..IMO they're winning 11-13 games this year..

Vikings were 8-4 with Jackson started. He didnt win pretty, but he did win. They got a decent receiver and Rice is a year older. If Jackson plays well they will be tough. If they had a TE they would be even better, but Shiancoe and Kleinsasser aren't exactly scaring anyone. I'd say they put up 10 wins. They have the same schedule we do essentially so we'll see.

Minnesota Vikings - LOSS ---Too much AP and the Vikes D will scare make Rodgers piss himself
@ Detroit Lions - LOSS --- If Detroit can get the running game going its a win. If not that pass happy O will lose to the Pack.
Dallas Cowboys - LOSS -- T.O. Vs the Pack secondary is toast!
@ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - WIN --- I am just not sure if Tampa can put it together against the Pack. QB play may be too suspect for their suspect D to overcome.
Atlanta Falcons - WIN --- QB play too inexperienced against vet DB's on Packers
@ Seattle Seahawks - WIN --- Seattle haven't shown anything in the past two years and I don't see any off season moves that will prove otherwise now.
Indianapolis Colts - LOSS -- Pack pass rush is too nonexistent to get anything going against the Colts. Peyton will eat them alive!
@ Tennessee Titans - LOSS --- Young will feast on the LB's questionable reading of plays.
@ Minnesota Vikings - LOSS --- It was bad enough on opening day, but on turf this defense is really too fast for Rodgers(if he is even still playing at this point)
Chicago Bears - LOSS --- By this time Chicago will have had a solid cohesive unit in the O-line. #1 draft pick Williams will be back on the field at left tackle and help to protect Orton, who will pick you apart if given time.
@ New Orleans Saints - LOSS --- I think N.O. will fall from whatever grace they thought they had at this point in the season. But truly this game can go either way with Bush on their team.
Carolina Panthers - WIN -- Easy win for Packers, no matter who is the QB at the time.
Houston Texans - WIN -- Back to back Packer wins give them optimism towards the end of a season that will regret not allowing Brett to come back.
@ Jacksonville Jaguars LOSS -- Jags will need this win for the playoff race and will trounce the Packers
@ Chicago Bears - LOSS -- Bears defense bounced back this season from all the injuries to the starters last year and look towards the playoffs to many preseason prediction surprises.
Detroit Lions - WIN -- Packers look to be a spoiler just because they had a crappy season and want to take someone down with them..lol.

I was in the car and tuning in a few Milwaukee stations yesterday before the game. Most of those guys were like this thread-DOOM and FUCKING GLOOM.

What is with all the pessimism? Is Brett Favre worth 5,6,7 games?? I dont recall one game he won last year. Maybe he did. What have we lost? Is Aaron Rodgers Cade McNown? I dont think so. The national guys pregame almost universally picked the Pack to win the game last night. What is it? Is it cool to get down on your team? Does it make you seem like you know more than the next guy? How can you say this team will loose 5-6more games than they did last year?

Baffling.

A very optimistic 9-7 record. Injuries have me worried plus DL/OL looks thin. A lot of high scoring games and blow outs both wins and losses.

6-10, yikes. I'll take my medicine if they're better, but they have a monster schedule, a hurt DL, and a first-year qb.

Could be....

I said 9-7 last year.

To keep with the mojo I'll say 9-7, though I think 10-6 is more likely.

If anything let's us down this year it'll be the defense, not Aaron.

True, True

Kinda Optomistic weren't ya?

Arod, what a game changer!

SI's projected standings -

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/specials/preview/2008/08/26/main/index.html?eref=T1

Minnesota Vikings 13-3
Green Bay Packers 9-7
Detroit Lions 7-9
Chicago Bears 6-10

Shows what SI knows.

Packers 5-11

Well thats a homer version if I've ever seen one.

Ya, he was way off!

rt! packers are a GREAT team imho. not sure why so much pessimism around here. WEIRD

Ya, weird!

I'm going to revise my doom and gloom 6-10 to 8-8.

homer. no way are they gonna be average.

No Way?

Baffling.

Still Baffled Genius?

Merry X-mas :whist:

 to be fair, i was almost totally wrong about the teams they would win and lose against. Shows what I know.

Does anyone honestly think that the Packers will have anything but a winning record next season? This last season can be chalked up to growing pains, life after Favre, whatever. Next season, some of these young guys are going to step up into leadership roles and its going to be a whole different team because of it. (Thats my 2009 prediction, at least until I see what direction Thompson takes the team in the off season. 8-) )
