Hey, I'm on my lunch break at work, didn't see a game thread started, so let's get it rolling. Obviously the most uneventful of all 4 preseason games.

I think we need to see more out of our d-line plus better tackling. Like to see Grant get some extra touches to get up to speed for next week, but for safety's sake, don't think that's to likely.

I don't know, this is the game in which the backups will ultimately win or lose their spot on the roster. Our only hope to win this game is if our backups play their hearts out, so I'm rooting for them.

I'm expecting big games out of Lumpkin, Taj Smith (he's the guy I want to earn that 6th WR spot), Rouse and Blackmon. Also, Jordy needs to score some points today.

And we'll finally get to see just how rusty Grant is after being out of team practice all summer. A lot of our offense will depend on his skills so we better hope that he'll hold up.

The keys to this game are just stay healthy and figure out who the best 53 are. If we do that then I really don't care whether we win or lose this one.

You're right on boiga. The guy's on the bubble are looking at this game as make or break. Lumpkin, Rouse and Bush in particular, IMO. Maybe a guy like Montgommery too, if Thompson is breathing down his neck.

I'm also looking forward to some carries by Grant, and seeing Jolly in there a bit.

There's no way that Rouse is on the bubble, he's on the team. Collins and Bigby are dinged and there's reason to believe that Rouse might actually be better than one of the two. Rouse is just the #1 backup safety, there's nobody else that's even close to him in that role.

Also, does anybody have a stream for those of us without NFLN who aren't living in Wisconsin or Tennessee?

I agree that he's not on the bubble, but if he plays hard enough he might earn that starting spot tonight. If Bigby or Collins miss 1 or 2 games from their injuries and Rouse is lights out, they might not have a spot open for them when they come back.

He's got as much reason to prove his worth as anyone.

Wow, what a dead gameday thread. I can see why, these last preseason agmes are glorified scrimages, although if I heard correctly the Titans are playing their starters for an entire half. In an hour the vikings are playing and they indicated the starters wouldn't play at all.

Will do. Actually been watching Battlestar Galactica, the original series lately. Quite enjoying it. I can't believe it only ran for one season originally!

Also reading The Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare. More teen targeted, but I'm enjoying it.

Yea, agree completely it means nothing for a fan. Moreso for Pack fans but at least you can evaluate scrubs against #1's and forget the score. Backups vs backups across the board doesn't mean shit. Man, I still say both the Vikies and the Packers games are pretty much scrimmages.

pbmax
08-28-2008, 07:22 PM
Actually, Harv, I think we can see who is ready to play at this level. Maybe not the best evaluation tool, but some guys look like they belong. I know that sounds like soft logic, but Nelson, Lee, Bishop and White all look like keepers even against the 1s.

They might be freelancing and levaing teammates hanging out to drive, but the speed of the game doesn't faze them.

We've played the Titans in preseason week 4 several years in a row.

2007 - Tennessee 30, Green Bay 14
2006 - Tennessee 35, Green Bay 21
2005 - Green Bay 21, Tennessee 17 (how did this happen? ARod had a big game)
2004 - Tennessee 27, Green Bay 7
2003 - Tennessee 27, Green Bay 3

Average score - Tennessee 27, Green Bay 13

The Titans really look like they want this one more than we do. I'm okay with this though. Guys like Lumpkin, Rouse, Lee and Nelson get to prove they have what it takes to play at this level. The guys we're cutting next week are stinking it up, but it's good for everyone else.

Except of course for Flynn and Brohm. They have almost no chance to salvage this game considering the lack of protection and limited receiving options.

Edit: in other words, I agree with pbmax.

I don't mind necessarily, but I don't like to see the Packers get whalloped--even in the most meaningless preseason game ever. Good evaluation for the defense, I guess. Not so much the offense--because we barely run any plays.

I was going to post this in a new thread as one of my predictions, but I'll first post here. After the initial cuts to 53, the Packers always have an unbalanced roster. I see them carrying 7 LBs after those cuts, and then they'll try to trade White, Bishop, or Hodge after that. Or, if they see a good prospect at another position (DT, for instance), they'll cut one after the initial cuts.

Winners
Hodge/Bishop: these two LB's played lights out tonight.
TWill: some good coverage
Havner: nice ST tackles.
Jennings and Rodgers!
Ryan: averaging over 50yds, I think

Losers
Swain: Fair caught a punt and there was no one near him. 1 bad drop, another that will probably be called a drop
Bush: a couple of good plays, but a bad penalty, and allowed a long 4th down completion
Brohm: looked like he didn't belong. Just got sacked as I'm typing this
Lumpkin: needed to do something to stick, but didn't. In him defense, he was running against Haynesworth and Van Der Bosch behind a 2nd string OL

Overall more losers than winners, but it was mostly our backups playing against their starters, so we looked bad. A lot of 3 and outs on O, making for a tired D.

Superfan,

Lee Evans for Chester Taylor?
:D

I'm not Superfan but Taylor. :D

You draft morons normally or was this an exception?

I'm not afraid to draft anyone. Hell, I just trade Steven Jackson and Antonio Gates for Adrian Peterson and Chris Cooley.
:D

I need a handcuff for your stallion--who may or may not be injury prone.

Indeed.

Ingle Martin might be better than Brohm right now. Ugh!

You have Peterson? Taylor is an absolute must and you will not be sorry.

I don't trust he'll be healthy all year. (Peterson)

Looking back with perfect hindsight....

If the Packers had drafted Brady Quinn instead of Harrell and then there would be no need to trade Corey Williams.

Just a thought.

Yes there would have because Williams wasn't going to play for the tender and he wasn't worth a top line DT contract.

So is the Packer game a Madtown standoff now?

Thanks to all for your winners/losers. Sounds like Williams will be a good nickel back, Bush might be cut (never liked him much anyway), and Brohm continues to be outplayed by Flynn.

That's going to be a huge fine against Ball on that hit to Brohm. Led with his helmet right into the side of his head. Of course no flag though.

Yes. Brohm is still in a different time zone from his O Line on the snap count.

No fair going after my Badger homerism. I need Taylor more in this league.

I love that punter. I don't love the snap.
