The Houston Texans have announced most of their final roster cuts, via a pre-announced event on their official web site.

In all, the Texans dropped 21 players on Friday. They’ve got one more move to make before 6:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday.

Gone are defensive end Rosevelt Colvin, running back Marcel Shipp, running back Darius Walker, tackle Torrin Tucker, cornerback Jamar Fletcher, quarterback Shane Boyd, quarterback Alex Brink, fullback John Abbate, linebacker Kevin Coley, safety Glenn Earl, center Greg Eslinger, receiver Darnell Jenkins, tight end Ryan Krause, defensive tackle Gabe Long, defensive tackle Anthony Maddox, receiver LeRon McCoy, linebacker Ben Moffitt, defensive end Jesse Nading, cornerback Derrick Roberson, receiver Mark Simmons, and cornerback Dexter Wynn.

UPDATE: Coach Gary Kubiak talked on Friday about the decision to release Colvin. “[V]ery difficult decision,” Kubiak said. “I think we all know why we brought him here. We brought him in to try to use him as a specialist-type of player, a pass rusher. We worked with him at the end position; we worked with him at the linebacker position. The bottom line, when it was all said and done, to have a player on your team to just play nickel or just have that type of special role, it had to be special. We had to sit there and weigh him against other players that could play special teams and do some other things for the football team. When it was all said and done, we went in the other direction. You know, he busted his tail and did everything he could do. We tried to move him around as best we could but when it was all said and done, the decision was made for a player that would do more things, especially from a standpoint of special teams.”

It's a bummer to see Fletcher cut; great player for the Badge and returned the game winning INT to bury Cade McNown and the Bruins when I was at the Rose Bowl.

He should have played his senior year though; was not ready.

How so? He wasn't going to get any better or taller by staying. He was the Thorpe winner...that is the best CB in the nation award. Sometimes i wonder about you Bretsky.

He was a first round pick. If you are going in the first round..you go.

don't wonder about my Tyrone; you should use my calm demeaner and ability to admit when I am wrong as an example to work on yourself

You are right; he was ready money wise.....those were my emotions speaking wanting to see him as a Badger another year

I see. I always want to see them stay, but i also understand that it is a business decision. If somebody had come at you with several millions in your junior year..regardless of your major..i'm fairly confident you woulda left as well.

"Bretsky is ready for the next challenge. I've made promise to my momma to get my degree."

Jamar will get picked up by somebody..i'm fairly confident of that. He will eventually play around 10 years...and if not..then there is always the arena league.

Looks like the free agent route isn't always the answer (see Ahman Green and R. Colvin). Maybe you're better off going with young guys like Des Bishop (6th round) and R. Grant (6th round).

And sometimes you free agents work out (R. Pickett, C. Woodson) and your draft picks flame out (C. Rodgers, I. Martin). It's a crapshoot, it's just more of a problem when you're wrong and it's expensive. Nobody cares when you blow a 7th round draft pick (B. Swain) after all.

You're using Ingle Martin as an example of draft pick "flaming out?"

Ingle Martin "flaming out?"

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Bengals cut Rudi Johnson - injured his hamstring recently and they don't want to deal with his $3.5M salary. He had some good years in '04-'05 (1400 yards) but has a lot of wear/tear. Johnson did put on like 15 pounds and stated he was 'reinvigorated'.

Wonder if he would work as a ZBS back - as he made his living running inside. If so, is he better than Morency or Herron (or whomever they keep), worth something more than vet min and interested in GB? Probably not.

Bears did release a long snapper (former Packer I think). Could be as good as our guy (Jansen) or hopefully better.
