The Packer roster continues to get younger, but while losing the substantial years of experience of Favre and Davis this offseason, the team as a whole is more experienced than the 2006 team and possesses virtually the same experience as last year's squad.

Here are the stats:

......................................2006........ ..2007..........2008
Rookies/1st Yr. Players.......20.............12................9
2nd-3rd Year.....................12.............23........ .......25
4th-5th Year.......................8...............7...... ..........8
6th-7th Year.......................5...............2...... ..........4
8th-9th Year.......................5...............5...... ..........4
10th-17th Year...................3...............4.......... ......3

Average Age....................26.1............25.7....... .....25.56
Average Yrs. of Exp. ........ 3.51............3.86............3.84

These stats do not take into account the birthdate of each player, just their age in years, so the actual averages are a bit higher across the board.

The Thompson Transformation: Only 9 players remain from the pre-Thompson era, 8 of whom are starters. 7 of those players Thompson has reworked and/or extended contracts for. The two players (Clifton and KGB) who still have their pre-Thompson contract are also the two players who have the highest cap numbers on the team this year.

A majority of the players on this team are guys who should just be entering their breakout years, or the prime of their careers. If TT has made the right decisions, the Packers should be very good for several years.

I admit my mistake on Morency. The packers for a 3rd back did the right thing and went with a guy who has upside. When you are getting down the roster a bit, always go with a guy who is coming on over a guy who never quite came on...youth rules.
