Interesting that there is a line right down Wisconsin dividing pop from soda. I grew up in a pop county, based on the map and based on what I know.

I have NEVER seen the logic in calling pop (or soda) "Coke" if in fact, it isn't Coke. In that respect, the map appears to be way off--according to my observation. Very very very few Texans call pop (or soda) "Coke", as the map would indicate.

I have, however, observed quite a few Texans saying "soda".

I grew up on the soda side. The map is very true. I grew up saying soda, then moved to Ohio when I was in HS and everyone made fun of me for saying soda instead of pop.

I could never quite figure out why the south calls pop "Coke," but it probably has a lot to do with Coca~Cola being headquartered in Atlanta.

My experience with Texas, Tex. When I asked for a Coke, the waiter said "what kind". :shock:

I've heard that story before, too, but with one exception, an old Texan about 15 years older than me, I've never heard of anybody that actually called it all Coke ....... and I've been here over 30 years now.

OT, but when I was stationed in Texas, Big Red dispensers were ubiquitous since Big Red's corporate HQ was in Waco at the time.

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, it was definitely pop. Here in Wausau, soda seems most common. I always say Coke when ordering a cola, and sometimes get asked, "Is Pepsi okay?"
