sorry to piss in punch bowl, but how many people really have been thrown out of their homes? I think the percentage of mortgages in default is like 5%. If you lose your house, you go rent somewhere. Often it is the bank that gets stuck with most of the loss, the homeowner loses their credit rating and some equity, but moves on.

disclaimer: i don't know what I'm talking about, just wondering out loud.

5%? Try .5%--1 out of 200.

And that's only defaults. Many of those don't get foreclosed.

Spec home built through mortgage fraud. I don't know if they had billboards down in TX proclaiming "Use Your Good Credit To Invest In Real Estate". Unscrupulous builders and mortgage companies built a lot of spec homes that way in UT. Entire neighborhoods in some cases, with only a few of the homes occupied.

I don't recall any of that here. It's been 25 or so years since I had good credit anyway.
