He still isn't on the field 100% of the time, he seemed to disappear in a portion of yesterdays game... He was doing extremely well last year in coverage/tackling... What the hell is going on :?:

hes just not that good..

probably true. Or at least Chillar is just as good, in his own way.

ya, I think Chillar's strength is dominating that TE in the passing game.. something Hawk is brutal at...

hawk is brutal at covering TE's? I've seen him make some athletic plays in pass defense.

Chillar is great covering the TE. Too bad he's not so good at other phases of LB'ing play. I suppose we can put Chillar and Hawk in there--because Barnett makes the defensive calls.

I think you have to actually watch the game before you get to say that a player is "not that good".

I think "brutal" is a bit harsh for characterizing Hawk in pass coverage, maybe not for Poppinga!

On the other hand, Hawk is better against the run than Chillar. If we could blend the two into one player, he would be pretty decent.

Hawk started the year wrong, with the chest injury and all, followed by the groin/hamstring. Its starting to look like a year that will never really get of the ground for him, a year he will just have to battle through. Kind of like Jenkins in 2007.

What! That's an outrage. You mean some sort of knowledge would be helpful to base an opinion on. I don't like that all. What would the internet be without baseless and uninformed opinions?

I think you need to include Barnett in this conversation..

He's not playing all the well either..

Maybe move Hawk to the middle, and let Barnett & Chillar/Popp play the "outside" of the defense.

Are they both not playing as well as in 2007 because the D-line is not either?
Both seemed on the verge of becoming top level players. Both have seemed to regress a little.

Maybe 2007 was as good as either will be? I am beginning to believe that for Barnett. Hawk I want to see start a year healthy and practiced up before being too critical.

It is the D line. No LB is good when an O lineman puts a hat on them. They are build to take on the FB and thats it.

According to ESPNs end of the year metrics of the season, AJ Hawk was the best linebacker in the league in coverage last season.

He's hurt. It's very apparent to me.

He had a chest muscle strain early which could still be bothering him and then a groin pull.

If he has trouble extending his arms and legs it is tough to play, let alone play well.
